This may not be everyone's cup of tea but whoever loved "Before Sunrise" will enjoy it immensely. Though it's pretty surprising to see no review here despite being released in 2024. I'm glad to be the first one.
There r so many things to gush bout this movie. The first is of course the cast. Both leading protagonists have been nothing short of phenomenal, especially after enduring so much American fakeness, Marie & Jérémie were like breath of fresh air. The unlikely friendship they started and continued throughout the movie wouldn't have been believable if they were not so natural. Their chemistry was off the chart, and most importantly they balanced each other so well.
Then the plot. Striking an unusual friendship with a woman who loves to visit crime sites and then later on tagging along visiting crime sites together and trying to give their own conclusions, taking a road trip, trying to find and understand themselves, what's not to love.
Dialogues, they were so well written and executed perfectly by the actors. What intrigued me so much, there wasn't any loud argument, everything solved calmly without raising voices !!! Absolutely loved that aspect.
Screenplay, the smooth transitions of scenes and then including the photographs/newspaper cuts of the crime scenes in between were chef's kiss. I wasn't bored for a moment.
Direction and Cinematography, very artistic for a movie like this and again i simply adored each and every frame. There's a simple scene, Paul and Paulette playing with their hands, but it was so beautifully shot !!! The colour grading, amazing. The framing, amazing. The direction, amazing.
Last but not the least, the background music and the soundtracks. The subtle way music was used throughout the movie is applaudable. It's not loud but it's there and elevates the whole scene in a beautiful way.
Maybe 8-9 is apt score for this movie but the series of garbage i endured these past days, i don't mind giving Paul & Paulette a solid 10 just because they made me happy.
