Annabelle Wallis – whose credits include Annabelle, Malignant, and The Mummy – has signed on to star in the sci-fi thriller Mercy alongside previously announced cast members Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson, Variety reports. Details on the role Wallis will be playing have not been revealed, and the same can be said about Ferguson’s character.

Mercy reunites Pratt with his Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov to tell a story that is “set in the near future when capital crime has increased” and follows “a detective (Pratt] who is accused of a violent crime and forced to prove his innocence.” The screenplay was written by Marco Van Belle (Arthur & Merlin).

Coming our way from Amazon MGM Studios, the film is expected to go into production this spring and is already scheduled to receive a worldwide theatrical release on August 15, 2025.

Annabelle Wallis is set to join Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming sci-fi thriller “Mercy,” starring opposite Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson.

The movie, directed by Timur Bekmambetov (“Wanted”) from a script penned by penned by Marco van Belle (“Arthur & Merlin”) is set in the near future “when capital crime has increased.” It “follows a detective (Pratt) who is accused of a violent crime and forced to prove his innocence.” Details of Wallis’ role are being kept under wraps.

Wallis is well known for her role on the critically acclaimed BBC/Netflix series “Peaky Blinders.” She most recently starred in James Wan’s “Malignant” for New Line/Warner Bros, in addition to “Silent Night” opposite Keira Knightley. Her credits also include Universal’s “The Mummy” opposite Tom Cruise, “Annabelle,” “King Arthur,” “Come and Find Me,” “Tag” and “The Brothers Grimsby”; plus she starred in Showtime’s “The Loudest Voice” and the independent film “The Silencing.

Earlier this year, Max announced it would be housing over 200 episodes of AMC Networks’ television at no additional cost to subscribers beginning in September.

February ushers in a new slate of movies and TV shows making their way to HBO and HBO Max, from a slew of James Bond movies to the recently released Olivia Colman-led “Empire of Light” to, yes, the Puppy Bowl.

Despite HBO Max pulling a number of originals from its roster over the past several months, HBO Max originals premiering on the platform this month include a Dionne Warwick documentary, an adult European animated series titled “Poor Devil” and “Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine’s Day Special” based on the popular animated series.

Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine’s Day Special premieres on Feb. 9 and finds Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy celebrating their first Valentine’s Day together. Consider this a fun little aperitif for the fast approaching Harley Quinn season 3 – which will feature none other than freshly-installed DC czar James Gunn. Other HBO Max original series this month include another C.B. Strike special on Feb. 6 and Spanish-language animated comedy Poor Devil a.k.a. Pobre Diablo on Feb. 17.

The selection of titles for HBO Max in February 2023 will include the continuation of hit TV shows, premieres of holiday specials, and Oscar nominees. AMC has unveiled a slew of developments including scripted projects from Katie Couric, The Report’s Scott Z. Burns, Broad City’s Ilana Glazer and Owen and Stephen King.

The majority of the projects are being developed for its networks but there are also projects set up for AMC Studios to sell to third party broadcasters and digital platforms.

The well-stocked development pipeline was announced at the Winter TCA Press Tour.

AMC Networks Entertainment Group is developing More As This Story Develops from Katie Couric and Wendy Walker, National Anthem from Scott Z. Burns and Mark Johnson, an adaptation of Owen and Stephen King’s novel Sleeping Beauties, Bunny from Megan Mostyn Brown, Pantheon from Craig Silverstein, Nigeria 2099 from Ahmadu Garba and Silverbird from Scott Gold.

More As This Story Develops is inspired by the friendship between Couric and Walker, two young women begin their careers in broadcast news in the ‘80s.

Netflix announced its list of everything coming and going in September. New additions include “The Spy” series, starring Sacha Baron Cohen as an undercover agent in 1960s Syria, coming Sept. 6, and Ryan Murphy’s first Netflix series, “The Politician,” which stars Ben Platt as a wealthy student from Santa Barbara, California, who dreams of becoming president, coming Sept. 27.

Other Netflix originals to look forward to include a new stand-up comedy special from Bill Burr called “Bill Burr: Paper Tiger” coming Sept. 10; Season 2 of “Elite,” about a classmate’s death and a vanished student, coming Sept. 6; and “Evelyn,” a movie about “a man and his two siblings take an epic walk from Scotland to London to find peace and acceptance 12 years after their brother’s death by suicide,” coming Sept. 10.

Netflix has confirmed that 40 new original series, movies and specials will be debuting on the streaming service in September. Leading off lineup is the first season of “The Politician” from the Emmy-winning Ryan Murphy. This drama about an ambitious politico stars Tony champ Ben Platt and Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow. Among the other freshman series one of the most intriguing is “Criminals,” an anthology set in four police stations in the UK, France, Germany and Spain.

Two limited series tell true-life stories. “Unbelievable” chronicles the efforts of two detectives to discover the truth about an alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl. And “Spy” showcases Sacha Baron Cohen as Israeli Mossad agent Eli Cohen, who went undercover in 1960s Syria. Among the new films on offer is Zach Galifianakis’ satire “Between Two Ferns: The Movie.”

