This is one of my favorite video games of all time and one of my favorite racing games of all time. This was a game done by one of my favorite video game companies Rare which is true to its name because this game really is the kind of racing game you really don't see all that often.
This game you do control cars but their radio-controlled cars which is cool, I always like those kinds of toys because of the concept of just control automobiles by remote. Let alone how little those vehicles are and just seeing how fast you could take them or even do some tricks with them. However, I really love those R.C. races and the tracks they built which are cool as their miniaturized speedways which have all kinds of twists, turns, and even ramps and obstacles that regular speedways could never have.
This game gives you that sensation but also takes things further. The control in the game is solid, it might seem a little awkward at first, but you get use to it. The control is like that of a regular R.C. car though also a little like with the game "Super Sprint". Really love the sound the cars make, from the motor running to those turns and drifts which are just music to my ears.
Really like the graphical presentation which I think is very good, really like the use of the isomorphic style which fits this kind of racing game well as with every R.C. car race you need to see the race track in its entirety to maneuver your car; but also there really weren't any or many racing games that utilized the isomorphic style, except for the sequel and "Rock N' Racing" but those are stories for another time. Designs of the cars are good their pretty much a basic design. But it's really those tracks that are the best thing as each of the tracks are different and uniquely designed.
One of the things that make the game stand out is the use of power ups and speed boosts which at the time weren't commonplace in racing games. On the track there are some power ups which can help put you ahead of the competition. One of them is to boost your speed temporarily, though there are also arrows on the track when you ride over them. Another is a shield which will not just protect you but will give you the opportunity to bump the other cars off the road. And one other are the missiles, which you use to load up your installed guns and can blow away any opposing drivers.
Also the other thing is for your car to level up which was also a unique thing for racing games at the time. When you win trophies on the game, certain features of your car level up which makes you car faster and better.
