When a volcano appears overnight outside the hut (sorry – "village") of Uk and Ig, they realize they may be at risk so decide to find the legendary beast Pythagasaurus to help them calculate the potential impact should the volcano erupt. It seems like a clever course of action since that the Pythagasaurus is supposed to know all eight numbers and be able to add together pretty much anything you give him.
Having gotten so used to Aardman making Wallace & Gromit and similar successful films it is easy to forget that they also make adverts, promotional pieces and also short film like this one. The idea is clever from the very start as we see two cave men with the voices (and comedic timing of Bill Bailey and Martin Trenaman) go looking for a dinosaur whose body is a perfect triangle and is great at math. The short film is pretty funny considering how short it is but it works directly out of the box with a nice crude sense of humor and good delivery.
The animation is very professional and imaginative. The characters were very well designed and animated but I particularly liked the world around them, with formulae floating around as background and everything having a well-designed look. Simon Greenall completes the cast as the title character and the good delivery from all actors really helps complete the short. Very funny and well made, well worth seeking out.
