American actress Amber Midthunder has already amassed an impressive array of roles in film and television alike. At the young age of 27, she starred alongside Hollywood legends, including Liam Neeson (The Ice Road), Chris Pine (Hell or High Water), and Aubrey Plaza (Legion). Her newest film, Novocaine, stars Jack Quaid (The Boys) and is in theaters now, with a Rotten Tomatoes critic score of 79%. Another one of Midthunder's recent films premiered in 2022, featuring her in a starring role. However, due to its lack of a theatrical release, it never got the attention that it deserved.[p]Prey, which was released on Hulu, is a sci-fi horror film that features Midthunder alongside Dakota Beavers, Dane Diliegro, and Michelle Thrush. The film has an impressive Rotten Tomatoes critic score of 94% andis also an installment in the beloved Predator film franchise. However, the film does not rely heavily on the franchise as a...

Taylor Sheridan already had a reputation to keep and his own legacy to live up to when he transitioned from film to television. After the groundbreaking success of Sicario, the Oscar-winning merit of Hell or High Water, and his stunning directorial debut with Wind River, a $90 million series starring Kevin Costner was only going to set high expectations within the industry.

However, Yellowstone more than delivered on that front, not only becoming Paramount’s most profitable project ever but also rooting Costner as a leading male in Westerns once again, with the added bonus of a career renaissance. But as the series progressed, delivering one strong season after another (let’s not count Seasons 4 and 5), Sheridan’s writing grew bolder and naughtier by the minute. And Costner knew that better than anybody.

Oscar-winning actors, Hollywood royalty, film auteurs – everyone wants a piece of that signature Taylor Sheridan action that will turn them into an instant classic. The part-cowboy, part-filmmaker identity of Sheridan is so deeply rooted in his pop culture reputation that he embeds the lost art of Westerns into every project that he spearheads.

However, while most reputed actors and directors in the field get stale beyond a certain limit if they keep working in a single genre, Sheridan only gets better with time. His initial frontier trilogy – Sicario, Hell or High Water, and Wind River – was nothing short of extraordinary, and his work in television is the same.

Warner Bros. is developing an exciting new action thriller called F.A.S.T., also known as Untitled Taylor Sheridan. The film is written by Taylor Sheridan, the mastermind behind Yellowstone and Sicario, with Gavin O’Connor now also working on the script.
According to a report from Daniel Richtman’s Patreon, F.A.S.T. will follow an ex-Marine who takes on dangerous missions to survive. Struggling to make ends meet, he agrees to run illegal operations for the DEA. His job? Infiltrating the drug trade to help take down powerful dealers.
The film is expected to be full of intense action, moral dilemmas, and high-stakes drama—something Sheridan is known for. His past projects, including Wind River and Hell or High Water, have explored similar themes of law enforcement, crime, and survival in harsh conditions.

Film is so back. Shooting on Kodak film continues to be both a more popular choice among filmmakers and to gather more Oscar prestige. At this year’s Academy Awards Sean Baker’s Best Picture winner, “Anora,” was shot on 35mm by cinematographer Drew Daniels; Brady Corbet’s Best Cinematography winner, “The Brutalist,” was shot on 35mm VistaVision to great aplomb by Dp Lol Crawley; Walter Salles’ Best International Feature Film winner, “I’m Still Here,” was shot on both 35mm and S8mm by cinematographer Adrian Teijido; and the Best Live Action Short winner, “I’m Not a Robot,” was also shot on 35mm.
This year looks set to build on that success. There will be a cohort of prominent movies captured on film from some of the usual analog-loving directors: Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners,” Luca Guadagnino’s “After the Hunt,” Wes Anderson’s “The Phoenician Scheme,” Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Bugonia,” Josh Safdie’s “Marty Supreme,...

Taylor Sheridan & Denis Villeneuve's Oscar-Nominated Movie Becomes Netflix Global Hit 10 Years Later
Taylor Sheridan and Denis Villeneuve's Oscar-nominated movie has become a global Netflix hit a decade after its release. The Canadian director started his career with four French-language films, including Incendies, which earned an Academy Award nomination for Best International Feature. From there, Villeneuve transitioned into English-language movies with Prisoners and Enemy, but gained further recognition for his sci-fi films Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, Dune, and Dune: Part Two – which earned a total of 28 Oscar nominations and won 11.

