When Vikram, a resolute police officer, returns to his hometown, he’s drawn into a web of personal grief and an eerie murder investigation. There were many characters in Mandala Murders who, intentionally or unintentionally, got involved in whatever was happening in the Charandaspur village. There were a few who pulled the strings and were the masterminds of the entire operation. There were a few who became victims, and then there were some who were adamant about finding out the truth behind the murders. So let’s get to know these characters and find out what happened to them in Season 1.

What Happens in This Episode?

In this episode, we flashback to twenty-five years back when Jimmy was in Ladakh. He calls home, and his son receives the call; as he speaks on, his son interrupts to say that his mother had passed away. Jimmy has not been a present father, but years later when Kaivalya turned up with Noor at his door after Zulfi and his wife’s death, he asked him to be a good grandfather.

If we go by the theory that nothing is random in Mandala Murders, then we’ve got to say that Kavita Bharadwaj—Ananya’s sister and Vikram’s fiancée—is an integral part of this tale, despite being in a coma. Episode 4 finally shows us who she was and what really happened to her in detail, and I don’t think the show would have done that had she just been a regular ‘almost dead’ fiancée character. Apart from that, we get to know about the other symbols; the doomed romance between Ananya and Vikram is finally confirmed, and there’s a murder too, a rather visceral one. Let us discuss.

Quite often web series tend to slow down by their third episode, after establishing the main story and context in the first two. But that’s not the case with Netflix’s Mandala Murders. The third episode is as jam-packed as the first two and gives zero respite to our characters. The story moves forward at breakneck speed, with the introduction of Raghubir Yadav’s Shastri ji adding another layer to the mystery. Let us take a closer look.

First came the voyeur’s body, then came the hands of the Shumbh Nishumbh, the Shaunak’s head, and the princess’ face. Ancient scriptures of astronomy and related texts are found in the curio shop, and Jimmy Khan’s predictions have been able to rightly foretell the two murders. Directed by Gopi Puthran and Manan Rawat, I have to say that Mandala Murders is not a very convincing watch, especially when it comes to the sci-fi aspects of the narrative. With the budget they had, and the kind of prolific star cast they could afford, I believe they could have done a much better job. The problem with Mandala Murders was that, at times, the narrative seemed pretentious, and the impact that it could have had was diluted by certain creative choices the creators made. Yes, the premise had tons of potential, but it was totally wasted because of the lack of authenticity backed by strong writing. Long gone are the days when you could have fooled the audience with cheap gimmicks. I think that they had all the opportunity to create an impactful and entertaining series that was unique in its own way, but certain mediocre creative choices...

Have you ever appreciated someone way too much just because they dared to be different? Well, this entire piece will be that appreciation post because in a world where we are celebrating anything that is above average (Iykyk), we get a web series on a spicy Friday afternoon, when one is in all spirit to dive into the weekend mode but Mandala Murders arrive to play with that mood but leaving you with a satisfied session of binge!

The web series is dark with a gritty premise and promises psychological depth. And in all probability, it will be your next binge-watch obsession.

Alright, the Yantra works. It may have failed Vasudha back in 2000, but it did work for Leela seven years ago, which would be 2018. That’s the mother of Sujay and Vijay, by the way, whom we see seeking help from a mysterious, very guru-like woman in this episode. We don’t see this woman’s face, so we can’t know for sure if this is Vasudha. Alright, let’s head into Mandala Murders episode 2.

Science fiction, horror, fantasy, and thriller—all are blended together into one pulpy mash in Netflix’s latest Indian offering, Mandala Murders. The Yrf-produced series has Vaani Kapoor (making her Ott debut) in the lead, along with Vaibhav Raj Gupta (whom you know from Gullak) and Surveen Chawla. Kapoor doesn’t have much screentime in the first episode, where Gupta and Chawla do most of the heavy lifting. A whole lot of things unfold in about fifty minutes of runtime, and you might have difficulty keeping track of all of it. Hopefully, this article helps.

Netflix has unveiled new Indian originals today for 2025, after releasing teasers of previously-announced projects over the last few weeks.

New tentpole projects include Aryan Khan’s Bollywood-themed series The Ba***ds of Bollywood (The Bads of Bollywood) as well as Akka, written and directed by Dharmaraj Shetty under Yrf Entertainment.

The Ba***ds of Bollywood tells the story of an ambitious outsider and his friends as they navigate the larger-than-life yet uncertain world of Bollywood.

Akka is set in the 1980s matriarchal society of a fictional city of Pernuru, South India, and will star Keerty Suresh, Radhika Apte and Tanvi Azmi.

Pakistan superstar Fawad Khan and Bollywood star Vaani Kapoor have started shooting romantic comedy “Abir Gulaal” at locations in and around London.

The film is directed by Aarti S. Bagdi (“Chalti Rahe Zindagi”) and produced by Indian Stories, A Richer Lens and Aarjay Pictures. Producers include Vivek B. Agrawal, Avantika Hari and Rakesh Sippy. It will be shot in the U.K. over October and November.

Bagdi said: “The film explores the journey of two individuals who unintentionally help each other heal, with love blossoming as an unexpected consequence.”

The show’s wider appeal was evident as it also secured a spot in the Top 3 on Netflix’s Global Top Shows, holding its ground for several months.

Yrf Entertainment’s first movie collaboration with Netflix, “Maharaj,” also made its mark. The Siddharth P. Malhotra-directed period piece, released on June 21 this year, quickly ascended to the second position on Netflix’s non-English film category top ten list.

Rising Indian star, Vaani Kapoor will headline coming-of-age Bollywood drama-comedy “Badtameez Gill,” where she plays the titular character.

Aparshakti Khurrana (Prime Video series “Jubilee”) plays Kapoor’s character’s brother in the film and veteran Paresh Rawal (Busan title “The Storyteller”), her father. The film, which is set across Bareilly, northern India, and London, is being directed by Navjot Gulati, whose writing credits include “Running Shaadi,” “Ginny Weds Sunny” with “Jai Mummy Di” and the upcoming “Pooja Meri Jaan” among his directing credits.
