    Best Muslim Comedy Ever!

As a Muslim and a Middle Eastern, I found this series to be absolutely hilarious and hits on common stereotypical behavior of Pakistanis and Muslims in general. I did not find it to be offensive at all. I love all the characters in the show. Basically the only negative thing about this show is that there are only a few episodes per season. They seriously should produce more episodes and I think it will be very popular amongst Muslim and Middle Eastern audiences. I don't see a problem why this show would not be popular amongst non-Muslim audiences. Not only does it introduce the people in a comic and light manner, but it is the first show I have ever seen that humanizes Muslims.

Oh come on, it's kinda funny...

It's just a comedy! Don't take it so seriously! Chillax!

Have really enjoyed watching all 5 episodes till now. It's not perfect and yes, it's very stereotypical, aged, and poorly acted. Yes, the Somalian guy's accent is travelling from West Africa eastwards in each episode. Yes the canned laughter is OTT.

But it's a comedy nevertheless and one of very few south Asian comedies to be broadcast. I don't think its depiction of the religion is that bad and actually quite inclusive. The jokes shouldn't be taken personally - I certainly don't feel humiliated or offended because it's just a comedy... and it's so true... :)

For those who find it 'unfunny' or 'didn't laugh' well, go watch something else. Sheesh!

    Adil can save it.

I think Adil Ray has something - you have to like him. Whether this is the vehicle for his talents is another question. It has an incredibly dated feel and seems like a leftover from the 1970's. Chris Marshall is very out of place in this, mind you he was in the dreadful My Family so even this must be a step up for him. How anyone can get themselves in a lather about a poorly conceived sitcom as many Muslims have is beyond me. It really is not worth it. Maybe the whole thing is going to get better when it has settled in but I doubt it. There are several things it has going for it - Adil Ray for one and the premise is good even if the execution needs work. Watch this space.

    Dated garbage

This sitcom is possibly more damaging for the image of the Muslim population than an ISIS propaganda video. If it had been made in 1972 it might have had some credence and raise some genuine laughs. However this is 2014 and this show is about as relevant as Gilbert o'Sullivan making a comeback and Billy Bremner being voted Sports Personality of the year.

Why did the BBC ever commission this genuine piece of ordure? I would like to know their reasoning seeing as though I was paid a visit by a TV licencing representative last week to see why I hadn't paid my fees. If I showed this "comedy" in court as to why I'm reluctant to do so, I'm quite sure the judge would side with me and grant me special dispensation and award me damages from the Beeb for insulting my intelligence and causing me unnecessary suffering.

Makes "Mrs Brown" seem like cutting edge, intellectual, comedy gold!

better than some of the reviews say

i liked citizen khan and i think the first 2 episodes have been quite promising.

Adil Ray is brilliant as Mr Khan and made me laugh with his one liners and the way he parks his car on the drive and the way he thinks he is more important than he actually is.

Episode 1 was good as it introduced you to the Khan's.

Episode 2 was even better when Mr Khan's mother in law went to the house.

Citizen Khan is certainly not as bad as some of the reviews say and i think the series will get better and will make me laugh even more

    • Trivia
The show is set in Sparkhill, Birmingham, but since the closure of BBC Pebble Mill in 2004 there are no longer any suitable TV studios in Birmingham, so the show is recorded at the BBC's new Media City studios in Salford, Greater Manchester. However, creator and star Adil Ray insists that some location filming is done in Birmingham for each series.