Taylor Sheridan has a complete disrespect for one of my treasured possessions: downtime. In just seven years, Sheridan has created eight TV shows resulting in 164 episodes, the overwhelming majority of which he wrote entirely himself. Let that soak in for a moment. Here’s a quantitative but not qualitative comparison: Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul combined were shot over 14 years and total 125 episodes. That’s still a day-and-a-half of television short of Sheridan’s output.
And here’s the thing: All eight shows are hits, something that not even...

A film without a cast is, miraculously, still a film. However, a cast—even if it’s just one or two actors—has undoubtedly become an integral part of a film, and for good reason. Films offer a variety of adventures that can be both so relatable and not so relatable. It’s the faces on the screen who the audience attaches themselves to, whether it’s to deliver a humane message or thrilling escapism, these faces help bring the audience to the film’s home stretch. Hence, who these actors are is of much importance, and who better to assist a filmmaker’s decision-process than a casting director.

American Fiction director Cord Jefferson is set to follow up his 2023 Oscar-winner with a neo-Western: more here.
American Fiction – pictured – was one of 2023’s most critically adored films and ended up featuring in lots of awards conversations. Director Cord Jefferson has publicly mooted a couple of different genres for his next project, floating the possibility of an erotic thriller around a year ago but ultimately, it looks like he and his crew will be heading out west to shoot his next film.
Whether that actually means America’s geographical west, we don’t know but Jefferson’s next film certainly looks like it will be set in that part of the country, with Deadline (via World Of Reel) reporting that his next project is a ‘contemporary Western set in Arizona about two brothers searching for a third sibling.’

Before Taylor Sheridan dominated the streaming landscape with his riveting television series such as Yellowstone, Landman, and various other projects, the writer would be best known for several of his enthralling screenplays taken on by talented filmmakers. Perhaps the best-known film from Sheridan's body of written work is Sicario, which Denis Villeneuve directed. Before the acclaimed filmmaker helmed the adaptation of Frank Herbert's novel Dune, it was 2015's Sicario that would further establish Villeneuve as a powerhouse director with an eye for powerful storytelling. Now, the film will have a new streaming home on Netflix this March.
Sicario will be hitting the streaming platform on March 1st, allowing Netflix subscribers to check out one of the earlier mainstream films in Villeneuve's career. When it first aired in 2000, "Six Feet Under" was unknowingly part of the dawn of a golden age of television. Alongside early-aughts HBO hits like "The Wire" and "The Sopranos," the tragicomedy told the story of a family-run funeral home trying to make sense of life and death in the wake of the sudden loss of their father.
A revival has reportedly been in the works for some time, despite the fact that it would seemingly be in conflict with what is arguably the greatest series finale of a TV show ever. Still, the mere idea of a return to these loveable, complicated, and tragic characters makes us wonder what happened to the cast of "Six Feet Under?"

Before he was writing half the shows on Paramount+, Taylor Sheridan was an actor. The man behind shows like "Yellowstone" and "Tulsa King" and the scripts for films including "Sicario" and "Hell or High Water" cut his teeth with screen work, a pastime he occasionally returns to when he needs someone to play, say, a cool cowboy who's dating Bella Hadid.
Years before he became known as a Hollywood cowboy, I knew Sheridan as a mysterious man named Danny Boyd in the plucky teen detective show "Veronica Mars," and as the hate-worthy cop Deputy David Hale on FX's "Sons of Anarchy." Those may have been two of Sheridan's most high-profile TV roles, but they're far from his only acting credits. He's had bit parts going all the way back to "Walker, Texas Ranger" in 1995, and can be seen in one-off roles in shows like "CSI," "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman,...

Fargo and Alien: Earth showrunner Noah Hawley is set to partner with Chris Pine for the Texan thriller, Nowhere Fast.
Bursting onto the scene as the TV showrunner behind Fargo just over a decade ago, Noah Hawley has barely put a foot wrong since. Fargo, loosely inspired by the Coen Brothers’ 1996 film, spawned five acclaimed seasons, while Hawley also made a critically-admired take on the X-Men mythos with Legion.
Most recently, Hawley’s TV spin on the Alien universe lands later this year in the form of Alien: Earth. A new teaser recently dropped for that show, and we’re tremendously excited by the prospect of Hawley bringing his wit, originality and flair for thrilling narrative conceits to a series that could really benefit from some new ideas.

