The World of Killing People

Given my love of Asian cinema and horror cinema, then of course I had to sit down and watch this 2022 Thai horror comedy, when I stumbled upon it here in 2024. Sure, I had never even heard about the movie. But that hardly mattered, as it being a Thai horror comedy was more than sufficient to make me sit down and watch the movie.

This movie carries a very odd title; "The World of Killing People", which made very little sense. And the copy that I picked up was titled "Night of the Killer Bears", oddly enough, but at least a title that made more sense given the contents of the movie.

The narrative was a rather sluggish and there wasn't really much of anything interesting or entertaining transpiring on the screen. But hey, if you enjoy horror comedies, without comedy elements, and a whole lot of dialogue going on, then "The World of Killing People" should be right up your alley. It wasn't my cup of tea, and I found it quite a struggle to sit through this boring snoozefest of a movie from director Kanphong Banjongphinij.

"The World of Killing People" is a slasher movie, but the killer in the movie was bland and very forgettable.

While I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie, I will say that the acting performances were fair, despite the fact that the script and storyline was a dumpster fire. Actress Panisara Rikulsurakan, playing Nan, put on the most memorable performance in the movie.

There is a little bit of violence in the movie. Fully and wholly unrealistic violence. Such as the first kills in the movie with a machete that cut through flesh and bone as if it was paper, or the axe that could chop a fully grown man in half in a single chop. It was just ridiculous.

"The World of Killing People" was a swing and a miss of a movie, and it is most definitely not a movie that I would recommend you to waste your time, money or effort on. Some of us suffered through this rubbish so you don't have to. You're quite welcome. And while I did manage to endure the prolonged suffering of 95 minutes that the movie ran for, this is without a doubt not a movie that I will ever return to watch a second time.

My rating of director Kanphong Banjongphinij's 2022 horror comedy, without an ounce of comedy, lands on a generous three out of ten stars.

Night of the Killer Bears (2022) is a movie from Thailand 🇹🇭 that I recently watched on Prime. The storyline follows a group of friends who haven't been around each other and after getting back together...they discover why. Meanwhile, as they settle their differences, a serial killer dressed as a bear starts taking them out one by one.

This movie is directed by Kanphong Banjongphinij, in his directorial debut, and stars Sananthachat Thanapatpisal (Bad Romeo), Patchata Jan-Ngern (Girl2k), Chanagun Arpornsutinan (2gther) and Panisara Rikulsurakan (The Promise).

This is one of those movies with a cliche storyline, annoying characters and a great killer. If you can get past my first two points, you'll enjoy the third one...because the kill scenes in here entertained me a ton. Yes, there's some CGI blood; but the hacking, killing and gore were all top notch. I can't say I loved the conclusion, but I already made a mental note to look past the storyline and enjoy the kills. I definitely found this worth a watch.

Overall, I would only recommend this to horror enthusiasts looking for a unique slasher picture. I would score this a 4.5-5/10 and recommend seeing it once.

Some friends decide to have a reunion for some stupid reason then people with teddy bear heads start killing them. Night Of The Killer Bears is a silly Thailand slasher and, yes, it's a cliche reunion horror where people reunite, get killed off and a big twist happens which the revelation happens and, well..... We've been down this road a multitude of times with this $#!+. Killer Bears has annoying characters (English dubbing to blame.... Well, actually it may helped it more... I don't know) and the bear people look corny to a tee. But for fans of splatter, you'll be happy to know it is plentiful..... BUT some of it appears to be CGI. So.... That blows. They say it's Terrifier meets Ted. Now if you smoke enough crack and have the worse case of down syndrome, you might be able to see it like that. Sure, WHY NOT? Anyways, I had fun with it regardless of its flaws.
