Why Was Ranbir Kapoor Shocked By Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani & Rocket Singh’s Bo Numbers? (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Ranbir Kapoor didn’t have quite an exciting start to his Bollywood career. His first film, a Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial, Saawariya (2007), was a critical and commercial failure. His next Yrf release, Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008), also didn’t work out well for him.

His commercial success as an actor finally came from Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahaani in 2009, a movie Ranbir thought would be an epic disaster. The slapstick comedy from Rajkumar Santoshi became the fourth biggest hit of the year.

However, His third release in 2009, Yrf’s Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, tanked at the box office. Ranbir initially thought the movie was a Munna Bhai-type movie for his career. But destiny had other plans,

The results of these two movies left Ranbir Kapoor astounded. Speaking at the Aib India YouTube channel once,...

Image
Oppenheimer, Omg 2, Barbie, Pathaan: 2023 Films That Sparked Controversies(Photo Credit –IMDb)

The year 2023 has been a year of controversies for Hindi films in particular. A new controversy seemed to be just a new release away. Right from celebs landing into controversies to their films being called out, the year has seen it all. While films like Pathaan were accused of copying scenes from many Hollywood flicks, upcoming films like Fighter were said to be modeled on Tom Cruise films.

Even Kalki 2898 Ad’s first look was said to be a copy of the Hollywood film Dune. Not only this, this year’s biggest controversy was the tampering of box office numbers and corporate and bulk bookings.

Shah Rukh Khan was accused of releasing fake box office numbers for his films Pathaan and Jawan. After Dunki Vs Salaar, even Prabhas’ film was accused of doing the same. However, there were...

Big B's five decade in B-Town
Amitabh Bachchan's journey of five decades to become the Bollywood "Shahenshah" was not always a smooth ride. Indeed, his life is nothing short of brilliant biopic material. Early rejections were followed by a phase when he made his mark as a promising actor, which was soon overshadowed by the kind of superstardom Bollywood never saw before or after. When the superstar tried his hand at film entrepreneurship, he went bankrupt, only to bounce back and claim supremacy as a super brand and respectability as an icon.

The first reaction of the industry all those years ago, however, was far from welcoming. His tall and lanky frame, and the baritone of his voice, were deemed unsuitable for Bollywood's image of a perfect hero back then. These factors were pointed out as flaws, and reasons why he wouldn't be able to make it big in the industry.

The show has truly entertained its audiences to the core. From Srk and Alia's witty conversations to Twinkle ruling with her candid and unfiltered words, from Akshay crooning Frank Sinatra song to Varun and Arjun adding the ‘hilarious best’ tag with their antics, the show has indeed started in a glorious manner. Vidya Balan’s choice, Ranbir Kapoor not Ranveer Singh!
It's either Ranveer or Ranbir, these days. A hard choice though but these two have made their names do the rounds all over. From appearing in Koffee with Karan Season 5 episode, to the interviews where the interviewee is given a choice to pick one of them, the duo is getting popular. The Dirty Picture, actor, Vidya Balan recently got trapped in the same questionnaire. Speaking in an interview for the promotion of her upcoming release, Kahani 2 with PinkVilla, Vidya was asked to make a quick choice as with whom she wants to share the screen space in a movie. The answer was candid, as the ‘Parineeta’ actor Vidya, never minces her words. She gladly replied in favour of Ranbir Kapoor. Not to disappoint Ranveer, she bluntly said, “he is a ‘Besharam’ (of course in a good way)”. Ranbir, the charmer, is romancing his way to glory. His sizzling chemistry with...

Ranveer Singh, Vaani Kapoor entertain fans with ‘Befikre’ answers
Be it onscreen or off screen, Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor are leaving no chance to woe fans with their quick wit, one liners and crackling chemistry. The actors are following a simple rule of ‘no-rules-limits-labels’ in the film's trailers, songs and behind the scene videos. By now if you have started to think it as a part and parcel of their promotion strategy, we beg to differ! The attitude of the duo, is pretty much same in real as they appear in reel. ‘Candid best’ can be the simplest way to tag them up during the launch of ‘Befikre's’ new song ‘You and Me’ on November 15. In the film, Ranveer and Vaani have shared kisses as many as 23 times and this is something that has kept everyone talking about. During the press meet, Vaani, who has locked lips with Sushant Singh Rajput in ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’ (2013), was asked...

