The reality of the deal between Yuko and Watanuki is settling in, the young man slaving over a hot stove in exchange for freedom from his haunting visions. Nobody said it was going to be easy! The fickle finger of fate beckons a new customer into the witch's curious shop. Through a haze of lies, good and bad luck alike are proven to be the perception of the individual. Free will is everything in this world, and there is always a price to pay for deception.

The tasks given Watanuki are being pulled from an ever expanding queue, and this night brings something rather more intense than refilling a sake glass. Watanuki has been partnered with his rival Domeki, the boys charged with investigating a school wrapped in dark chaos. It seems when divining dilettantes reach into the realm of the supernatural, sometimes they find things that don???t want to let go. There is always a price to pay for playing with the unknown.

Yuko senses the yearning in Watanuki's heart, her servant smitten with a young girl from school. Now the witch will test the bounds of his love, seeking an audience with a fortune teller. Charlatans and soothsayers inhabit the streets, and to be certain of Watanuki's fate, Yuko seeks out her most trusted resource. Relationship advice may be hard to glean, but good news is delivered across the planes of existence. There is always a price to pay for advice from beyond.

Watanuki is a demon magnet even on his very best of days. But when the full moon rises on Friday the 13th, extra precautions must be taken. Night time walks don't always bring terror, though. Following his nose, Watanuki meets some magical furry friends of Yuko's, their culinary offerings legendary. While the food is good, their lessons and insight are invaluable... And timely considering the calendar date! No matter how annoying some charms may be, there is always a price to pay for good luck.

It's the rainy season and she who controls the precipitation is looking for Watanuki. An Ame-warashi, a creature with a higher existence than a demon, tasks the haunted helper with a mission... A hydrangea plant blooms and flowers out of control, the pattern of growth not of nature's usual design. A little girl is trapped in some strange land between lands, amongst the leaves and soaked in tears. While the loneliness of forever unites all living things, there is always a price to pay for these eternal connections.
