Colin Farrell is in talks to star in in Luca Guadagnino’s “Sgt. Rock” movie at DC Studios, according to an insider with knowledge of the project.

The script is written by Justin Kuritzkes, who previously wrote “Challengers” and “Queer” for Guadagnino. The film is expected to be a period piece set during World War II.

Sgt. Rock is one of DC Comics’ most famous military characters and is the leader of Easy Company. Created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, he first appeared in 1959’s “Our Army at War” before getting his own series in 1977 that ran for 11 years.

Daniel Craig was previously circling the role, but never got an offer according to DC Studio chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran. DC Studios is planning to shoot the movie this summer in the United Kingdom.

The move comes after Daniel Craig, who circled the feature project, officially stepped away and is now entertaining a role in Greta Gerwig and Netflix’s take on Narnia. No offer was ever made to Craig, DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran said in February. At the time, they said the project would shoot this summer “only if we find the perfect actor.”

The move indeed puts Rock on track for a shoot this summer in DC Studios’ production hub in England.

Our recent review of “Opus” may very well leave some of you looking to a list ranking the “best A24 movies” as a sweet bout of hypocrisy; the fandom surrounding the distributor has been well-documented and thoroughly lambasted, so what purpose is served exactly by compiling a list of the best films that just so happen to have been acquired by a specific group of New York millennials tapped into meme culture? In examining the films that have garnered the studio such status, though, it’s not impossible to envision certain patterns in these independent features that might have attracted those millennials to acquire these films in the first place—in essence, while there is no such thing as a style defined in an “A24 film,” there is certainly a particular breed of audacious art films that the studio prefers to platform with all their savvy marketing magic, to the mutual benefit of all involved.

With movie awards season over, and rumors that Adrian Brody’s Oscar acceptance speech is finally coming to an end, the year 2025 sees a surprising amount of faces coming straight back into the conversation. For one, Zoe Saldaña will be putting her Supporting Actress Oscar to good use on the publicity trail for one of the biggest tentpoles of the year: James Cameron’s Fire and Ash, the third in the Avatar series, in which she reprises her role as Na’vi princess Neytiri.

DC Studios has confirmed that a Sgt. Rock movie is in the works for the DC Universe. The confirmation came after studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran were asked about Daniel Craig's departure from the World War II movie.

Per Variety, Gunn and Safran recently held a press event for DC Studios' upcoming film and television slate. When the topic of Craig exiting Sgt. Rock came up; Safran clarified that the James Bond actor "was never attached" to the movie, so he couldn't have dropped out. The DC head went on to explain that the actor had merely been floated as a possible candidate for the role due to having just appeared in Sgt. Rock director Luca Guadagnino's previous film, Queer. "But, you know, we never met with Daniel. He was just an idea," Safran said, with Gunn adding, "Well, we never really even announced Sgt. Rock.

The 31st annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG) is coming up this Sunday, and there’s a lot of films, TV shows and stars getting their shine.

It’s all going down Sunday night, live from the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles. This will be Netflix’s second go at airing the prestigious awards ceremony, as well as the second time Kristen Bell, the SAG Award’s first-ever host, will guide the event.

One of the biggest moments of the night will be Jane Fonda receiving the union’s highest honor: the SAG Life Achievement Awards.

Silent House Productions will return to produce the 31st annual ceremony. Jon Brockett, along with Silent House Productions’ Emmy winners Baz Halpin, Mark Bracco and Linda Gierahn, will serve as executive producers.

Sunday’s 31st Screen Actors Guild Awards saw several of this year’s key competitors face off one last time before the Academy Awards on March 2 and the ceremony delivered more than a few surprises. Perhaps none was more significant than Timothée Chalamet winning Best Actor for his turn as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown in an upset over the awards-season favorite, The Brutalist star Adrien Brody. Chalamet won his first major awards precursor for his transformational performance as Bob Dylan in James Mangold’s biopic “A Complete Unknown.”

“I know we’re in a subjective business, but the truth is, I’m really in pursuit of greatness,” Chalamet said while accepting his award. “I know people don’t usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats. I’m inspired by the greats. I’m inspired by the greats here tonight. I’m as inspired by Daniel Day Lewis, Marlon Brando and Viola Davis as I am by Michael Jordan, Michael Phelps, and I want to be up there. So I’m deeply grateful. The 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards are underway Sunday night, one week before the Oscars crown its winners.

Universal’s Broadway adaptation “Wicked” and FX/Hulu’s Japanese drama “Shogun” led the film and TV categories with five nominations each at the SAG Awards. Tying for the most film nominations in SAG history, “Wicked” earned nods for its cast, best actress for Cynthia Erivo, supporting actress for Ariana Grande, supporting actor for Jonathan Bailey and for its stunts. “Shogun” is up for performance by an ensemble in a drama series, plus nods for Hiroyuki Sanada, Tadanobu Asano, Anna Sawai and the stunt group.

Max has revealed the full list of featured programming coming to the streaming service in March 2025. Among the highlights are the arrival of a trio of A24 films: Heretic, the psychological horror film in which Hugh Grant terrorizes two missionaries who knock on his door; Sing Sing, the acclaimed drama about a group of incarcerated men who put on their own theatrical production; and Queer, Luca Guadagnino’s adaption of the William S. Burroughs’ novella of the same name.

This month will also see the premiere of the final season of The Righteous Gemstones, a new documentary on the Boston Celtics, titled, Celtics City, and the premiere of Paul American, a new reality series starring Jake and Logan Paul.

It looks like Daniel Craig‘s reunion with “Queer” director Luca Guadagnino won’t be happening; at least not on “Sgt. Rock,” at least. Variety reports that the ex-James Bond actor isn’t involved in Guadagnino’s upcoming Dcu project. The news follows up on a report from last November with Craig attached to the Sgt. Rock role, but apparently, the actor never formally committed to the film.

According to a new report this morning, Daniel Craig has suddenly departed Luca Guadagnino’s Sgt Rock project in the midst of pre-production. Craig’s exit leaves the film without a star to take on the role of of the title character, with the production set to go before cameras this summer.

The news comes via The Hollywood Reporter, with the outlet adding that no reason has been given for Daniel Craig’s sudden departure. It does state that ‘scheduling of both himself and his wife Rachel Weisz appears to be one of the causes’ while alternative sources in the story claim that Craig ‘soured on the role’ after Queer, his recent collaboration with Guadagnino, didn’t turn into a critically-garlanded success.
