Hu Sanshou’s Resurrection premiered at last year’s Taiwan International Documentary Festival; this year, the director was awarded the annual True Vision award at True/False before the first of two showings of this feature. A classically exemplary slab of rigorously conceived Chinese nonfiction, Hu’s fifth feature was executed under the larger auspices of the Folk Memory Project, a group of Chinese films focusing on the Great Famine of 1959-61. Channel 4 is bringing back its big guns with a Russell T. Davies drama and the return of a David Mitchell and Robert Webb sketch comedy after 15 years.
It’s a Sin creator Davies is making Tip Toe for Channel 4, which the network describes as “exploring the most corrosive forces facing the LGBTQ+ community today.” The show follows Leo and Clive who live next door to each other in Manchester. Leo runs a bar, Clive’s an electrician, with two teenage sons. But just as life should be settling down, the world around them is growing more tense.
Speaking at a Channel 4 showcase this afternoon in London, Davies said the two leads, who he described as “big names,” are “lined up just not quite signed yet.”

Animal Crossing: New Horizons, despite being the best-selling Animal Crossing game of all time, still lacks major characters and features from previous games in the series. Among those missing features is Katie, an adorable special cat villager who always needs help reuniting with her Mother Kaitlin. Katie has been such a staple of the series that she has even appeared in numerous Super Smash Bros. titles, most recently as a spirit alongside her mother in Ultimate.
Katie is one of the cutest special villagers in the series, with her adorable brown bangs, rosy cheeks, and blue denim dress. While she initially began as a crying child, Katie grew up in between games to become an independent traveler who enjoys visiting new towns. Despite New Horizons almost completely ignoring her existence, the next Animal Crossing game should add Katie back, especially as a full-time villager.

The Animal Crossing franchise has many beloved features, but fans are thrilled that one particular aspect never made it into Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The series is known for its cute playable characters and memorable animal villagers. The game is also beloved by many for being a relaxing and cozy island decorating experience. That said, there's one feature of the older games that fans agree was more stressful than cozy.
Fellow New Horizon players agree wholeheartedly with user Scorbunny_Ear, who pointed out in a post that "I’m glad that grass deterioration didn’t return in New Horizons." In Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the grass had a realistic mechanic that saw it deteriorate as more players walked across it. This meant that walking the same path often enough would result in worn-down grass-free dirt paths.

Rufus Wainwright has lent his voice to some timeless words over the years, from modern classics penned by Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell to the traditional songs on last year’s Folkocracy project. But he’s never before used those golden tones to sing about something quite as grand as The Lord of the Rings — until now.
The second season of Amazon’s splashy prequel series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power features Wainwright singing lead vocals on a song called “Old Tom Bombadil,” written by composer Bear McCreary.

Paul Duane crafts a melancholy yet unforgettable film with All You Need is Death. A talented documentary maker, Duane turns to folk horror with this tale with Irish music and mystery at its core. We meet Anna and Aleks, a young couple exploring rare folk songs in Ireland.
Hoping to make a discovery, they hear rumors of an ancient ballad known only to Rita Concannon, the sole inheritor of a song passed down through generations of women in her family. What begins as an intriguing search soon reveals dark forces as this music stirs memories better left buried.
Duane takes us deep into Irish folklore and the power of tradition to both heal and haunt. Central is the concept of ancestral memory preserved not in books but in verse handed down through time. When the songs meant only for certain ears are heard by others, what wakes up the soul?...

The White Lotus star Lukas Gage reveals that he would love to play a part in a potential miniseries adaptation of the Gwyneth Paltrow trial. The first time Grammy-winning Americana/bluegrass act Steep Canyon Rangers played the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida, the group was adorned in full suits and encircling a lone microphone.
“It was probably around 2004,” Rangers singer-banjoist Graham Sharp tells Rolling Stone backstage at the recent Suwannee Spring Reunion festival. “We’ve been able to trace our band and its evolution through this festival, from being a traditional bluegrass band to being whatever the hell we are now — this place is a natural home for that.”

Exclusive: Olli Haaskivi (Oppenheimer) is the latest actor to join Apple TV+’s six-episode Huey P. Newton series The Big Cigar in a recurring role. He joins an ensemble fronted by André Holland, which also includes the previously announced Alessandro Nivola, Tiffany Boone, Pj Byrne, Marc Menchaca, Jordane Christie and Moses Ingram.
Based on the Playboy magazine article of the same name by Argo‘s Joshuah Bearman, The Big Cigar will tell the extraordinary, hilarious, almost-too-good-to-be-true story of how Black Panther leader Newton (Holland) relied on his best friend, Bert Schneider (Nivola) — the Hollywood producer behind Easy Rider — to elude a nationwide manhunt and escape to Cuba while being pursued into exile by the FBI.
Haaskivi will play Artie Ross, the screenwriter behind such titles as Brubaker and Creature from the Black Lagoon, who was at one point blacklisted as the Red Scare infiltrated Hollywood.