Box Office – Sajid Nadiadwala’s Midas touch works again as Imtiaz Ali’s Tamasha does well over the weekend
Tamasha has done well over the weekend. The film took a good start on Friday (10.87 crore), showed growth on Saturday (13.17 crore) and then consolidated well on Sunday (14.12 crore), hence seeing a weekend of 38.23 crore. This has been a positive trend for the Imtiaz Ali directed film which was catering to a niche audience and was unlike any of the quintessential romcoms that hit the screens with every passing month. With a conventional narrative to boast of, the film has found good following from the target audiences, who have lapped up what was on display.

The film has now seen the best opening for a Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone starrer as their biggest weekend so far in 2015 was Roy (28.68 crore) and Piku (25.22 crore). Moreover, for Imtiaz Ali too, this is his biggest opening weekend ever, hence surpassing Love Aaj Kal (28 crore) and Rockstar (35 crore). What is all the more noticeable...

Will Ranbir Kapoor's Jagga Jasoos face a similar fate like Bombay Velvet?
While his personal life is blossoming with love (as he is reportedly in relationship with Katrina Kaif), it seems our Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor's career is going through a rough patch! After three back-to-back duds like Besharam, Roy and Bombay Velvet, looks like Ranbir's other projects are also getting jinxed. Well, we are talking about his upcoming film Jagga Jasoos, which is being helmed by Barfi maker Anurag Basu.

Much like Bombay Velvet, Ranbir's Jagga Jasoos also has been constantly delayed. Even the latest buzz in trade suggests that Jagga Jasoos has been pushed to next year (June) for release, as major portions of the film are being reshot. Like Bombay Velvet, Jagga Jasoos has been in news for various controversies. Right from Ranbir getting upset with the film shaping up to differences with his directors. Besides, a couple of days back reports were rife that Govinda has backed...

Box Office – Ranbir (Bombay Velvet) and Deepika (Piku) now head for Tamasha
Bombay Velvet has created a record of amassing biggest losses of all times. With a poor opening, practically no word of mouth and zero patronage during the weekdays, it was a nosedive for the Anurag Kashyap directed film. With the filmmaker pretty much admitting the film’s failure before the end of weekend itself, the writing was clear on the wall. The film’s fate can be gauged by the fact that its first week total of 21 crore is less than Day One collections of Ranbir Kapoor’s Besharam, which too was a flop. In fact it is even lesser than the first two days collections of Roy.

While much is being said about Bombay Velvet impacting Ranbir Kapoor’s stardom, it is not going to be the case. A film’s failure impacts most when a fan-base watches the film and rejects it. However, Bombay Velvet wasn’t even seen by anyone,...

Tanu Weds Manu Returns impresses, Bombay Velvet is a disaster!
The much awaited R Madhavan, Kangana Ranaut, Jimmy Shergill, Deepak Dobriyal and Swara Bhaskar starrer, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, the follow up to the highly successful Tanu Weds Manu, started on an impressive note. The opening can be termed as great in Delhi-ncr, East Punjab and good at other places, except for some stations of South and East India. The icing on the cake was a further pick up during the latter shows, which consolidated the fact that Tanu Weds Manu Returns is a sureshot hit, how big or small time will tell!

Meanwhile, after a decent start (at high end metro multiplexes), Anurag Kashyap's Ranbir-Anushka starrer, Bombay Velvet, crashed badly, second day onwards, ending the first week with a dismal 24 crore (to be validated). The film turns out to be the second disaster of Ranbir Kapoor's career after Abhinav Kashyap's , Besharam.

Concluding with the Amitabh, Irrfan and Deepika starrer,...

Will Tamasha & Ae Dil Hai Mushkil break the jinx for Ranbir Kapoor?
After Besharam and Roy, Bombay Velevt is Ranbir Kapoor's third film in a row that bombed at Box-office. And it has certainly shaken the actor, who has been applauded for his sterling performances and gave some really good films in the past.

Ranbir recently in one of the interviews poured his heart out saying that 'there's a sense of insecurity and I don't know what's happening with my career'. While we definitely understand the plight of his mind and the ongoing situations, all we have to say is there is a dawn after every dusk! There is still more to go and look forward to. The charming actor doesn't need to lose heart and hope.

