It appears the Austrailians are every bit as good at crafting entertaining mysteries as their as their English cousins. A case in point is "Mr & Mrs Murder", a light-hearted Austrailian cozy mystery originally aired in 2013. Shaun Micallef plays Charlie Buchanan and Kat Stewart plays his wife Nicola. Together they operate a crime scene cleaning service, making them ideally suited for finding evidence and clues overlooked by the police. Micallef and Stewart imbue their characters with enough quirks and foibles that makes them entertaining and just slightly over-the-top. My wife and I have viewed this series many times and find something new and enjoyable with each viewing. Highly recommended!
I really enjoy this show and give it 8.5/10. It's just not predictable, well-acted, tight editing & camera work and a great script.
To start with I had low expectations as the promo was lame and the leader actor "Shaun Micallef" I felt would never be able to hold together an hour show, as I had seen him prior as a comedy compare. As it happens the series was written by Shaun & Jason Stephens and they have done a great job well at least until episode 4 "Atlas Drugged" which is when I typed this.
To put it simply this is a truly original spin on the murder-cop show genre in which the plot whilst still clever is really a simple elevator to the clever & subtle humour, derived from delightfully timed lines and fresh comedy writing. Watch it, this is a good show and there are so few on free to air!!

As a fan of the 'who dun it 'genre I love this show , from the groovy credits and music to the locations and story lines. Shaun is a genius. I love how they play the characters and how the stories unfold . Especially the quirky humor in the 1st episode with their mate in the wheelchair who seemed to know a lot more about murder than was healthy to know. Melbourne seems to be a great location for these plots to play out. I do hope the characters will have to travel for work and more cases so we can see more of Victoria. By and large I haven't liked any other Australia productions since the 80's comedy scene. Keep 'em coming' I say !
Half-way through the DVD set I had to stop and sing the praises of Mr. & Mrs. Murder. It's a big shame this series is one-season show. I'm a big fan of "who dun its" and find myself much more entertained by mysteries and crime dramas produced in countries other than the U.S. This show is a delight, from its two lead characters to its unique murder cases to its location shots of Australia.
Thank goodness I have the DVDs as I've been able to pause them to recover from laughing out loud and not miss any of the story or other lines. In the tradition of The Thin Man movies, we have a devoted Mr. & Mrs. who have a great relationship, so we're not subjected to season after season of that boring formula of "will they or won't they" when you know they always will. It's a relief to be spared this malarkey and, instead, see a couple who already have got it right. The murder cases revolve around unusual methods and atypical victims and suspects, bringing a fresh challenge to the viewer.
One might think a rating of 9 out of 10 is excessive for a lighthearted show, but the humor, mysteries, and stellar crafting of the lead roles makes this fantastic escapist TV. It's such a disappointment that there's only one season of it.

Mr & Mrs Murder not only clean crime scenes but also solve crimes with their very bright witty ways. I love the opening credits (music and graphics) - reminds me of the droll 1960s British Avengers, but done with with mops and hazmat suits - wonderful in every way. I read somewhere that the one and only Series ended due to the leading man's flagging energy (he was in his 60s at the time and appeared in almost every scene). Wish this show could be continued with the wonderful qualities that make it so enjoyable. I discovered it on Acorn TV (USA).
