March is set to be a big month for Hulu, with a packed lineup of movies and shows heading to the streaming service. Things kick off on March 1 with a huge drop of over 50 films, including some major fan favorites.

Sci-fi lovers have plenty to look forward to as Hulu adds nearly the entire Alien franchise to its catalog. Exclusive: Sony’s President of Domestic Distribution Adrian Smith is retiring after a 35-year run at the studio.

Taking over for Smith is Adam Bergerman who is being upped to President of Distribution.

Smith was named to the post in January 2013. Following the retirement of longtime Worldwide Distribution President Rory Bruer in April 2017, global duties were separated with Smith on domestic, and Steven O’Dell overseeing International.

Smith was key in the release of 1,025 films across all Sony labels, 202 of them No. 1 titles. His fingerprints are all over the successful revivals of the Bad Boys franchise, the animated Spider-Verse films, Ghostbusters, the Venom $1 billion+ series as well as the Tom Holland-starring Spider-Man movies which have minted close to $4B alone. In an interview with E! News at the event, the couple said the Ebony Power 100 Gala had a special significance for them as it was where they first in 2022. Majors, 35, and Good, 43, have been dating since May 2023, two months after the Lovecraft Country actor was arrested over an alleged assault against ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari.

The man who says Kevin Hart falsely implicated him in a sex tape extortion plot and then failed to “publicly exonerate” him as promised in a settlement agreement can no longer pursue his $12 million breach of contract lawsuit against Hart in open court, at least for now, a judge has ruled.

In a decision signed Thursday, Los Angeles County Judge Daniel S. Murphy ruled that plaintiff Jonathan “Jt” Jackson forfeited his right to sue Hart in a public forum when he added a clause to their settlement that agreed to private arbitration.

Night School has landed at No. 7 on Netflix's weekly global chart of the most watched English-language movies. The movie earned 27% from critics and 38% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. It remains to be seen if the movie's critical reputation is reevaulated after this streaming success.

Kim Kardashian is pairing with La La Anthony and Kenya Barris for her first-look deal at 20th Television: They’ll be adapting “The Love Playbook,” the New York Times best-seller co-written by Anthony, for Hulu.

The reality TV star’s deal with the studio will see her developing dramas, comedies and limited series.

“I’m incredibly interested in telling stories that are personal, complicated, relevant, from my own experiences and those familiar to me. I had a front row seat to working with the exceptional team at 20th Television during ‘American Horror Story: Delicate’, and I’m so excited to dive into developing my first wave of television projects with the team led by Karey Burke and Eric Schrier, and to continue working alongside Craig Erwich and his entire group at Hulu and Disney,” said Kardashian in a statement shared with TheWrap.

Zorro and Expats are the big shows coming to Prime Video in January. The former is what Amazon are calling a “bold reinterpretation” of the classic hero El Zorro for 2024. Starring Miguel Bernardeau as Diego de la Vega and Renata Notni as Lolita Marquez, it’s definitely an intriguing-sounding action-adventure series, with a ten-episode first season based on the iconic character originally created by Johnston McCulley all the way back in 1919.

Meanwhile, upcoming drama series Expats is based on the bestselling 2016 novel The Expatriates by Janice Y. K. Lee, and follows “the vibrant lives of a close-knit expatriate community” in Hong Kong. Nicole Kidman has been known for picking the right kind of shows to lead in the past, so let’s hope this is another banger for the actress, who is also on board as an executive producer here.

Amazon is developing a series version of the Darby Kane novel “Pretty Little Wife” with Gabrielle Union attached to star.

The project is described as “a cat-and-mouse thriller with a pulpy edge and some sexy soap that centers around two brilliant — and very different — Black women: Lily (Union), the pretty little wife suspected of murdering her husband, and Ginny, the detective on the case. Upon entering each other’s lives, they begin to crack open each other’s façade to reveal what really lies beneath.”

Among the sixty screen acting roles Regina Hall has racked up over the last couple decades are appearances in four of the five films in the Scary Movie horror spoof franchise. Now The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Hall is returning to horror comedy territory, signing on to star in writer/director Jim Strouse’s Breitenbush.

Hall will be taking on the role of aspiring district attorney Kate, who, after her husband vanishes on a camping trip during which everyone ingests a powerful hallucinogen and summons an angry prehistoric creature, must return to the site of the ill-fated trip with her friends to face the forces that led to his disappearance.

Exclusive: Emmy-nominated writer, comedian and actor Dewayne Perkins (The Amber Ruffin Show) has been tapped to write and executive produce Fox’s animated series Clue, based on Hasbro’s hugely popular mystery board game. Tim Story also has joined the project and will executive produce with Lynn Barrie for The Story Company. The project, which was set up at Fox for development last year, hails from Hasbro’s eOne and Fox Entertainment-owned Bento Box Entertainment, which will serve as the animation studio.

Will Packer Productions has tapped Leon Chills to adapt Stan Parish’s “Love and Theft” into a new movie for Universal Pictures.

Based on Parish’s novel, which was published in 2020 by Penguin Random House through its imprint at Knopf Doubleday, “Love and Theft” is a global romantic heist film set in Las Vegas, Mexico, and Spain.

Chills has previously written episodes for Netflix’s “Spinning Out” and Amazon’s “The Wilds,” where he was a story editor. On the feature side, Chills’ first spec sale was “Shadow Force,” an action drama sold to Lionsgate.

Packer and Johanna Byer will produce the movie, while Alvie Hurtado will oversee the production for Wpp. Lexi Barta, Universal Pictures’ vice president of production development, will oversee on behalf of the studio.

Exclusive: Entertainment One has entered a first-look television deal with top film and TV director-producer Tim Story and his The Story Company production company.

Through the deal, Story will develop television series for broadcast, cable and streaming. He has hired former Freeform head of development Lynn Barrie to serve as The Story Company’s Head of Television and oversee the pact with eOne.

In the new role, Hurtado is responsible for identifying content, filmmakers and talent for feature film development and production. He reports directly to Johanna Byer, Will Packer Prods.’ (Wpp) executive vice president of motion pictures.

James F. Lopez, who for the past three years was president of Will Packer Productions where he produced a string of hits including Girls Trip and Night School, has been hired as president of Macro Film Studios, the motion picture arm of Charles D. King’s Macro.

Lopez, who before joining Wpp in 2010 worked at Sony’s Screen Gems as SVP Production and helped steer hits including Think Like A Man, About Last Night, Think Like A Man Too, The Wedding Ringer, The Perfect Guy and When The Bough Breaks, will now oversee Macro’s slate of film projects in development, production and distribution following the success last year of the company’s Best Picture Oscar nominee Judas and the Black Messiah.

He joins a team that includes CEO King, EVP Poppy Hanks and VP Greta Fuentes as Macro expands its film business, which aims to tell diverse stories on a global scale.

Will Packer Productions and Mo Abudu’s EbonyLife Studios are teaming to develop an untitled project based on Evan Ratliff’s Bloomberg article, “The Fall of the Billionaire Gucci Master.”

The companies won the rights in a highly competitive situation and have set up the project at Universal Pictures.

Ratliff’s article digs into the story of Nigerian Instagram influencer Ramon Abbas. The figure otherwise known as Hushpuppi, or the Billionaire Gucci Master, is alleged to have perfected a simple internet scam that allowed him to launder millions of dollars.

Packer and Abu’s project is described as a globetrotting action thriller — a hybrid of Catch Me If You Can and The Usual Suspects.