If we look at his future projects, then Ranbir has three interesting films lined up namely Tamasha, Jagga Jasoos and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. While Jagga Jasoos is bit delayed (and it was even...

Box Office – Bombay Velvet defies all predictions, proves to be a Disaster
The prediction has failed, and how. In this column it was stated that Bombay Velvet would go on to net at least 10 crore on Day One. The barometer for such reasonable numbers, though not great by any means, was the opening of Roy which had stepped into double digits despite Ranbir being in a supporting role. However, all such predictions hit South when the D-day arrived. Though it had seemed that the Anurag Kashyap starrer would at least manage a face saving opening, none of that turned out to be true, what with empty houses greeting those select few who started stepping in sporadically.

Though it had seemed that the collections would improve as shows progressed in the evening, there was no respite as the word of mouth started trickling in. The film was hit on both counts, what with no opening and then poor word of mouth as well.

5 probable reasons why Rishi Kapoor is disapproving of Katrina Kaif
While dad Rishi Kapoor has always been proud of Ranbir Kapoor's various achievements, he doesn't seem to be happy with his son's latest decision (of being in relationship with Katrina Kaif). Hawaizaada Movie Review
As Indians we have always been proud of how our ancestors were way ahead of their times, giving the world some revolutionary concepts and inventions. So ‘Aryabhatta gave the world the number 0’ is often our trademark reply to India being called a backward and third world country in almost any movie. Taking this a bit further is Vibhu Puri’s Hawaizaada based on a theory that an Indian was the first to build an airplane before the Wright brothers did.

Marathi manoos Shivkar Talpade (Ayushman Khurana) is a disappointment to his father who has repeatedly failed fourth grade. His father finally has enough and throws him out when he is taken in by Shastri. Shastri (Mithun Chakraborty) is a scientist who is trying to decode the Vedas to find the answers to the making of numerous inventions which apparently our ancestors have hidden and makes Talpade his assistant. In between...

Hawaizaada Gets Ready to Soar High
Forthcoming big-screen release Hawaizaada is set to inspire a new generation of filmgoers in a tale of unwavering daring, ingenuity and glory. Releasing internationally in cinemas on 30thJanuary 2015 by Reliance Entertainment, Hawaizaada celebrates the Indian spirit of adventure and invention as well as the country’s prolific freedom struggle, as it unfolds the story of one man’s dreams and aspirations amidst considerable adversity.

Hawaizaada is the story of Shivkar Bapuji Talpade, an unsung hero, a vedic scholar and an expert on Sanskrit literature. He is regarded as the great Indian scholar who not only sketched out but also built the first ever airplane in 1895, eight years before the Wright Brothers, the American duo who were originally credited for being pioneers in the field of aviation. Shivkar Bapuji Talpade airplane was the first ever controlled, powered and sustained heavier-than-air human flight. Though his effort failed, his work and research was...

Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7: Week 3 – Made in India!
We are back with another look at what happened on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa! This week’s show opened with the international judge Maksim Chmerkovskiy dancing to the song ‘Criminal’ from Ra One. The audience really loved his performance, as it was the first time Maksim had danced solo on the show.

Host Ranvir, then tricked the contestants into a “pass the parcel” game, by throwing them a mirror ball and saying that whoever caught the ball, would go directly into the face-off. But judge Karan Johar used his “jhoothameter” and said that Ranvir was fooling around, the mirror ball would say who was safe from the eliminations.

This week’s theme was Made in India which meant the contestants would be performing on dance styles that originated from India.

Ayushmann Khurrana’s first look in Hawaizaada
Check out the first look of Ayushmann Khurrana’s upcoming film Hawaizaada, previously titled as Bombay Fairytale. Directed by debutant Vibhu Puri and opposite Pallavi Sharda, the period film is a biopic of scientific Shivkar Bapuji Talpade, who is believed to have constructed and flown India’s first unmanned airplane in 1985, eight years before the Wright brothers.

It was the actress of Besharam who posted the still on Twitter along with the release date of the film, “Glimpse of Ayushmann Khurrana in his vintage Shivkar Talpade avatar for our upcoming film Hawaaizaada…Releasing Oct. 10!”

The picture shows Ayushmann as Shivkar Talpade while he observes one of his plane prototypes. As a source closed to the production explained, the scientist experimented with several types of planes until he succeeded to make one of them fly.

