'Not your average one night stand'.
They've got that completely right. 'Contracted' is the latest feature from Eric England, the director of 2011's 'Madison County'. This is a truly disgusting body horror opus. Did it make my skin crawl? Yeah. But does that mean it's a good film? Not necessarily.
If you consider gore scary, you'll be freaked out. Hands down. I, on the other hand, was among the majority of film-goers. Grossed out but infuriated. One might ask, "Why were you infuriated?" The characters were completely irrational and unrealistic. It was a total turn-off from the film and it's interesting concept. Eric England could have taken this film into such disturbing heights with what Samantha was contracted with but instead, the film overstayed its welcome in a boring place. If the characters were more realistic, the film would have probably been much better.
The effects in the film are really well done, however. Also, I enjoyed the ending and Najarra Townsend's acting was definitely a plus. Her transformation in character was truly a shocking performance.
If you're into body horror and gross-out flicks, then Contracted is for you. If you're looking for a good plot with smart characters, look elsewhere.

Any horror movie with a running length of under eighty minutes is bound to be low budget; therefore, questionable. Knowing this simple fact, I was able to be engaged in this rather slow paced horror film, despite the obvious plot holes and loose ends...
Pros: The main actress did a good job at the leading role. I didn't really like the main character, but ended up feeling sympathy for her in the end. The gore was subtle but still made you feel uneasy. Also the camera work portrayed the feeling of drunkenness well.
Cons: The plot definitely needed some work. The whole idea of being drugged (which is clearly implied) and then having unprotected sex with such horrific consequences is terrifying, but sadly an opportunity missed. Watch at your own risk!

No spoilers here, best part about this film is that it's short and to the point. Has a lot of nonsensical moments but the overall plot is intriguing. What didn't make much sense was how nobody around the central character did anything to point out how bad her situation was until it was too late.
Contracted: harsh reviews so far, therefore I'll be the first to change the pace a little.
I've watched horror ever since I can remember, love it, all types, slashers, zombies, ghosts and so on. I graded this one with a 6, maybe a little more than I should, but it definitely has to be over 5, and I'll give you the reasons: 1) the plot was pretty OK, more complex than you see at others 2) characters were divert, one of that, one of this, pretty much natural people 3) dialogue: seems dumb sometimes, might be OK if you consider the nature of the situation each time 4) the ending: did not see that one coming, I for one thought it was heading to a different conclusion.
I actually was drawn into it, I will not criticize the fact that it didn't rely on gore, blood or nudity, always loved diversity. So, to this strange little movie, that shows how a girl can change over the days, I say: bravo! It was not great, but it does move you slowly to the edge of the seat.
Contracted: worth a shot!
Cheers!

"Contracted" was actually a nice surprise of a movie, and a very refreshing and innovative take on the zombie genre.
The movie starts out in a fairly average manner, hinting at this being somewhat of a teenage movie, but then it does take a very nice and bizarre twist for the unexpected.
The story is about Samantha (played by Najarra Townsend) who is struggling with an overly caring and protective mom (played by Caroline Williams) and also struggling with her sexuality and relationship to Nikki (played by Katie Stegeman). When at a party with her friend Alice (Alice Macdonald) Samantha gets together with a strange guy in a moment of drunken stupor and has unprotected sex. Over the course of the next three days, Samantha's life comes crumbling down, as does her physical body and mind...
I will say that the story actually picked up a great pace and turned rather interesting come day 1 and forth in the storyline. And the story was really helped nicely along by some really great make-up and effects, as the three days came and went and we witness the deterioration of Samantha.
But of course, everything is not all good in "Contracted". One thing I didn't really understand was how people around Samantha, and particularly the doctor, could be so blind and ignorant to the deterioration of Samantha and her state of decay. How everyone was either blind or ignorant to what was going on, sort of added an element of stupidity to the movie, and a bad mistake from the director.
That being said, then I will say that I overall enjoyed director Eric England's vision in "Contracted" and his interesting approach to the zombie genre. And I will say that, with my devotion to all things zombie, then "Contracted" is well worthy of a place in any movie collection of anyone who enjoy zombie movies.
The ending of the movie was actually very satisfactory and fulfilling to the storyline, and it was a nice touch and a good ending in my opinion. Cheesy and predictable? Sure. But good, nonetheless.

- TriviaWriter/director Eric England said it was very difficult finding an actress to play the lead. Some people didn't want to do it because the pay wasn't good. Some of them thought the content was too bold and they didn't want it to be sketchy, and then some of them just had scheduling conflicts. They finally found found Najarra Townsend, who really wanted to do it even though her agent and reps told her not to. England sat her down and warned her making the movie would "suck" because of the extensive make-up effects, and joked that no one was going to have sex with her after they see the movie. But she said she didn't care because she loved the script, so they cast her.
- GoofsWhen Sam returns to the restaurant where she works, she asks her co-worker Jerry at the bar if George (the manager) is around. He says "not right now, but I wouldn't stay here too long - he's still pretty upset about the other day." Based on the time line of events shown in the film and assuming Jerry is referring to a customer finding Sam's bloody, rotten fingernail in her salad, which actually had just happened earlier that day as it was indicated earlier this is Day 3 Of 3, Jerry's response doesn't make sense.
