Pleased to Meet Me (2013)
Rocker Pete Jones (legendary “X” front man John Doe) is in trouble. He’s solo in his personal and professional life and he can’t seem to finish his long-awaited album. Threatened with bankruptcy and a lawsuit from his label, Pete turns to his lost love and former producer turned radio reporter Laura Klein (Academy Award® nominee Aimee Mann) for help. Together, they form an eclectic group of musicians who have never met to create a band, for one day and one day only.

Their 24-hour experiment will be recorded by Laura for the syndicated radio show “World Café” and provide her an opportunity to establish a life out from under Pete’s shadow. For Pete, it’s a chance to re-mix his personal and creative life, provided he can get his ego out of the way. For the unknown band, it’s a time to see if they have what it takes to realize, or say goodbye to, the dream of making it in the music business.

Picked by more than a million listeners as one of the best segments ever to air on Public Radio InternationalÂ’s syndicated line-up, Pleased to Meet Me is a funny, unexpected look into the unrealized dreams and possibilities of artists everywhere.

    Good Little Flick

You may not know him by name, but chances are you will recognize the star of this film, John Doe, who's been grazing major Hollywood productions on film and television in supporting roles going back to his part as rocker Jerry Lee Lewis's cousin-turned-father-in-law in '89's "Great Balls of Fire". In this good little indie flick, he takes the starring role. Haven been front man for the group "X", he uses his musical talent to fuel this character, also participating in the music for the film.

And O-M-G!- that sexy voice kept sticking out at me, and I noticed her name in the cast, but it took me til the end of the film to realize THAT is Aimee Mann, of the '80s group Til Tuesday! The only other thing I can ever think of her acting in was that little part as that nihilist who contributes her toe in "The Big Lebowski"..?? LOL

Well, anyway, I enjoyed the performances, and the music- and the philosophy and collaborative effort that goes into creating a studio recording. The one scene says it best- when Mann says to Doe something like- you enjoy this part the best (time in the studio creating the project, rather than the finished project itself...).

    • Trivia
When Terrence (Joe Henry) remarks to Pete (John Doe) that the song Duncan (Adam Kramer) plays is "a good song...the kids' done his homework," it is an inside joke; the song was actually written by Joe Henry.
