Matrioshka

Matrioshka sets the stage for an emotionally charged drama, yet the execution never quite reaches the rawness it aspires to. The performances from the entire cast, especially the actress portraying the older 'surrogate' mother, are competent and often nuanced, but they fall short of delivering the kind of unfiltered visceral emotion that makes a story like this one truly linger. Falls short of the kind of emotional shock from a film like Doubt (2008).

The real stumbling block, however, lies in the pacing. What should have been a slow build towards a powerful crescendo instead becomes a prolonged wait that tests the viewer's patience. The narrative stalls, circling the runway far too long before touching down on its central emotional moment. By the time the climax arrived, I found myself fast-forwarding just to get there-an outcome that speaks volumes about the imbalance between buildup and payoff.

This is frustrating, because the actors show potential. I think a second chance should be in order for this promising cast, and a bit more punch added into the director's approach.

Just watched this film, and I have to say, it really hit me. The story follows Ana, who heads to her grandmother's house in Colombia to find some peace after years of tension with her mom, Julia, who left her as a kid. The way their complicated relationships unfold on screen is so raw and emotional.

One of the most powerful moments is when Ana opens up about her abortion. It really shows how much she's been struggling inside. The cinematography is beautiful, too - the Colombian countryside looks amazing, and it's like a perfect backdrop for Ana's emotional journey.

The performances are excellent, and you can really feel the depth of each character. The film makes you think about your own family and how important it is to heal those broken bonds. It's not all tied up neatly, but the message of hope and moving forward really shines through.

Definitely recommend it if you're into emotional, thought-provoking stories about family and redemption.
