Rhea Seehorn in Pluribus (2025)
Follows the most miserable person on Earth and the one who must save the world from happiness.

"Breaking Bad" creator Vince Gilligan returns to television with "Pluribus," a surreal new drama that poses an unusual dilemma: What if the world's most miserable person had to save humanity from happiness? In the series' first trailer, Emmy nominee Rhea Seehorn ("Better Call Saul") stars as Carol, the most miserable person on Earth, as she navigates a surreal world in which everyone seems bent on making her happy.

The nine-episode series reunites Gilligan with Seehorn, whose portrayal of Kim Wexler in "Better Call Saul" earned her universal acclaim and two Emmy nominations. They're joined by an ensemble cast including Karolina Wydra ("Sneaky Pete") and Carlos-Manuel Vesga ("The Hijacking of Flight 601"), with notable guest appearances from Miriam Shor and Samba Schutte. The project marks Gilligan's first return to television since concluding the "Breaking Bad" universe, bringing along several key creative collaborators including writers Gordon Smith and Alison Tatlock.

"Pluribus" debuts its first two episodes on Apple TV on November 7, 2025, with subsequent episodes releasing weekly through December 26. The streamer has already given the show a two-season order, suggesting viewers are in for another ambitious, boundary-pushing series from one of television's most innovative creators.

    Summary

Reviewers say 'Pluribus' has an intriguing initial premise, but many say it fails to deliver on its potential. The series is criticized for its slow pacing, lack of coherent plot development, and an unlikable main character. Many find the dialogue stiff and exposition-heavy, faulting the show for overdone visual effects and a weak script. Critics highlight inconsistencies in story logic and unrealistic character behaviors. Frustration is expressed over the main character's constant negativity and lack of growth. The series is often unfavorably compared to the creator's previous works like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

    Hopes dashed

I am sorry to say that, so far at least, Pluribus is a disappointment. The premise is potentially interesting, but not much happens in this show. There are few bright spots. Rhea's great, but even her skills so far haven't turned this snoozer into a program with the excellence of Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul. My hope is that Carol visits a Cinnabon and is served by Gene Takavic.

    Emperors new clothes??

I really don't know what I think of this show. Is it genius or rubbish. Really it is the eye of the beholder and what mood you are in. The initial premise was great . The first 2 episodes fun and intriguing and then what appeared to be a metaphorical brick wall, a show condemned really by its own story limitations. Literally it appears to have no where to go but takes a long time not to get there. At least 3 episodes did nothing . I really mean nothing. The acting is good the filming looks great. The lead has a well fleshed out character but 9 episodes was too much. Its worth watching you could probably jump the middle 3 maybe 4 episodes you wont miss anything.

    Get to the point, already

I want to like this show more, but it falls into the same trap as so many other shows, it should have just been a movie. It takes forever to say anything or get anywhere and this makes it terribly boring and drawn out. If season 1 had been the first 90 minutes of a 2 hour movie with a proper conclusion, it would be getting a 9 star review from me.

The problem is- I do not care about the well being or success of any character in this show.

Their motives and aims are not fascinating.

This makes it hard to follow what could have been an interesting concept.

Carol shouts expletives at everyone for 45 mins each episode, then realizes something to move the plot forward in the last 5 minutes. Rinse and repeat.

Edit: After watching all 9 episodes, I'm still indifferent as to whether our main characters succeed or fail.

    Maybe?

When I started watching it, the series had a 9.1/10 rating, so I was expecting something extraordinary. Maybe I'm jaded, but it definitely wasn't. Nothing revolutionary, nothing new. Not bad, but not innovative either.

The first episode is promising, but the second is rather boring...

We'll see if the rest lives up to expectations, but it doesn't bode well. At first glance, it looks like a series with only dialogue, differing opinions, more dialogue, and not much else.

    To be continued...
