    Very entertaining and funny

This movie is both entertaining and funny. The plot switches back and forth from a husband and wife team writing a murder mystery to a set of parallel events that occur in their lives. Similar to movies in the 1930s, the pace of events quickens throughout the movie.

Performances by the actors are excellent. In particular, the two juvenile actors were quite strong. On the negative, the exposition of the plot at the beginning is a little quick and could have used a bit more structure to establish the convention being employed. Over time, the use of malaprops by one of the central characters, while very clever, becomes a little tedious and could have used some judicious editing.

The cinematography and production values are excellent and the movie is well crafted. On the whole, the movie is a terrific first effort and is highly recommended.

    Quirky, fun and completely original.

One of the least formulaic movies in memory. Writer's Cramp is a quirky, tongue-in-cheek film about unrealistic expectations, wild hallucinations and larger than life characters - all orbiting the wonderfully nutty world of Amy Prescott, as she and husband Scooter try desperately to sell their impossibly bad screenplays to anybody and everybody. The film is chock full of zany costumes, malapropisms and murder most foul. A rare "smart comedy" that will appeal to both kids and adults for entirely different reasons. A first effort by Darva D. Campbell, a filmmaker who shows tremendous promise. Particularly strong performances by Christy Crowley (as Amy), Raphael Barker (Short Bus) and veteran character actors Annie-Scott Rogers, Rana Rines and Petyer Kepler. Worth a look for those needing a solid laugh.
