First of all: this was my very first Silent Hill game, so this remake is my introduction to the series.
Other notable and comparable horror games I played include like half of the Resident Evil games (all the new ones, Remakes), the two Alan Wake, TLoU and Outlast parts, respectively.
Gameplay wise it definitely is your "standard" Horror Survival / Action game, which is not a bad thing. It's a trusted concept after all; multiple findable weapons, different types of reoccurring enemies, boss fights, a good ol' flashlight, a little dodge mechanic, puzzles you need to solve to progress - you get the idea.
I sometimes needed a lot of time for certain parts of the game and got quite frustrated here and there because I did not understand what to do (I remember needing ages to figure out the clock puzzle for example - but if that's an issue you can always decrease the puzzle difficulty, which is a really good accessibility feature btw).
However, where SH2 really shines is its atmosphere. Constantly eery and, quite frankly, it only gets "worse" the longer the game goes on. Silent Hill 2 has a surprisingly low amount of jump scares (in terms of scripted ones, mannequins will do their thing exceptionally well tho) and rather tries to be scary in a consistent manner - which it achieves very well in my opinion. One of the most tense parts I remember was walking through a tunnel in basically complete darkness only so start hearing something that sounds like footsteps... I quickly decided to go back! The jail chapter was exceptionally atmospheric as well.
The story, which I enjoyed, slowly progresses and starts to make more sense through findable clues and cutscenes until you get to the final resolution at the very end. Yet, some things remain unanswered - but that's fine. And maybe animate you to play the game again in order to get one of the other endings!
Also, being a game from 2024 after all, the graphics are great. The game just looks really good - and sounds good too for that matter. Really fitting soundtrack that conveys tension when it's needed but also knows when to be completely silent, an underrated aspect!
In short; definitely one of the best horror games I've played so far, big recommendation!

Its here and its perfect.
As with all remakes i was very cautious and just hoped it would not be screwed up by some greedy fart face involved in its development.
It came out so much better than i could hope for.
I have been playing the original for years since it came out. Once a year at least. This new version is incredible. Its got everything from the old game and so much more. Its bigger, better and beautiful. The original was on pa2 so the backgrounds were always limited to look a bit plain but this new one takes all you loved and fleshes it out big time. I love exploring the town in the old fame but now you can really explore so much more. Some shops are open and you can explore those now too.
This new remake is everything i hoped it would be and so much more.
Compared to great remakes like RE2 and Dead Space, this one probably sits right next to them for being great. Well maybe a bit higher as it has always been a favourite game to go to.
I also hope the original gets cheaper and the scalpers dont get what they ask for a ps2 copy. You greedy scalpers charging over 200$
I hope we get more and GOOD silent hill games like this.
Because the ones that have come out in the past decade are mediocre.
Except for the Ascension. That was just terrible.

With the resident evil remakes being the new gold standard in survival horror and honestly gaming as a whole the developers of silent hill 2 (2024) were faced with a mammoth task. Remaking the greatest game of all time. And yeah all the fundamentals are there great gameplay, gorgeous graphics and level design, but the reason this is truly a masterpiece and a success is what they kept from the original and fairly and faithfully re-adapted is the joyless and broken soul of the original. The key here is the flawless true horror mixed with the tear inducing undertones of absolutely every element of the game. It's not just horrifying with stellar atmosphere and sound design but it's devastating. What makes this special and what I was really worried about is the thematic genius of the original and if they could keep it so perfectly subtlety woven into the game so you could feel it not see it. And they do all the themes of sexual violence, guilt, suffering, love, abuse, punishment and grief are all here and more. But what makes this special is how brutally under the radar it is all they sudden your welling up and you don't even know why until you really examine what is really going on. Allegories and themes in art are nothing new but they are rarely done this well in videogames and that's what makes this a perfect remake. Keeping the soul. It's a joyless broken soul but that's what makes it just a touch above the rest isn't it.
*Like many, when I saw the original trailer by Bloober Team I was like "this looks rough." Boy was I wrong. I mean I already pre-ordered the game already but still I went in with low expectations.
*This game is one of the greatest horror games I have ever played. It put Silent Hill back on the map (no pun intended). Survival Horror was in a rough place 10 years ago, with the release of RE5-6 being fun action games but there was no horror at all. Silent Hill hasn't had a decently good game since Silent Hill Origins. The whole survival horror genre had gone stale and old.
*This game is simply amazing, the graphics on PC MAX is absolutely stunning. The environments are some of the best I have ever seen, and Jame's face looks pretty photorealistic too. Unfortunately the female faces look kinda bad and scary.
*Anyways, this game has a great intro, and the final half of this game is nonstop edge of your seat thrills. I mean, I was completely glued to my screen from the mid way point when the story really started to take off.
*Pyramid Head is great, the characters have more cutscenes to flesh out the plot, and all of the boss fights are way way better than the original. The highlight is the Eddie boss fight, which is now this psychological "cat and mouse" battle.
-The only few negatives I have is that the female faces look pretty fugly, some of the classic scenes worked better with the original voice acting, and the last two stages were ridiculously dark, to the point where I was getting tired eyes from looking at all that darkness.
9.5/10.

I played so many games in my life, specially survival horror games. There is no game that affected me like silent hill 2 did. Remaking this game was like impossible job to do. I still cant believe how Bloober Team recreated it that professionally.
