This film screened on July 2nd, 2025 for the Chicago Film Festival Summer Screening, at the Museum. The 270+ audience was surveyed afterwards, where it received a 9.2/10 score. Earlier a 100+ New York audience was surveyed for an 8.7/10 and 100% saying "yes" they would recommend to others.
The film explores themes of life and death and how humans seek meaning from a world that appears to have none. It's about relationships of all kinds - friends, lovers, family, loss, gain and hope. At 110 minutes the film moves very fast and is often described as an emotional rollercoaster with genuine laugh-out-loud moments throughout - even during the moving of scenes.

An amazingly writen and directed film that deals with aspects of life in such an interesting and creative way. I was not expecting this movie to be this great, I will definetly be watching it again! The main lead is just superb in her role, some of the best acting I've ever seen! And I watch alot of movies! Anyway, it's fabulous so go and see it, you won't be disappointed, one of the best movies of this year.
Kangaroo Island is a striking film that blends breathtaking landscapes with an intimate, human story. Set against the island's rugged beauty, the movie explores love, loss, and resilience in a way that feels both grounded and poetic. The performances are heartfelt without tipping into melodrama, and the cinematography makes the island itself feel like a central character.
At times the pacing lingers, but the quiet moments only heighten the emotional impact. By the final act, you're left with a deep sense of connection-to the place, the people, and the themes of survival and hope. A visually stunning and emotionally rich film that lingers long after the credits roll.

I'm not going to write what every one else has written because it's all true and my saying it, went improve it!
I couldn't give a 10 because I did not like the final scene.... the credits rolled too suddenly. Another panning of the spectacular scenery while the audience contemplated what just happened would have been my preference.

I absolutely loved this film. The story and acting were both excellent. I really loved the chemistry between Rebecca Breeds and Erik Thomson. It was filmed on Kangaroo Island in South Australia and I am embarrassed to say I have never been there even though I live in the state. I really need to rectify that. Until that time I can just see this beautiful film again.

- Crazy creditsAccording to Madeleine Swan in her review at 'ScreenHub Australia', "...look out for the credits and particularly one for the local general store that appears in the film - it's clearly a contractual arrangement but a funny one at that."
