Astonishing

It's not often a program knocks you for six like this one. It starts off way back in time but has constant links to the present day.

I'm on my third watch through now and still discovering new things. Sure, a lot of it is talking heads but there's also performances, readings and reminiscences.

The cast of experts, artists, actors and writers brings the whole thing to life. It's familiar but new at the same time.

You've seen things like this before but this is so well done that you don't mind.

I'm reminded of watching repeats of Top of the Pops where you watch regardless of what's on and revel in the acts you love.

It seems this series has gone slightly under the radar but it's honestly the best thing the BBC has done in years.
