US Weekly reported the news that Rodriguez will be on Y&r in the near future as Pietro in four episodes. Rodriguez’s character will be “a successful and sought-out party planner to the movers and shakers in Genoa City.”

It seems like his appearance will be part of something exciting — Nikki’s (Melody Thomas Scott) birthday party. The exciting news is Rodriguez’s first airdate is May 28, which will be here before we know it.

All My Children fans may recognize Rodriguez as Faith’s father. That role was his television debut. In addition to AMC, he appeared on One Life to Live as Andrew, Days of our Lives as Matteo, and The Bold and the Beautiful as photographer Sax.

When Kit Williamson’s “EastSiders” premiered on YouTube in December 2012, Netflix had not yet debuted its first original series. A dozen years later, streaming has overtaken traditional television in the market — and Williamson is back with another LGBTQ+ slice of life show, this time in the form of “Unconventional” on Revry.

“I don’t know that anybody really predicted it becoming what it’s become,” the actor/creator/writer/director told TheWrap of the streaming boom. “I hope that there is an increasing demand for independently created television when we live in such a, let’s be honest, metric-driven world where algorithms are deciding whether or not stories get told or continued.”

Kit Williamson, best known for creating and starring in the Emmy-nominated series “EastSiders,” is back with “Unconventional.”

Premiering on LGBTQ streaming platform Revry on Feb. 11, the TV comedy series stars Williamson as Noah, a queer millennial questioning the future of his 10-year marriage to his husband Dan (James Bland). At the same time, Noah becomes the sperm donor to his sister Margot’s wife, Eliza. Each episode follows a month of the pregnancy.

As Williamson first told me when I broke the news about the show’s Revry deal, “Unconventional” is “unapologetically queer.”

It looks like High Potential is, once again, back to putting the case of Roman’s disappearance on the back burner. This series is amazing, but it’s playing a game of chicken with the audience.

Not that I’m complaining or anything, but a little consistency goes a long way. If you’re anything like this TV Fanatic, you like your loose ends wrapped up nicely in a bow.

High Potential has delivered one amazing episode after another with a cast of incredibly talented actors — not to mention writing that takes audiences on an emotional roller coaster.

What more could the executives at ABC need to give a knock-out series like this the go-ahead for another season? Hell, give High Potential a multiple-season renewal.

If for no other reason than for some assurance that we will see some of the hilarious characters introduced in High Potential Season 1 Episode 10 again.

Kit Williamson’s new scripted half-hour comedy series “Unconventional” has been acquired by LGBTQ streaming network Revry.

Williamson, a six-time Emmy nominee best known as the creator and star of “Eastsiders,” stars in “Unconventional” as Noah Guillory, a queer millennial struggling with his 10-year marriage, possibly starting a family, and the future of his PhD program while also acting as the sperm donor to his sister Margot’s wife, Eliza.

The nine-episode season – each episode follows a month of Eliza’s pregnancy — will premiere on Revry on Feb. 11.

“‘Unconventional’ comes at a time where stories about marginalized communities are more important than ever and ‘Unconventional’ is an unapologetically queer show,” Williamson said Thursday. “Unfortunately, LGBTQ representation has diminished considerably since ‘Eastsiders’ ended, and mainstream depictions often shy away from the complex realities of queer love. Revry is the perfect home for the series and I couldn’t be more excited about the acquisition.

Pogues and Kooks will clash once more in the latest season of Netflix’s Outer Banks, which will arrive on this fall in two parts. Part 2 is on the horizon with a launch date of Nov. 7.

The Young Adult seaside series has come a long way since its Season 1 debut amidst the Covid-19 pandemic on April 15, 2020.

Season 4 of the Netflix series will be split into two parts just like Emily in Paris Season 4 was recently, with the first part coming out October 10 and the second part, out November 7.

Parry Shen’s return to General Hospital has been long overdue. His character, Brad, had previously been married to Lucas. But Brad’s misdeeds, which involved a tragic baby swap, put the kibosh on their relationship. Recently, Lucas also returned to Port Charles and told Brad in no uncertain terms that he wanted nothing to do with him. Shen recently described playing Brad alongside Lucas’ new portrayer, Van Hansis.

Hansis is no stranger to soap operas, having played Luke Snyder on As the World Turns from 2005 to 2010. He worked his way through several projects until landing at Gh as a recast of Lucas. Brad and Lucas had a good thing going until it was revealed that Brad swapped their dead baby with that of Nelle’s (Chloe Lanier) very alive baby. Subsequently, Lucas divorced him in 2020.

Born in North Adams, Ma, Hansis and his family moved to Greenfield when he was in the third grade. He began performing in theater camp as a child. He later attended Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Natick before attending Carnegie Mellon University, where he graduated with a BA in acting from the School of Drama.