Chris Pine is planning to go Nowhere Fast with Fargo creator Noah Hawley. The movie star and FX's favorite television creator are teaming up for the latter's new crime thriller, a film about a small-town criminal in Texas who unwittingly kills the nephew of his boss. The movie is currently titled Nowhere Fast— as you may have guessed from the first line of this story — and sounds like exactly the sort of dark comedy of errors we've come to love and expect from Noah Hawley.
In a new, exclusive report from Variety, it was revealed that Pine would star in the film slated to be written and directed by Hawley, who is perhaps most well known for his work on Fargo, but also created the criminally under-appreciated Legion, as well as Hulu's forthcoming Alien franchise series, Alien: Earth. Somehow, unbelievably, it's been almost a decade since Chris Pine first — and last — flexed his neo-Western chops, putting in a powerhouse performance as Toby Howard in underappreciated, Texas based Taylor Sheridan oater Hell Or High Water. Taylor Sheridan has made a name for himself in the TV industry as the creator and writer of a plethora of hit shows like Yellowstone, its prequels 1883 and 1923, Special Ops: Lioness, Tulsa King, and the recent drama Landman starring Billy Bob Thornton as a Texas oil man (which even Stephen King is a fan of). Most readers recall the night of February 26, 2017, when Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty took to the stage at the 89th Academy Awards ceremony. That was the year "La La Land" was nominated for a whopping 14 Oscars, tying the nomination record of films like "Titanic" and "All About Eve." In the Best Picture category, it faced off against "Arrival," "Fences," "Hell or High Water," "Hacksaw Ridge," "Hidden Figures," "Lion," and "Manchester by the Sea." They were all defeated (most would argue rightly) by Barry Jenkins' subdued queer drama "Moonlight."
Of course, when Best Picture was announced, a mixup was revealed. Beatty and Dunaway were handed a backup envelope for Best Actress by mistake. Emma Stone had just won Best Actress for "La La Land," but the "spare" envelope was still backstage. When Beatty opened it in front of an audience of billions, he looked a little confused. We saw Taylor Sheridan’s peak writing in his movies and his most popular Western drama, Yellowstone. However, we unfortunately saw a slow descent in quality in Sheridan’s works. The Yellowstone finale was nowhere near as enjoyable as the first few seasons. Some fans have started to point out that even the initial seasons had some glaring problems that we conveniently ignored in his writing.

One of the major issues with Sheridan’s writing in Yellowstone in its earlier seasons was his addition of irrelevant plot points that took the story nowhere. These were either storylines with irrelevant character details in them or just plot points he had to abandon completely for the sake of budget.

He was also Oscar-nominated for Hell or High Water.
Before Sheridan hit it big in Hollywood and the TV industry, he was an actor and had a regular role in the show Sons of Anarchy. However, he quickly grew disillusioned and decided to quit the business before pivoting to become a screenwriter. While he never planned on it, he revealed that he tried to make it in Hollywood in a different way.

The western genre has been a staple of American cinema since almost it's inception, with themes of rugged individualism, the true moral ambiguity of the world, and the vast, untamed frontier where anything can happen for decades. Many iconic films from the genre—The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, High Noon, Stagecoach—remain part of the collective film consciousness. However, countless other westerns, though critically acclaimed or innovative in their own right, have slipped from the spotlight over the generations. These gems, whether due to being overshadowed by their more famous counterparts or simply relegated to obscurity by time, still offer the very best in Western stories, gripping performances, and distinct takes on the mythology of the American Frontier.

For a long time, Kevin Costner had commanded Hollywood’s new frontier of Western cinema, be it through the lens of classics like Wyatt Earp or period crime thrillers about 20th-century outlaws like The Highwaymen. The actor’s string of poor luck in Hollywood since the late 90s defined his fall from grace and his insistence on not doing a sequel prevented his rise back up again.

After spending nearly two decades simmering in relative obscurity, it was Taylor Sheridan’s 21st-century neo-Western epic, Yellowstone that turned Kevin Costner into a legacy maker. Not only was the actor breathing life and soul into the story but his presence turned Yellowstone into a modern classic.

Exclusive: Braden Aftergood has departed as partner at Sylvester Stallone’s Balboa Productions, sources tell Deadline. A replacement is expected to be named soon, I hear.
Stallone partnered with Aftergood in 2018 to launch Balboa Productions. The film and TV company, which initially had a multi-year pact with Starlight Culture Entertainment for feature development, has been under a first-look film and TV deal at Amazon MGM Studios since 2023.
Aftergood’s exit has come as a surprise to many as he has been actively working with Amazon on projects in development. Accounts as to why he has been let go vary. Some point to Aftergood’s work on a side movie project as a reason though I hear that film may have been carved out of his Balboa deal. Others claim that the partnership has run its course.
I hear Aftergood has retained an attorney, and his exit is being negotiated, including...

