The Ultimate History Lesson: A Weekend with John Taylor Gatto (2012)
5 min sample clip: The Ultimate History Lesson is a 5-hour journey examining the history, root-causes, and consequences of public schooling. Former New York City and New York State School Teacher of the Year, John Taylor Gatto, illustrates HOW and WHY our public schools are dumbing us down... and what We can do about it. With more than 200 footnotes, and more than 30 classic texts referenced; this 5-hour interview session, memorializing John's research, publications, and life experiences, forms an impeccable family resource and reference library of The Underground History of American Education and its effects on 21st Century America. Each hour focuses on examining the evolution of ideas, which manifest today in the phenomenon of public schooling. By dissecting the history and presenting you with the references, you're left at the end of each hour, with a copious amount of information to digest; from which you can continue your own personal journey of discovery. This interview also includes solutions, documents, and references; asking only that you consider the information - THINK FOR YOURSELF - and communicate with others in order to share a higher-level of awareness. This presentation is offered as a public service thanks to the generosity of the subscribers of the Tragedy and Hope online community, which is an international research and study group, composed of individuals who have screened our productions, and seek to take the next-steps in enacting strategic solutions.

    Truly Empowering

This interview is outstanding, it covers copious amounts of information that is truly empowering. It takes the time to explain the Who, What, When, Where, Why and How in an interesting way which is insightful and meaningful.

It is best viewed in 1 hour segments as the volume of cognitive stimulation it generates is tremendous. It is truly worth the time you spend reviewing it as it provides useful tools to generate new meaningful understandings of how and why things are the way they are today.

It further explains how to empower yourself with intellectual self- defense which allows life long satisfaction to be obtained. In simple terms the ideas discussed throughout the interview have practical implications of substantial value. John says this information is your birth right and I agree.

I am so happy I can say I helped fund this project and helped the tragedy and hope team provide such an empowering interview. This is the type of independent media, I feel more people should support.

Time well spent listening to a masterful speaker and teacher

One of the most important pieces of educational media available. John Gatto has a brilliant mind which allows him to remember vast amounts of information learned from decades of research. He then combines all related facts into coherent insights. Connecting the dots, John shares a rich story of our (untaught) history as it relates primarily to "education". You will find that the history of our compulsory schooling system is intimately intertwined with the histories of Philosophy, Industrialization, Endowments, Management of independent units, Socialization, Freedom/Liberty (or lack thereof), etc. This information, as John himself proclaims, is our "birthright". The film provides a coherent picture of the untold history of our culture, enabling us to understand more clearly who we are and how we got here. I have watched and listened to this documentary multiple times. Given the substantial number of references within, one viewing is not enough to grasp the full depth of this amazing and surprising story.

    Amazing Man, Amazing Life....

This movie changed My Life. It not only tells us who the Elite are, it tells us "why" they feel the need to control us like cattle. The Elite spend billions of $$ every year to make sure we aren't spiritually awakened. This amazing man's life tells how he found out the harm he was causing in the Public Schooling System, and what changes he made to truly "help" kids. Following in the footsteps of Ezra Pound, Eustace Mullins, and Anthony Sutton, John Taylor Gatto a Legend gets to tell the "Real" History of Us.. Mankind.

Props, Bravo to the Tragedy & Hope Gang for getting JTG on film, For The Record.

    An Awakening Experience

The Ultimate History Lesson with John Taylor Gatto was an incredible immersion into the history of Education as well as the histories of the systems that nurtured, and today sustain, this evil indoctrination system we call "Education". I would recommend this show to anyone who, like me, though smart, felt incompetent after high school and always wondered what the problem was. It was by design to create "workers, not thinkers." I would also recommend buying Gatto's book "The Underground History of American Education." It, like this program, is a wealth of information that one can't help but dive deeper into. I also highly recommend the company Tragedy and Hope who created this program. I've been listening to their podcast for a couple of years now and the information and clarity I've gained from their efforts is irreplaceable.

Gatto supplies the puzzle pieces that public schooling leaves out

John Taylor Gatto's whiskey tinged Pennsylvania drawl had me hooked within minutes, and the first hour just flew by. The information he lays out is very dense, but I found him to be an amazing storyteller who was able to tie it all together in one cogent, entertaining package that left me pining for more.

Be forewarned - you're quite likely going to want to spend lots of time watching, re-watching, and then researching what he lays out here. The investment you make will truly open your eyes to many things that have been hidden from us for so long by the public school system. Because he delivers this information from a position of love rather than fear, the freeing effect on your mind is something not be missed.

    Brilliant stuff, T&H!

One last thing... John suffered a series of major strokes not long after the production of this film. There are ways to help his recovery on the T&H website. Please do whatever you can to support this true American hero!