Hansis has appeared in guest roles on several television series, including The Mentalist and FBI, and starred in the 2011 thriller, Occupant, which premiered at the Gotham Screen International Film Festival in New York City in 2011.

Although his debut could be derailed by a potential preemption later this week, “As The World Turns” alum Van Hansis (ex-Luke Snyder) is returning to daytime television when he takes over the role of Lucas Jones on ABC’s “General Hospital,” last played by Ryan Carnes.

According to TV Insider, which first reported the news, Hansis is set to hit Port Charles on the Friday, October 4 episode, albeit contingent on whether or not ABC’s coverage of the Major League Baseball Wild Card Series causes a last-minute preemption of the drama series on Thursday, October 3.

Actor Van Hansis is set to join the cast of General Hospital to take over the role of Lucas Jones. The actor has talked about his transition to the series, including how similar he feels Jones is to another soap character he’s played. The role also allowed Hansis to reunite with a former castmate from a previous soap.

TV Insider is reporting that As The World Turns (Atwt) alum Van Hansis will debut as Lucas Jones on General Hospital, as early as next week.

The actor played Luke Snyder from 2005-2010 on Atwt, and it’s being reported that his first air date will be Friday, October 4.

With that being said, Major League Baseball post-season games could always pre-empt the Thursday, October 3 show, pushing Hansis’s debut to Monday, October 7. Only time will tell.

Can television have its own New Hollywood moment?

Much like movies such as Bonnie and Clyde, The Graduate, Rosemary’s Baby and Easy Rider took the late 1960s by storm, a group of writers and directors are hoping that their own independent TV projects can break through and find their way to the small screen amidst the current Hollywood contraction.

After a number of web series such as Issa Rae’s The Mis-Adventures of Awkward Black Girl, Broad City and High Maintenance were turned into TV series over the past decade, writers and directors hoped that this would lead to more.

However, the rise of streaming originals saw the business go the other way, with incredibly expensive dramas and comedies, often led by movie stars, taking over. This trend is now waning and a new generation of creators hopes that cost-conscious companies will now pay more attention to their projects instead.

“Outer Banks” Season 4 has added five new cast members, Variety has learned.

J. Anthony Crane, Pollyanna McIntosh, Brianna Brown, Rigo Sanchez, and Mia Challis have all joined the popular adventure drama series in recurring guest star roles.

“Outer Banks” originally debuted in 2020 and proved to be a major hit for Netflix. Per the streamer, Season 3 of the series spent six weeks on the global Top 10 English TV list and reached the Top 10 charts in 77 countries.

Jason Priestley has boarded upcoming CBC drama Wild Cards, as the Canadian network unveils its winter slate.

The Beverly Hills 90210 star will play lead character Max’s father and master conman George in the series launching January 10 in Canada. It will debut at 8 pm January 17 on The CW in the U.S. followed by Family Law at 9 pm on the network. Exclusive: Jumanji producer Radar Pictures is adapting Mercedes Lackey’s Valdemar literary universe for television.

The company, founded by Interscope Records co-founder Ted Field, who is an exec producer on Amazon’s The Wheel of Time series, has acquired the small screen rights to the books, which number 58 over more than 30 years.

Exclusive: Hot Sauce, the production company of actor Joy Bryant and writer-producer Samantha Taylor Pickett, has brought in producer Inuka Bacote-Capiga as SVP Development and Production. Hot Sauce launched earlier this year with a multi-year first-look deal at Sony Pictures Television and a mission to develop and produce universal stories from unique and original voices that span genre and culture.

Bacote-Capiga’s producing credits include the feature documentary Summer of Soul, which won the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award in the U.S. Documentary Competition at 2021 Sundance Film Festival. The doc was acquired by Searchlight Pictures and will debut on Hulu and in theaters in July.

She helmed the apocalypse buddy road trip film Best Friends Forever as well as episodes of Eastsiders and Pandora, and this year, she has two features coming out. “The Bay” already won Best Digital Drama Series at the 2020 Daytime Emmys telecast on June 26, but the rest of the prizes for digital dramas were presented on Sunday night, July 19, during a special hour-long streaming ceremony hosted by Jai Rodriguez, himself an Emmy winner as one of the original hosts of “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.” And it was another big night for “The Bay.” Check out the complete updated list of Emmy winners here.

The Amazon streaming series won three more awards: Best Actor (Kristos Andrews), Best Actress (Jade Harlow) and Best Directing Team. That brings the show’s total to four wins for the Winning isn’t new for “The Bay,” though. The online soap has won Best Digital Drama Series five times now, counting 2015 when that award was known as Best New Approaches Drama Series.

