I just found this show on Hulu and I am now on ep 2. I like the brothers. I even like it in ep 1 where the brother got upset, and apologized. To me that felt real and seeing him apologize was so welcomed. It felt real and heartfelt.
Ep 2. Megan, wow well ok she has a nasty temper when she makes mistakes. The sad thing is she doesn't apologize. Or for whatever reason the show didn't show it. All it kept showing was her mad dogging everyone with hostile glares and ill tempered words. She was not encouraging nor apologetic for any mistakes she made. Come on Megan your representing women out here. Its not looking good at all. Laugh at your own mistakes, own them, do better going forward.
I like the brothers but Megan I do not like in this current state. Just to hostile and throws the show way off balance with her negativity. I like home make over shows, especially when helping the poor but a nicer title instead of hideous houses would be nice too. These are places where people live and love. Please interview your main cast when choosing, we do not need to see more hostile people unaccountable for any of their actions on tv. I can get that from people next door.
I would watch the brothers again. Since the men seemed so accountable and really into what they were doing. I rated it on the brothers alone.

The contractors and designer are the hideous part of the show. They basically shame people for being poor and not able to improve their homes. They decided to have people fight on television to obviously ramp up the "pressure" and entertainment value. It wasn't entertaining, it was horrible and stress inducing for all of the wrong reasons.
I hate the fake interactions on most of these shows but this one really takes the cake. They honestly don't appear to know what they are doing. And don't get me started on the "designs." If I could have left a review with negative stars I would. Someone please make that a thing.
This is probably the reason Sears went out of business.

The acting was noticeably bad, with over-the-top performances that made the arguments feel forced and fake, rather than adding any real excitement. It was hard to believe any of the conflicts were genuine, just unnecessary.
The timeline for the renovations was completely unrealistic. There's no way they planned, shopped for materials, and completed the entire job in just four days. The show's portrayal of the process was misleading and detracted from its credibility.
Moreover, labeling a perfectly fine house as "hideous" simply because it was cluttered felt disingenuous. While the remodeling did help, it was clear that the real issue was cleanliness, not the home's structure or design. A good decluttering session could have made a significant difference without the need for such dramatic interventions.
Show fails to deliver wayyy too heavily on contrived drama and unrealistic scenarios.

Watching this show today on HBO and I am honestly a little stunned. First off, it's mean. The whole idea is to find a house in poor condition and fix it up, but what they're really finding is poor people with homes in disrepair. And then they proceed to call their homes "hideous!" over and over. They put a whopping 20k into making repairs over four days by what I am convinced is the dumbest contractor and the WORST designer I have ever seen on TV and try to sell it as entertainment. I have sat through 3 episodes now thinking "this has GOT to get better," but it never does. I will say it did make me laugh a few times, mostly at how awkward the whole thing is, and for those laughs I gave it two stars.
I don't know who lied to Meagan and told her she is a world class designer. Her design style is hideous. At least they aren't lying about the shows name. She uses a pish posh of paints and colors for such small houses. These houses are so small she shouldn't be using more then two colors in the interior for walls and trims combined. Color should be incorporated in the furniture, pillows, curtains. So far I have seen an array of tacky colors all over the walls at the end of each project, peach, blue, vanilla, lavender, lime green, yellow, ugh and yellow lamp shades, gray curtains with white prints, red pillows, gross, brown and black furniture and every other color you can think of under one roof. Heard her say once that a carpet was "hotely". I'm surprised she said that, since (in my opinion) hotel is her style. She's short tempered, barks at the rest of the cast for her design mistakes and her delays. Her attitude is a real downer...not entertainment. I like watching home shows on HGTV for relaxation, not for an anxiety, stress induced, experience that raises my blood pressure. I really dislike this show, the designer, and feel sorry for the people that win a makeover.
