Zweig's novel set in modern Germany

This one is a screen version of "Ungeduld des Herzens" (or "Beware Of Pity" in English) written by Stefan Zweig in 1939 but set in modern Germany. I haven't read the novel (now I will) but I found the film really compelling and thought-provoking. It's exploring how Isaac, a young loser (at least that's how he describes himself) jumps at the chance to prove everyone that he's a hero by trying to pity (and even cure!) a young disabled woman Edith, who lost her ability to walk in a motorcycle accident. Isaac convinces Edith, her family and himself that he cares for her, but the more he is involved in her life, the more harm and damage he brings. I loved the modern setting and the great acting in this one. Now it's time to read the novel!