The film is set in Mumbai during the 1880s, so a great effort to capture the...

Bollywood considered cool in the West: Pallavi Sharda
Pallavi Sharda Wedding Season Premiere
Mumbai, March 23: Indian-Australian actress Pallavi Sharda, who made her Bollywood debut with "Besharam", is happy being part of the Hindi filmdom and says the West doesn't look down upon the industry.

"I am extremely happy being part of Bollywood or being called a Hindi film actress. As far as West is concerned, they enjoy Bollywood and they don't look down upon Bollywood," Pallavi told Ians.

"Bollywood is cool in the West, especially the song and dance. But yes, sometimes-western filmmakers find it cliched and less crafted. I come from western school and I have been raised in the west, so I think every cinema has.

Rishi Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, and Ayushmann Khurrana in Bewakoofiyaan (2014)
I can't do the stereotypical father's roles: Rishi Kapoor
Rishi Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, and Ayushmann Khurrana in Bewakoofiyaan (2014)
Mumbai, March 7: Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, who plays Sonam Kapoor's father in debutant director Nupur Asthana's "Bewakoofiyaan" says he isn't likely to be seen in any "stereotypical" fatherly roles as he finds them "too unexciting".

"If you notice, I didn't play my own son's (Ranbir) father in 'Besharam'. It is not vanity, just sanity. I can't do the stereotypical father's role. They don't challenge me as an actor at all. So I avoid doing father's roles. It's just too unexciting," said the 61-year-old.

"To my good fortune I am getting roles that do not require me to be the so-called father," he added.

Koffee with Karan Season 4: With Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha
Last Sunday, Emraan Hashmi along with Mahesh Bhatt entertained us with a brilliant talk on the couch of Koffee with Karan Season 4, and this weekend KJo brought old guests Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha back for some more filmy talk. Read on to know what they think about relationships, success and more!

Sonakshi Sinha surely didn’t change her otherwise set image of being the ‘goody two shoes’ and you could really see Karan Johar trying to bring something out of her. She stuck to her ‘I go to the set on time, shoot and then go back home’ words. She found some new respect when she did wonders as Paakhi in Lootera, about which she said,” I am so glad that Vikramaditya gave me Paakhi, a character that was so dear to him. I had to do that!” Sonakshi has always been on the curvy side, to which she...

Ranbir Kapoor in Besharam, Monsieur Sans-Gêne (2013)
Pallavi Sharda craves to do a dance number
Ranbir Kapoor in Besharam, Monsieur Sans-Gêne (2013)
Mumbai, Jan 22: Actress Pallavi Sharda, a trained Bharatnatyam dancer, is eager to shake a leg in a dance number.

The actress, who made her Bollywood debut with "Besharam", feels that the word "item number" sounds "negative" and added: "There are so many actresses who are doing some beautiful songs as guest dancers. I would love to do an interesting dance number. In fact, it's the one thing that I am craving for."

"Besharam" was Abhinav Kashyap's second directorial venture after Salman Khan starrer super hit "Dabangg", but he failed to create the same magic with Ranbir Kapoor. The romantic-comedy turned turtle at the.

Reflections 2013: Top 10 Disappointments of 2013
2013 has had some fantastic films from the passionate Ram-Leela to the dramatic Kai Po Che. There have of course been some majorly disappointing films. These either had fantastic trailers which showed promised of exciting cinema, or boasted star casts that would surely choose only the best of scripts. Take a look at the over-hyped films that brought nothing but heart-breaking sadness to the filmi buffs globally.

10. Bullet Raja

We were expecting a little bit of action, a little bit of comedy and little bit of romance. Tigmanshu Dhulia, director of the fantastic Paan Singh Tomar, sadly lets us down with this directorial venture. The dialogues are disappointing, the music is forgettable and draws the film out unnecessarily and the story is quite unbelievable. Sorry Saif, better luck next time.

9. Race 2

Race 1 was a stylish movie with fast-paced action and beautiful international locations. Race 2 maintains the style, some nice locations,...

Reflections 2013: Best Bollyspice Interviews in 2013
2013 was an exciting year for BollySpice, with our reporters speaking to many of your favourite Bollywood stars across the world, from New York, to London, to Mumbai and beyond. We thought we should do a quick recap of some of our interviews from 2013 to see in the new year, with our promise to bring you bigger and better interviews in 2014. So here’s five of our favourites, in no particular order – as they were all great!

Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra

We met Hrithik and Priyanka in London for their promotions of Krrish 3. Both the stars were in a particularly hyperactive mood and were literally bouncing off one another! What made the interview though was a lesson from them in ‘Bro-codes’, where they refused to give in to our challenges of pitting Krrish the superhero against other contemporary superheros and instead gave us the virtues of the bro-code and...

Reflections 2013: Razzies of 2013
The year 2013 wasn’t without its awful dreck, unlistenable songs, and dreadfully earnest star sons trying their hand at acting. It was also the year where trumpeting your own horn (looking at you Mr Sajid Khan!) proved to an ironically bad choice, promotion tours became exhaustively boring, and albums that made our ears bleed. There were many terrible films and debuts that made us cringe, and shake our fists at the wasted potential. Here once again are the Bollywood Razzies of 2013.

Awful Actress – Pallavi Sharda

It was quite astonishing that Sharda managed to bodge up a dream debut with Ranbir Kapoor in Besharam. While the film was hyped to be a rollicking comedy, Sharda was picked out from the crop of Bollywood actresses for Abhinav Kashyap’s film away from Dabangg mania. Sharda looked completely uncomfortable in her big role, where the three Kapoors tried to salvage the crumbling story and bad writing.

Reflections 2013: Best Songs of 2013
The year in song in 2013 certainly was a treat for Hindi music fans. With songs ranging to straight-up classical influences, to songs with a Southern tinge plus the new grooves that hit high notes of hard rock, dub step, hip-hop, and punk-rock there was something for everyone. 2013 had some wonderful musical moments and they were not all on the big screen. This year we thought we would change it up a bit and not only highlight the best songs of the movies, we also wanted to shine the light on some of the brilliant performances that took place on MTV’s Coke Studio and MTV Unplugged. So take a dekho at our list of the 50 best songs of 2013.

50. Aiyo Ji – Satyagraha – Salim Merchant & Shraddah Pandit- Salim-Sulaiman

49. Dum Mast Kalander – David – Rekha Bharadwaj – Mikey Mccleary

48. Zariya – Ar Rahman – Ani Choying Drolma, Farah Siraj- Coke Studio @ MTV Season 3

Blog Post: An Open Letter from Ranbir Kapoor Fans to the Media
Note: The views expressed in this article do not reflect the views of BollySpice.com’s staff or owners. They are solely the views of the writer of this opinion piece/blog.

Dear certain members of the media,

On Thursday, the 5th of December, Ranbir Kapoor was caught in a, as you would call it, “camera snatching incident”. Ever since then, a lot has been said and written about this incident. Due to many variations in the story of what happened on that particular night, misinformation and incorrectly influenced sources are tarnishing Ranbir’s reputation in front of fans, non-fans and other audiences. We are not blind fans who’ll support our favourite actor, no matter what. And while taking the journalist’s camera might have been a slightly harsh expression of Ranbir’s disapproval, we have sufficient reasons to believe it was not entirely unjustified.

The importance of the...

Ranbir Kapoor does not regret doing Besharam
After several box-office hits, Ranbir Kapoor certainly was on a role but then he had to face one of his films flopping at the box office. Despite the fact his latest film was not the success that was expected, the actor does not regret doing Besharam.

“I don’t regret doing the film. All films can’t be hit. My first film Saawariya was also a flop. There is no hit formula. I don’t know if there is a hit formula”, he said at a Philips event. Instead, Kapoor prefers to stay positive and values the experience of working with his parents and director Abhinav Kashiap. As he added, “I have done mistakes and try and learn from it. I have seen success, failure both and wherever I am today professionally is because of my success and failure.”

Kapoor’s next project is Bombay Velvet, where he plays the role of a street-fighter.

This Friday's prominent release, the Faraz Haider directed, War Chhod Na Yaar, managed to get a much wider release and screen space than it would have normally bargained for, if Abhinav Kashyap's Besharam had performed even half decently. Coming to the details, the Sharman Joshi and Soha Ali Khan starrer, War Chhod Na Yaar, was off to a 15-20 percent start during the morning shows and showed an uptick in collections during the latter shows.
