    Layover

Suzanne is extremely wealthy and even more obnoxious. Unable to fly by private plane she is forced to travel on a commercial flight with the great unwashed, and even worse, to break her journey at Detroit due to bad weather. Unable to find a five star hotel, she ends up staying at a downmarket joint and is kidnapped almost by accident when she interrupts two Russian dudes who are beating up a woman; Suzanne thinks they are simply having "rough sex".

Her kidnappers are latter day white slavers - sex traffickers in modern parlance - and although she is too old to for their clients, when they realise who she is, they hold her to ransom instead.

"Layover" is probably best described as a comedy thriller, one that sees a spoilt little rich woman transformed into a decent human being by saving her fellow captives from a fate worse than death.

    Not Quite First Class

Good evening, everyone! I'm Mr. C Reviewer, and tonight we'll be diving into the film Layover also known as Abducted. I had the opportunity to watch the movie on Fawesome. This movie originally premiered on October 12, 2012, and has a runtime of 1 hour and 31 minutes. It is rated for viewers aged 14 and older. Notably, parts of the film were filmed in California, USA. Being on the autism spectrum, I found it somewhat challenging to fully engage with the movie because it lacked subtitles; however, there were audio subtitles displayed on screen for parts that were not spoken in English. The film was directed by Richard Schenkman and written by Naomi L. Selfman.

Summary: The heir to a renowned hotel dynasty finds herself trapped in a terrifying abduction at a rundown motel on the fringes of Detroit. Captured by a ruthless syndicate of sex traffickers, she confronts unspeakable danger. Meanwhile, her devoted assistant, fueled by desperation and unwavering loyalty, embarks on a bold quest to rescue her

Review: -The opening scene effectively establishes a suspenseful atmosphere surrounding the theme of sex trafficking. While I found it fairly good, there is certainly room for improvement. I appreciate how we are introduced to Suzanne and her assistant in the following scene, which allows us to learn more about their personalities before Suzanne's kidnapping takes place at approximately 16 minutes into the film-a timing I consider suitable for such an event. However, I believe this segment could have been slightly shorter. I appreciated how the film critically examined issues of wealth and privilege, raising awareness about sex trafficking, empowerment through adversity, female solidarity, moral ambiguity among characters, and highlighting consequences for inaction The film initially unfolds at a leisurely pace, taking its time to establish both the characters and the premise, which can make certain segments feel prolonged. There are moments of heightened tension that are frequently followed by sudden transitions to less intense scenes, disrupting the overall narrative flow. However, I appreciated that the pacing began to pick up as it neared its climax. I appreciated the casting choices for the movie, finding them generally satisfactory; however, I felt that some performances occasionally lacked depth and believability. At other times, while the acting was decent, it did not reach remarkable heights. The soundtrack and sound effects significantly heightened the tension during pivotal scenes; while I believe there was room for improvement, they ultimately served their purpose well.

-I believe that the costume for the FBI agent could have been enhanced; the gear they were holding and wearing appeared to lack a certain level of quality, which detracted from its overall authenticity. I admired the cinematography, which employed a rich variety of shot types to significantly enhance the narrative. I particularly appreciated how the camera circled around the characters during their plotting scenes, intensifying the atmosphere and drawing viewers deeper into their predicament. The gentle lighting established a nuanced atmosphere that I found appealing; however, while all the essential elements in each frame were distinctly visible, some parts could have benefited from additional brightness. Personally, I often adjust my screen's brightness for a better viewing experience, which proved particularly helpful during this film.

-I found several aspects of the movie to be somewhat predictable; however, the twist near the conclusion felt authentic given the circumstances. While I anticipated the ending, I valued the resolution it offered. Overall, while it was satisfactory, I wouldn't consider it outstanding.

I rate each film I watch out of 10 and for this one, I give it a 5 Remember this was what I thought about the movie personally and I suggest that you give it a go for yourself.

Movies Don't Come Any Worse Than This Dog

02/03/2019 Crumb bum pretend actors including Lauren Holly. Fantasy abduction storyline about as lame as they can get. This is a terrible movie. Do NOT bother, find anything else. Bon Appetit

    A little underrated.

Yes I will give it a 6 as which in my rating system is not to bad for a low budget direct to TV movie. Many big budget glitzy Hollywood move don't get a six in my world. Layover is worth of a watch if you're bored, yes it has a corny plot with B grade acting from B grade actors with B grade cinematography and B grade sets but worth the watch, remember only if you're bored.

    Surprisingly I liked it

The idea for Abducted aka Layover intrigued me and I like thrillers. I was dubious though because it was from The Asylum, who have a notoriety for bad movies. But I am glad I saw Layover because while not a great movie it was a good one. Maybe the pace could have been tighter, for me some of the middle dragged a little. The dialogue, while leagues above the dialogue for many other Asylum movies having some tension and focus, could have done with being less cheesy and predictable in places. And the movie did stretch believability a bit, not as frequently or blatantly as other Asylum efforts, but I just couldn't buy somebody being rewarded when their conduct was so incompetent. Layover does look good though, the settings and lighting are more accomplished and the camera work and editing better placed and smoother. The music and sound effects are well suited to the atmosphere without being too obtrusive or obvious. The story is not much new and but not too predictable or derivative, overall it is gripping with a suspenseful atmosphere and a fun twist. The characters didn't annoy me and served a purpose, while the direction is solid enough. And Layover is easily the best-acted Asylum movie to date and that is saying a lot. Lauren Holly is a strong lead and Kaylee DeFer is charismatic and has some great comedic chops. Joe Lando is good too if deserving of a bigger role. Overall, a surprisingly good movie. 7/10 Bethany Cox
