This film brings back the feeling of old school Hollywood and intertwines spirituality by honoring the energy and essence of the soul beyond the confines of the human vessel that is the body. The premise of this film is a wonderful concept that is so beautifully done and entertainingly presented to the audience. I always enjoy the escape from reality that watching movies provide and this period piece definitely helped me to step away from 2024 and travel back to a simpler time and indulge in the culture of old school Hollywood-the glitz, glamour, excitement, and charm. It truly is a quaint little film and I love it!
"Near Myth: The Oskar Knight Story" is a well-crafted docu-parody guaranteed to keep film buffs and industry veterans smiling (and sometimes laughing out loud!).
The humor is subtle, often dry, evoking numerous grins and chuckles without resorting to crude or heavy-handed comic writing techniques. The mock biopic portrays a fictional director, Oskar Knight, through a series of interviews and historical interludes that paint a tongue-in-cheek portrait of Hollywood's Golden Era, and the film humorously explores idiosyncratic personality types that seem ubiquitous in Tinseltown throughout its history.

Near Myth: The Oskar Knight Story can be described as a mockumentary, similar in to such films as This is Spinal Tap and A Mighty Wind, but in many ways it is so much more. Near Myth: The Oskar Knight Story details the life and films of the legendary director of the title. And it is often so convincing that the viewer can easily forget that Oskar Knight never actually existed. This is helped immensely by the real-life Hollywood personalities who appear throughout the film to discuss Oskar Knight, including Margaret O'Brien, Noel Neil., Jon Provost, Rudolf Martin,Sir David Suchet, and many others. At its core, Near Myth: The Oskar Knight Story is a love letter to Old Hollywood. Through the life and films of Oskar Knight, it acts as a tribute to every director.director, actor, or other artist who never got their due.