On Sunday, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) unveiled the winners in the Digital Dramas category for the 47th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards via a virtual livestream ceremony hosted by Jai Rodriguez from the original Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

As the first virtual ceremony for the Daytime Emmys, Rodriguez hosted from a studio in Burbank adhering social distancing production protocols while the nominees waited to hear the winners virtually. The livestream from a dedicated, Vimeo-powered online viewing platform created for the Emmys also included interviews with some of the nominees throughout the ceremony.

This year’s Daytime Emmy Awards received nearly 300 entries in the Digital Drama categories, representing 25 separate shows entered across the genre. The nominees included the first two transgender acting nominees in Daytime Emmy history including Scott Turner Schofield his role in Studio City on Amazon Prime and Rowin for her role in King Ester on YouTube.

The first wave of the 47th Daytime Emmy Awards were handed out on Friday night, and CBS’ The Young and the Restless led all soap operas with eight total wins, including for Outstanding Drama and Lead Actor.

CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful and ABC’s General Hospital each secured four total wins.

NBC’s Days of Our Lives claimed two awards, while The Bay The Series was named Outstanding Digital Drama Series.

Update, with post-broadcast winners CBS’ The Young And The Restless was named Outstanding Drama at the 47th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards tonight, with exec producer Anthony Morina calling the trophy “bittersweet” due to the deaths of three colleagues this year: Lee Bell, co-creator of the soap; longtime cast member Kristoff St. John; and Lisa de Cazotte, supervising producer.

“We dedicate this award to them,” Morina said.

Jeopardy’s Alex Trebek won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Game Show Host. “I’ll be honest with you this one is a shock, very surprising to me,” Trebek said in accepting his win, adding, “Speaking as one who has now been nominated 32 times and won 7 times, I think I can say with some degree of authority that winning is nicer.”

Trebek was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer last year.

Kit Williamson, the creator-director-star of Netflix’s Emmy-nominated soap EastSiders, has set up his next project. He has teamed with indie film producer Cold Iron Pictures and indie distributor The Film Arcade along with financier The Money Pool on Unconventional, a dark LGBTQ comedy series that Williamson will write, direct and star in.

Unconventional centers on two eccentric, queer siblings and their significant others trying to start an unconventional family while navigating their 30s, trying to come to terms with their professional limitations in a screwed-up economy, trying to stay sane in a screwed-up world and, most importantly, trying to hold on to the bond they share.

A writers room opens this month on the series, which was developed at Sundance Labs, with the plan to pen nine half-hour episodes.

Singer Kelly Clarkson debuted her syndicated talk show “The Kelly Clarkson Show” last fall, and in its first season on the air it has already made a big splash at the Daytime Emmys with seven nominations, which makes it the second most nominated talk show behind “The View.” And if Clarkson wins she’ll follow Jennifer Hudson as only the second “American Idol” alum to get halfway to Egot.

Hudson was infamously eliminated from “American Idol” in seventh place during the show’s third season, but she got the last laugh. She made her feature film debut in the musical “Dreamgirls” (2006) and won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress; she’s still the only “Idol” alum with an Oscar on their mantel. Then she won her first Grammy in 2009: Best R&b Album for her self-titled debut collection. Then she won Best Musical Theater Album in 2017 for “The Color Purple.

The Kelly Clarkson Show, which only premiered last fall, put up a strong showing, securing seven total nominations (the most of any entertainment talk show). The noms included Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show and Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host.

In a somewhat surprising move, Dr. Oz (the show and the talk show host) were completely left out for the first time in a decade.

CBS leads all networks, and ABC’s “General Hospital” tops all programs, as nominations for the 47th annual Daytime Awards were announced Thursday by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

“General Hospital” garnered a total of 23 nominations, followed closely by the other major TV soaps: NBC’s “Days of Our Lives” (22), CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” (21) and CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” (13). Digital drama series “Eastsiders” (Netflix) and “Studio City” (Amazon Prime Video) landed eight nods each, while among daytime talk shows, ABC’s “The View” led all competitors, with eight nominations as well.

The most-nominated kids’ series were Apple TV Plus’ “Ghostwriter” and HBO’s “Sesame Street,” also at eight nominations. Interestingly, both are programs from Sesame Workshop that were once seen on PBS in previous incarnations. (The HBO episodes of “Sesame Street” are still run in a second window on PBS.)

CBS has named the creative and writing team that will lead the studio’s actors showcase in 2020, formerly known as the CBS Diversity Sketch Comedy Showcase. The event, intended to highlight diverse talent, is attended by senior CBS network execs, showrunners and casting directors on CBS series, as well as talent agents and managers.

Returning to direct Showcase, as it is now known, is Stephen Guarino, an actor-writer-director known for “EastSiders” and “I’m Dying Up Here,” while Tess Paras is joining as associate director.
