A different kind of zombie horror film

A group of friends gather at a baby shower when a strange illness starts turning people into homicidal maniacs. Being creatures of suburbia, they have limited skills with which to meet this survival challenge.

Killer Party was a pretty decent indie horror flick. There was some pretty good acting and they did well using such a large cast in such a small set. There were some enjoyable characters, but unfortunately, when they started to die off, there was no emotion to anything. And when they died off, we didn't really get to see a lot of the kills. So that's a pretty big downfall when it comes to a zombie style film. I also think that being a horror comedy, it should have been funnier. The film did have its moments, but I think it needed a lot more considering that they didn't really leave the one location. So we needed less of the drama and more jokes.

This didn't really classify as a zombie film, so I liked that. I thought they were doing something different with making these people more rabid, but have personalities to them still rather than mindless zombies just hungry for their next meal. Though the story also lacked direction halfway through. When it's going nowhere, you're just kind of waiting for it to end. And with a film like this, you need that point B. You need a place for them to go to make the audience want to still be invested in the film. I liked the characters. I thought we had a wide variety and their personalities were entertaining and it made me either care for them.

You'll Have a Bloody Good Time at The Shower

So, let me get this out of the way first...a lot of great reviews for small, independent films, end up being composed by the friends and family of the director, producer, or various members of the cast. This is not that kind of review. Out of about 50 shorts and features playing at the 2015 New York Horror Show, my horror-loving best friend chose to see this one, and one other. Little did he know, The Shower turned out to take top awards at the festival--and boy, did it deserve it. The other film, not so much.

First off, great cast...which is an anomaly for films of this size and budget. The fact that the plot revolves around a bunch of actors in various stages of success may have made the roles easier to play, but that shouldn't take anything away from their convincing (and super funny) performances. The Shower is about a group of L.A. friends attending a baby shower, when all hell breaks loose, and a virus turns mild-mannered folk into homicidal maniacs.

If you love films that make you giggle one minute, and gasp the next, you'll have a great time at The Shower. From a killer clown to a little girl who deserves a serious time out, anyone can turn, at any time, which keeps the tension turned up nicely throughout. You'll love the characters you're supposed to love, and hate the ones you'll not miss once they get what's coming to them.

As far as tone goes, you have a little bit of pulpy goodness, served up Tarantino-style, with heavy doses of Shaun Of The Dead wackiness and humor. With that, I urge everyone who likes either or both to seek out The Shower. Aside from really enjoying the film, the thing that made it even more special was getting the chance to meet the writer/director, Alex Drummond. Alex was there during the showing of his film at Horror Fest, then stuck around afterward to answer questions.

Roughly 85% of the audience seemed to be friends, family, and extras from the film, so we could really tell how appreciative he was we chose to see his movie, with so many other movies available for viewing. He was funny, charming, gracious and affable, and answered all of our questions both during he Q&A, and afterward at the hotel bar. Oh, and he has dimples for days, but I would swear on a stack of bibles that had no bearing on my appreciation for the funny, twisted, scary slice of horror he served up with The Shower.

Not sure where you can see it, or when or how it will be released, but you can contact the Shower folks, and check out the trailer, at theshowerthemovie.com

Killer Party is a fantastic indie flick

I saw the movie at the Macabre Faire Film Festival last year. It's about a bunch of L.A. professionals that get together for a baby shower and the world goes haywire while they are there. Then they fight to survive for the rest of the film.

This thing was just fantastic. It has about a gagillion characters in it, and you would think it was Whedon working his magic with how well all of them are defined and given appropriate screen time. The Director juggles the opening introductions with a skill that is somewhat awe-inspiring.

The cast is superb. Just an excellent group of actors. Every hits their notes perfectly.

Yeah, if you've seen the poster, there's a killer clown. But it's not a movie about a killer clown. That's just one of the many interesting parts of the film. It's really about these characters and how they react to each other during this stressful situation.

And it is FUNNY. Laugh out loud hilarious all the way through. Seriously, i had such a great time watching this movie. Easily one of my favorite films I've seen on the festival circuit in the last several years.

If I had anything bad to say about the movie at all, it's that it killed off my favorite character way too early for my tastes. I mean, it was totally right for the story, but I'm selfish and I wanted more hilarity from this particular actor.

Not sure what else to say. Killer Party was truly excellent and you should make time for it.

great mix of horror and comedy

I saw the movie twice with my daughter at some horror conventions. It was my favorite movie at both. I thought there was great acting by everyone, and loved the mix of horror and humor. If you like Shaun of the Dead, you'll like this movie. The special effects were also good. The film was just the right length. I would tell people to catch this film if they are looking for a new horror flick to view. The movie takes place at a shower, infection breaks out, people struggle to make it to a safe place with everyone. The filming was also good and had just the right touch of blood and gore for me. It's the type of film for horror comedy lovers everywhere. i would also like to say at each horror fest that we viewed the movie the room was almost to full, and everyone in the room was enjoying the film, laughing at the right parts, heard all good things as we left the room from people walking around us. hope they make a another movie i would love to see it as well.
