I mean, I know the Super Megaforce idea is kinda cookoo because its pirates. But for sure, my FAVORITE Megaforce episode is the Legendary Battle episode. I mean, just now, I'm writing a new Power Rangers book called Power Rangers Ultra Force. And not to mention my mom loves Power Rangers and my mom's favorite is Mighty Morphin. So, I would want you to believe that Megaforce is not one of the bad Power Rangers shows in the Morphing world of Power Rangers. So, I just want to say to PR fans, keep doing good, Power Ranger fans and actors, keep Morphining and don't judge how terrible Power Rangers are. HAVE FUN!!!!!!
I started watching, and finished watching, and I'm still wondering about what I saw. It has got to be the wackiest writing I've seen! Lots of things reminded us of the good old morphing days, but all the rest seemed sewn together in some kind of crazy quilt of evil! I mean, there's barely any explanation for the new power's origin, why they are sporting obviously pirate uniforms and zords, and even fighting styles. I guess the super sentai fans all know why, but it is supposed to be an independent show from that right? To make it worse, they had all this footage from the "legendary rangers", but decided to simply make new one with the megaforce uniform. Why? Couldn't they just create a storyline with new rangers - but from the past - and enrich even more its history? Anyway, this season just came out as a wasted opportunity. The old super sentai uniforms seen in this season (as the ones that weren't shown) had all great stories behind them, or even new ones to be imagined. But the creators just grazed upon them, and preferred to stay with a very simple script.
For starters, high schoolers have been done a billion times or what feels like a billion times. Troy is such a bad leader. Noah is the nerd type like Billy from MM. Jake is the cool/athletic type, similar to Zack. And all of the others are just bland and feel like a thin sheet of paper. Also this was just a disappointment and a shame to the precious Gokaiger. You had one job!
Well, what's to say? Back in 1994, the internet was in it's infancy. I was working on the Power Rangers movie in Australia, building zord cockpits. Yes, a mad fan of the show, working on the show and surrounded by Power rangers. Hence my handle (Zordmaker), a handle I have now held since the movie came out in 1995.
Today I sat down and watched the first two episodes of "Power Rangers Megaforce" with my 9 year old daughter, who'se name (naturally) is Kimberley.
Before that handle I was known on the 'net as "Paul MMPR Forever". Others would jest at me and my handle, saying that Power Rangers was a fad and would never last. Who'se had the last laugh now eh? "PR Megaforce" does justice to 20 years of history with the show coming home to roost with it's original producers but still filmed in NZ. The first ep is deliberately formula and essentially the same as the 20 year old fossil.
As with the original, there's a long way to go yet for Megaforce. It has a the same problems as it's more modern predecessors (Samurai & back to about Time Force) in that there's simply too much smash and bash action and not enough time to tell a story.
But story was never a strong point with Power Rangers. That's why when we see some (as was the case with the first series back in 1993-94) we covet it so much. My satisfying feeling is that Megaforce might be more than just a 20 year homage to the original.
Give it a chance. Especially if you're an old fan of the show, have drifted away and might want to come back. I've never really liked everything that Jonathan Tzachor did (that second PR movie was a low point) but hey, without him there would be no PR - and now (it would seem) no Megaforce.
Go for it, team. Well done! Zordmaker

It is obvious that this whole season was just filler in the leadup to the Gokaiger adaptation, but still. It deserves to be reviewed.
Let's start off with the acting. It is absolutely offensively bad. I would be embarrassed if I were auditioning for this season and lost to the cast that they hired. Seriously, the Red Ranger may as well have been played by a robot. No one on the cast knows how to act. You get little to no emotion out of the majority of the rangers. And it seems as if they're keeping this cast for their Gokaiger adaptation, Super Megaforce! FFS!
The writing was awful, too. Compared to RPM, which had characters with enriching, intriguing backstories - This is a joke. The Pink Ranger was the closest we got to a deep character, and that's saying something.
The overall story arc was weak. I could have thought up a way better arc. And I'm sure you reading this could have, too. The story arc Saban chose was predictable, weak and boring. It never bothered to try something new.
All that this season got right was the setting and special effects. The places where the Rangers went looked great in HD. And the effects looked good for a children's show.
Because of the aforementioned reasons, I am giving the overall season 3 out of 10.