For the longest time, Taylor Sheridan was in a state of deep hibernation, scraping out a living as an actor when his real talents lay elsewhere. After 20 years of his acting career essentially made him feel creatively suffocated, Sheridan took to the page and began to weave together stories of profound value to the industry as well as the audience.

From Wind River to Yellowstone, there is very little that intimidates Taylor Sheridan. Despite having no schooling on that front nor any agent or coaching, the actor-turned-filmmaker quickly established himself as a celebrated, in-demand, and award-winning screenwriter. And it was Sicario that began it all.

Taylor Sheridan does not lack for chutzpah. The Academy Award-nominated screenwriter of "Hell or High Water" kicked his career into overdrive seven years ago when he launched the new-Western sensation "Yellowstone" on the Paramount Network. Since then, he's been a one-man television hit machine with "Yellowstone" spinoffs "1883" and "1923," as well as "Mayor of Kingstown," "Tulsa King," "Lioness" and "Landman." He is not a man to whom you say "no." I mean, you can say it, but you do so at your peril because the project you just shot down will likely wind up being a smash hit for a competitor.
Sheridan was just a year into building his "Yellowstone" empire when, being one of the busier bees in Hollywood, he hired himself out to rewrite the screenplay for an adaptation of Michael Koryta's thriller novel "Those Who Wish Me Dead." The tale of a reclusive smokejumper who finds herself...

The show Yellowstone might have ended last year but the conversation surrounding the show has only gotten louder. Fans are spotting errors and interesting tidbits on their rewatch that they missed the first time around. Not only did Yellowstone establish Taylor Sheridan as a household name, but also showed the world what the writer-director is capable of.
Sheridan has crafted a world so unique that it spawned connected universes and a spinoff with many people thinking there’s a thin thread connecting every world in Sheridan’s filmography. On the other hand, there’s something else Sheridan has become quite famous for – using the same actors for various roles.

Texas-born actors Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson reprised their True Detective roles in a video today as they urged the state Legislature to bring more Hollywood productions to the Lone Star State.
The four-minute clip, “True to Texas,” follows McConaughey and Harrelson down a desolate two-way road, and it feels reminiscent of their True Detective personas, Detectives Rust Cohle and Marty Hart, from the franchise’s first season. With Dennis Quaid handcuffed in the back seat, the trio make proposals to create Hollywood films, TV shows, music videos, and commercials on Texas soil.

The first season of True Detective was a landmark work of television for HBO, as the series would make a compelling argument for high-profile actors who have primarily worked on theatrical projects to dip their toes in the realm of network TV. Created and written by Nic Pizzolato and starring Matthew McConaughey & Woody Harrelson, many have called for another season of True Detective revolving around those characters, as future seasons ended up taking an anthology approach featuring other detectives. Now, fans have received the reunion they've been asking for, albeit in an unconventional way — a new commercial advocating for the Texas legislature to create more incentives for film productions.
The commercial, which you can view below, was written and directed by True Detective series creator Nic Pizzolato, with Harrelson and McConaughey cruising down a road in Texas, acting like their True Detective characters but addressing each other by their real names.

Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson reunited for a “True Detective”-themed ad written and directed by the show’s creator Nic Pizzolatto. True To Texas encourages the Texan legislature to increase film and TV production in the state through new incentives.
“You ever wonder if this industry of ours is just chasing its own tail?” Harrelson asks at the beginning of the clip. McConaughey then responds with a direct callback to his “True Detective” character Rust Cohle from the first season of the HBO series.
“Hollywood is a flat circle Woody. Round and round like a record with the sound off,” the actor says. “This industry is like somebody’s memory of an industry. The memory is fading. I am talking about a whole new hub for film and television. A renaissance. A rebirth.”

Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson have reunited for a “True Detective” moment in a new ad directed by series creator Nic Pizzolato.
In the video for True to Texas, McConaughey and Harrelson — who embody their “True Detective” characters Detectives Rust Cohle and Marty Hart, respectively — call for the Texas legislature to create new incentives for film and TV productions in the state. The ad also includes appearances by Dennis Quaid, Billy Bob Thornton and Renee Zellweger.
“Hollywood is a flat circle, Wood,” McConaughey says in the video. He later adds, “This industry is like somebody’s memory of an industry, and the memory’s fading. I’m talking about a whole new hub for film and television. A renaissance. A rebirth.”
“A small fraction of Texas budget surplus to turn this state into the new Hollywood,” Harrelson says.

