Recently, Viz Media announced its acquisition of the arc's official light novel sequel, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Purple Smoke Distortion.

Purple Smoke Distortion is written by Japanese author Kohei Kadono, who bases the story on an original concept developed by Araki. Initially published in Japan on Sept. 16, 2011, the novel is finally receiving an official English translation by Viz. As detailed on X (formerly Twitter), Purple Smoke Distortion's narrative is set directly after Golden Wind and revolves primarily around Pannacotta Fugo, a former member of the Passione crime organization. In addition to spotlighting the new volume on social media, Viz Media has also made it available to pre-order on Amazon for approximately US$28.00 (tax not included). According to the listing, the title's official release is scheduled for Apr.

Per Toei Animation's latest annual securities report, covering the fiscal period from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, the average annual salary for a Toei Animation employee is 8,273,416 yen as of March 31, 2025. The figure marks a slight increase from the 8,131,481 yen reported in the previous fiscal year. The report also revealed that the company has 696 employees, with the majority of these (578) working in video production and sales. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure's live-action spinoff, Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan, has upset more than a few fans with the reveal that its newest project, the movie At A Confessional, extensively used AI to create the soundtrack. The reveal ignited a major controversy among fans, with some Japanese moviegoers threatening to boycott the film.

At A Confessional is a film adaptation of the first chapter of Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan, based on the spinoff anthology manga by Hirohiko Araki starring Jojo's Bizarre Adventure's Rohan. The film had been highly anticipated by fans of the live action series, which had been drawing from other chapters of the series for its content. Given that it's a live-action production, one would think the risk of AI getting involved would be unlikely, but that's unfortunately not been the case. As it turns out, the film's composer, Naruyoshi Kikuchi, proudly announced that he "did not compose a single piece.

It isn’t very often you hear about a director clashing with a composer in the anime industry. They complement each other’s styles and make a masterpiece. Just see how brilliantly Joe Hisaishi works with Studio Ghibli’s Hayao Miyazaki. However, the composer of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure broke this pattern.

Naruyoshi Kikuchi, who often worked on JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure as a composer, confessed to using artificial intelligence for his songs in the live-action spin-off film, Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan: At a Confessional. He did not feel shame, however. He was proud of using AI in his craft.

This is a pretty big deviation from how Hirohiko Araki, the creator of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, feels about AI. He didn’t just condemn those who use it, he labeled them fraudsters. Knowing how strongly the mangaka feels about it, Kikuchi still took the risk and used AI in his compositions for At a Confessional.

Naruyoshi Kikuchi, a composer who worked on Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, boasted about using AI to produce a soundtrack for one of the franchise's prominent releases. Series creator Hirohiko Araki previously condemned the controversial tech, equating those who use it as "con artists."

According to JoJo's Bizarre Encyclopedia, Kikuchi proudly admitted using AI to compose the soundtrack for Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan: At a Confessional on X (formerly Twitter). "This is the first original soundtrack in the history of global entertainment films in which all tracks were composed by AI," Kikuchi said. "We at the Shin-on-gak Production Studio have combined all our strength and worked at full throttle to dedicate terrifyingly solemn compositions to this work. Calling it a colorful adventure series is the best way to describe JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. However, a single genre or category can’t capture everything JoJo has to offer. Initially, the publishers of the manga were against the horror concept, but Hirohiko Araki still decided to move forward with it. The mangaka shared this during an interview. If it wasn’t for the horror, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure would not have been much different from other shonen series.
