it is very good movie. 100% reality is shown. no modification or changes are done in movie. i m a native from kanpur and i had faced the same problem that is shown in the movie.all the roles are played by real characters. In a city with 15 hour power cuts, hundreds of people risk their lives to steal electricity. With the first female chief of the electricity company vowing to eliminate all illegal connections, the lines are drawn for a battle over electricity. - , India, an electricity thief provides Robin Hood style services to the poor in the face of day long power-cuts. Meanwhile the first female chief of the local electricity supply company has vowed to put an end to all illegal connections, for good. In a summer of crisis, both come to terms with India's energy poverty -
Uttar Pradesh probably is the only state in India which has has more than 32 large and small rivers ranging from the Ganges till Yamuna. Kanpur, being one of the city in Uttar Pradesh, is the largest industrial centre of UP with maximum electric theft being undertaken.
Katiyabaaz tells the story of a electrician who steals the electricity for other people with help of illegal wire in the city of Kanpur.
Directed by Deepti Kakkar and Fahad Mustafa, Katiyabaaz is a realistic drama which is hair-raising and will give you goosebumps. It would have been hard to capture each moments accurately and completely and salute should be given to the director-duo for presenting such a current situation of Kanpur with aplomb. It is perfectly blended with hard- hitting drama of battle between electricity officials and politicians. Hats-off to Art direction and cinematography capture the true state of Kanpur. Background score by Indian Oceans gels well with the mood of the film.
Overall, the drama should be lauded and appreciated for its ground- reality. Excellent 4/5

I loved it whatever it is. When i started to watch this, i was thinking that
in last some incident would happen to give the movie a conclusive farewell, there was none. There was no casting done for this, they just depicted the local people to act and for talking.
But on the second hand.. Emotion was shown between a mother and his child. While drinking, Loha singh resisted that he is not harami.
Ritu Maheshwari part was totally documentary while Irfan solanki part has tried to show some drama of politics.
So i would say , its a documentary for 60 minutes and drama for 10 minutes. And the director put only facts for showing the ground reality of power cuts in India.
It shows how a man becomes a hero while helping someone for illegal means And ineffectiveness of a IAS officer even when she is willing to change the system.
So if you have a bug of looking for new things, go for it.

First, let me specify that I belong to the city of Kanpur - which is shown in this documentary. And, there is no doubt that the creators have shown a very realistic view of the situation here. I found no manipulation whatsoever. A brutal and honest presentation with clear-cut precision. 10/10 on that.
Obviously, I belong to the city shown in the documentary, so it had to have a special value for me. But still, I think that it has a bigger entertainment value for those who belong to the northern belt of India. Not that it is meaningless for the rest. It is very informative and has a value as a documentary obviously, otherwise it would not have been nominated for and won some of the prestigious awards(see awards section)
Apart from above, what is really appreciable is that creators have shown differing viewpoints in a situation crisis, in a perfectly impartial way, without being prone to adopt and support a specific side/view, especially in a deceitful and manipulative fashion(which I have seen countless times in many other famous documentaries). This has special value as this encourages a meaningful thought in the minds of readers as they question some things and ask themselves some relevant questions.
Many scenes were shot live and this again is special as there are very few documentaries which show live feed, that too so much successfully.
What I found lacking was objective information. The documentary is indeed informative but it touches more so on the human/emotional side and does not offer much objective data/information, which is why at the end it probably keeps viewers filled with emotions but seems to be incomplete in some respects.
Overall 9/10.

If you like watching documentaries, or even if you don't, you will thank yourself for deciding to watch this. On the real life story of electricity deprivation, power theft, honest administrator, powerful politician - with real characters, this must be one of the best-made Indian documentary film ever! It contains a number of themes: socio-politico-economical balance, systems thinking, change management, even purpose of life! The city of Kanpur has been shot very ably and provides a perfect backdrop for the rot of civilisation post an economic downturn. A lot of questions this movie generates in your mind... and thankfully doesn't try and answer any of them! For the answers aren't to be found in a movie, but created by us.