There’s a saying that goes, “You can’t judge a book by its cover.” Yet, far too often, people look at the outward signs of a person’s beliefs, and, with one quick brushstroke, label an entire group of individuals. But what happens when someone dares to peel back the layers and show the gritty truth beneath?
Taylor Sheridan, the unapologetic Oscar-nominated screenwriter behind Hell or High Water, has boldly taken on this very challenge, all while exposing a silent undercurrent of rural America that often goes unnoticed—or worse, misjudged.

Through his film, Sheridan highlights the real struggles of people in small towns, who face economic hardship and neglect, and who feel their voices are ignored by mainstream elites. He criticizes how pundits like Bill Maher lump entire regions together, assigning political beliefs to people based on assumptions.

Taylor Sheridan has done Hollywood a huge favor by bringing his talents to the industry. The actor/writer has managed to corner a market that the execs of Tinsel Town considered entirely lost, especially given that content that came out of the industry didn’t necessarily skewer toward the mid-western audience.

A lot of Taylor Sheridan’s work seems to be focused on making great character pieces, whether it services the plot or not. Sheridan revealed in a roundtable with The Hollywood Reporter that his process for churning out these amazing stories rests on one possible problem that he includes in his writing.

More often than not, the writer revealed, that when it comes to writing characters, Sheridan would imagine a particular actor in the role that he is writing. This is usually considered to be a double-edged sword, given that the availability of an actor is subject to a lot of variables, and it is completely possible that the actor that the part is written for could decide not to do the show at all.

Have you ever had one of those friends who shows up at every gathering, steals the spotlight, and after a while, you find yourself saying, “Okay, we get it. You’re the life of the party”? Well, Taylor Sheridan might be that friend in the world of Western dramas. While many creators choose to stay behind the scenes, Sheridan has embraced his role in front of the camera, and while some may appreciate his appearances, others are starting to raise an eyebrow.

The Western is undoubtedly one of the great foundational genres in the history of cinema. As such, its influence goes beyond Western movies proper — be they classic Western movies from the 1950s and 1960s or modern neo-Westerns — and spreads to all other genres, shaping the way certain scenes are shot or how particular Western genre tropes are used in developing plots.
Some Western-adjacent movies are easier to spot than others, neo-Westerns especially because while they rework some of the genre's most frequent tropes, they're usually still set in the American West and generally feel very Western. Other movies, however, simply pick and choose some Western elements to weave into their stories that might be surprising to audiences when pointed out. However, all have the potential to delight and move audiences with how they twist and remake the recurring themes of the Western genre, to say something more about the modern day.

Taylor Sheridan may be best known for Yellowstone but he cracked screenwriting on the big screen with films like Sicario and Hell or High Water. Featuring themes and genres that would later on define his style, the latter was a neo-Western starring Jeff Bridges and Chris Pine, which gave Sheridan his first Oscar nomination.
While the film was also nominated in several other categories including Best Picture, the year had tough competition with the likes of Damien Chazelle, Mike Mills, and more being strong contenders. Sheridan lost the Best Original Screenplay Award to Manchester by the Sea, and to be honest, that was deserved.

Mel Gibson thrived as a popular actor for 15 years before Braveheart, but it was that film (his second as a director) which brought him awards attention for the first time (at least outside Australia). The movie was nominated for 10 Oscars and remains the only film for which Gibson won an Academy Award. Three decades later, some people look back on that Best Picture winner as a melodramatic, inaccurate slog, while it remains a classic epic to others. Depending on where you stand about Braveheart, you might be delighted to know that there's an unofficial sequel starring Chris Pine, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Florence Pugh — Outlaw King.
The Netflix film picks up almost directly after Braveheart ends. It comes at a precarious moment when England was trying to repair English-Scottish relations by marrying the king's goddaughter (Pugh) to Bruce (Pine). Taylor Sheridan is a miniature industry unto himself. He wrote the Oscar hopefuls "Sicario," "Hell or High Water," and "Wind River," as well as the thrillers "Without Remorse" and "Those Who Wish Me Dead." These are in addition to a modest acting career that put Sheridan on TV shows like "Walker, Texas Ranger," "Doctor Quinn, Medicine Woman," "Party of Five," "NYPD Blue," "Sons of Anarchy," and even "Star Trek: Enterprise." He also plays the supporting character of Travis Wheatley on "Yellowstone" and Charles on the prequel series "1883."
Sheridan has evolved into the modern torch-bearer for Western machismo, and he is often drawn into the dark hearts of manly men. He also seems to love crime stories, tales of criminals/lawmen, and conflicts that end with gunplay.