Labor Day is around the corner and following the start of the new month, Netflix will unveil a fresh slate of titles to binge. Revisit the terror in Ryan Murphy’s “American Horror Story: Apocalypse” or keep up with the adventures of Princess Bean in “Disenchantment Part Two.” Additionally, “Good Boys” fans can re-watch “Superbad,” which hits the streaming service Sept. 1.

Netflix seems to be preparing for Halloween early with a solid list of horror and thriller titles joining the service next month. Along with “American Psycho,” “The Last Exorcism” and Season 3 of MTV’s “Scream” starring Willa Fitzgerald and Kiana Ledé will be available in September as well as new series “Serial Killer With Piers Morgan.”

The Hammer Films Eis Fund will back film and TV projects.

UK financier Motion Picture Capital, the Reliance Entertainment Group subsidiary, has formed a partnership with iconic UK production company Hammer Films.

The two companies are teaming on a new film fund called The Hammer Films Eis Fund which will offer private investors the opportunity to invest in a slate of Hammer branded film and TV productions.

The new fund will sit alongside Motion Picture Capital’s existing Eis fund and will only be accessible through a financial adviser.

Iconic horror label Hammer, best known for gothic horror films of the 1950’s including The Curse of Frankenstein, The Mummy and Christopher Lee’s Dracula, made a splash in 2012 with UK horror The Woman In Black, starring Daniel Radcliffe, which became the highest-grossing British horror film on record, taking £21.3m in its home territory and going on to gross over $130m worldwide.

UK financier Motion Picture Capital to tackle story of UK rugby player.

Motion Picture Capital is to develop biopic Code Of Honour, a sports story based on the life of rugby player Ady Spencer.

The production company has hired upcoming screenwriter David Raymond to write the treatment for the film. Raymond most recently wrote the mini-series In Harm’s Way about Un peacekeepers, which is set to be produced by Brett Ratner’s RatPac Entertainment.

This new script will be based on the controversial events that saw Spencer banned from rugby union after he appeared for Cambridge University in the Varsity Match against Oxford University, despite having previously already played rugby league at professional level with the London Crusaders.

The film will be developed and produced by the CEO of Motion Picture Capital, Leon Clarance, whose credits include Come and Find Me (starring Aaron Paul) and Netflix series Sense8 which was co-created by the Wachowskis (The Matrix...

Come And Find Me endears in a very Charlie Countryman kind of way (if Shia’s flick was your thing), where love motivates a regular Joe to throw himself to the proverbial lions. Think Mr. And Mrs. Smith, except only the wife is an assassin, and the husband is nothing but urban camouflage (aka cover). Writer/Director Zack Whedon never loses the reality that his graphic-designing hero is in completely over his head, and makes a better thriller for it. It’s still very monotone and a bit predictable, but Whedon stays true to the foolish things love makes us do, from challenging mercenaries to investigating government conspiracies – even when you aren’t Jason Bourne.

Exclusive: Cabin In The Woods star joins supernatural thriller.

Cabin In The Woods and House Of Cards star Kristen Connolly is to topline supernatural thriller Slumber, which Goldcrest will be selling at the American Film Market (Afm) (Nov 4-11).

Shooting is due to start at the end of January 2016 on the feature debut of well-known commercials director Jonathan Hopkins with additional casting currently underway.

Slumber tells the story of Alice (Connolly), a rationally-minded sleep doctor, who is forced to abandon scientific reason when confronted by a family that being terrorised by a parasitic demon.

Slumber is written by Hopkins and 2013 Blood List screenwriter Richard Hobley. It will be produced by Mark Lane and James Harris of The Tea Shop & Film Company, who are also producing claustrophobic thriller 47 Meters Down for eOne and Dimension.

Executive producers are Nick Quested and Pascal Degove for Goldcrest Films.

Exclusive: UK sales outfit boards international rights to directorial debut of Zack Whedon.

Goldcrest Films has boarded international sales rights to the feature debut of writer-director Zack Whedon (Deadwood), Come And Find Me, starring Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) and Annabelle Wallis (Annabelle).

Currently shooting in Vancouver, Come and Find Me, which appeared on the 2012 Black List, follows the character of David (Paul) who must track down his missing girlfriend after he realizes she is not who she claimed to be.

Producers are Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Sinister) for Automatik Entertainment, Leon Clarance (Sense8) for Motion Picture Capital and Chris Ferguson for Oddfellows Entertainment.

Executive producers are Laure Vaysse and Jo Monk.

Goldcrest Films MD Pascal Degove will launch sales at Toronto. Wme will handle domestic sales.

Whatever they used to have over the Whedon family breakfasts back in the day, they should bottle it. Joss Whedon you know all about, Jed Whedon too has been producing Agents Of Shield and Dollhouse. And of course there's Zack Whedon too, who is set to direct the upcoming movie, Come And Find Me.

Zack Whedon has, as you likely know, already written for the likes of Deadwood, Fringe and Southland, and there was the small matter of Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. For his directorial debut, he's telling the story of a man who's hunting his missing ex-girlfriend, having discovered that she's not quite who he thought.

He was also forced to apologise to Breaking Bad fans after hinting on Twitter the show would be returning before revealing it was a prank.
