    It's So Fake

They had a couple on that supposedly had kids and they were looking at a $599k home. They were barely 20-ish. There's no way they could afford a $600k home unless they were famous, which they weren't. They use actors as buyers.

    Fun Show

I love this show. Glimpses of amazing Alaska and amusing couples looking for a "second home" make the show worth watching. I didn't notice the guitars, etc. I am almost ready to move to Alaska...until I hear about the snow and the only way into some of the towns during winter is by plane or snowmobile only. Unfortunately, it looks like Discover/Destination America has chosen not to renew the show. Too bad. I enjoyed the peek into the homes. But, I must thank the originators of the show, I learned a lot. Who knew that you had to tighten up a log home. Alaska is one gorgeous place. And this show really shows that off. Highly enjoyable.

One of these realtors is an absolute clown.

'I do not like our current place, which has no bathroom.'

Idiot Realtor: ' There are plenty of properties with bathrooms, but here are three with none. And also, how about a property where you need to maintain 500 ft of decking through 25 Alaskan winters?'

    Buying Alaska - Real buyers?

Thank ya all for your information on it not being "reality". I guessed this as they are so expensive and I had to wonder how some of these people afford $200,000 plus homes. I also questioned buyers choosing one, when as another viewer said, there is usually only one that comes close to their needs. I would say thanks and keep looking! I also wondered about schooling for children and the travel to schools but since it isn't real, that solves that question. Still interesting as I love seeing the scenery and looking at the houses. I live in Texas and enjoy learning about Alaska but don't think we will be moving there anytime soon. I like guessing which one they will "buy". Wish it was "real" but today, what really is?

Rotting Wooden Homes in the middle of nowhere?

I watched a couple of these shows featuring nasty looking old wooden homes next to watery mudslides, and I was amazed anyone has the gall to film this garbage. More shocking were the prices, which were all above $420,000 for places that would likely be condemned in any major city.

When they showed the first wooden home, it looked like a barn. The big selling point is that you can see seals and whales in the water. So what? That would get really boring after a couple of weeks. Meanwhile, these nasty houses are in the middle of the sticks, and you have to climb up and down stairs and trails to bring the groceries into the home.

None of the probable issues relating to these rotting homes was ever addressed. I expected the homes to be around $100,000 based on the horrible conditions. As a buyer, when the host says $495K, a logical question would be, "Who is paying to fix the foundation, and to divert the stream that is going by the side of the house and destroying the foundation? None of the obvious issues are addressed. The buyers just walk in and shill for these homes, like Snow White at Disney World.
