Igual si llueve

Agustín, a preteen, lives in an average house in one of the generic small towns in the plains of Buenos Aires province (the filming was done in Arrecifes, 200km northwest of Buenos Aires). He is the principal caregiver for his seriously ill, bedridden grandmother. His mother is mostly absent, presumably at work. The house is up for sale which introduces an element of uncertainty.

The time is the end of the school year, and the rest of the movie is an excursion to a nearby stream with a friend from school. We sense that this trip is a refuge for Agustín from the somber reality he faces daily. Agustín and his friend have agreed that the excursion will be undertaken even if it rains (igual si llueve). In fact rain is announced on TV and the friends are caught in a sudden downpour that forces them to take refuge in an abandoned building. At the end, Agustín is back home and his obligations take over.

This is it. There is no plot to speak of. There are no revelations, no character development, no mysteries solved, no references to the past or future. What we see is exactly what we get. Nevertheless I was caught into the tale for the (short) duration of the movie. There are echoes of some stories of Raymond Carver where we are witness of the everyday and commonplace. The end result is an unusual but fascinating movie. Most of the actors are nonprofessionals and list this movie as their only credit.

Easy to love it for its freshness and simplicity. Its source - the gentle perspective about end of childhood, liberty, friendship, stories and riddles, fascination about a lonely singer, love story on Facebook and fishes, the sick old grandma and the life of mother,taste of adventure, pure joys and so familiar dialogues.

A film to remind , beautiful for acting and cinematography and emotion, fair translated, specific to an unique age.
