The single most faithful video game adaptation I've ever played

*SERIOUS BLOODY CONTENT WARNING FOR THIS GAME* I mean, if you know anything about South Park, that's an unnecessary warning, but still, if you're offended by or just don't find the show's signature brand of humour very funny, this game won't do anything to change your mind, so don't even bother. That's because from top to bottom, beginning to end, this game IS the show. They're completely indistinguishable, the animation is the same, the voice actors are all reprising their roles, and it's easily the best thing about this game. The story too, feels exactly like a 10-15 hour long episode of the show, in a good way, with a lot of nonsensical and hilarious twists and turns that really puts the make-believe fantasy war between the kids into perspective. However, I did feel some moments in the story dragged on a bit, and towards the middle of the game, you'll be expected to make a choice that you'd think would drastically affect the rest of the story somehow, but it affects a grand total of absolutely nothing. Bit of a letdown. On PS3, the game does like to stutter a fair bit, but it is mostly made up for by the amazing world of the town, how detailed it is, and how packed to the brim with easter eggs and hilarious items it is. It's so rare to see a straight up comedy game these days, that it's a joy to see one that took any opportunity it could to throw a joke in somewhere, whether that be in the inventory screen, NPC dialogue, or during combat. Speaking of combat though, that feels like the most seriously lacking area of the game. I played the game on the hardest difficulty and it was still an absolute breeze, and overall it's a very shallow RPG, where 9 times out of 10, the best strategy will always be to simply equip the highest level items in your inventory and spam magic attacks, while being able to refill your health or magic before attacking if necessary. For a while, that's fine, and the animations of the special attacks for each character are funny and imaginative, but after seeing them for 10 hours straight, and mostly using the same strategies over and over again, it does end up feeling a little tedious by the end. Still, if you're a fan of the show, you'll undoubtedly find a lot of enjoyment in this, and if you're not someone who already knows they don't like the show, but haven't had much experience with it, give it a go anyway, it's a charming, gross, satirical, outrageous good time.

          Classic South Park

South Park: TSOT was my obsession for 2 days straight. The humor begins almost instantly. Think of it as a mix between South Park and Pokemon during the action sequences. You basically will run into the 'enemy' i.e. other fourth graders and when you do it puts you in an organized fighting sequence. This is similar to Pokemon where you find an enemy and then take turns taking swings at each other. That is what you do as far as fighting goes. To be completely honest, it sometimes can get annoying to continually get in these but it is your only means of XP. There will be times where you can utilize the environment to kill or K.O. enemies w/o getting into battle. But the fighting will be funny and cool at first, but it sort of gets stale by the end.

The open world is fairly condense, yet sometimes confusing so be sure to use your map often. What I like about this game and is that it isn't a dull and mindless game. You WILL have to think about obstacles and how to get by them. They are not impossible, but remember if you cannot figure out how to get to something in the outside world, you probably just haven't gotten far enough into the game; be patient! If you do not enjoy stupid humor this game will be mind-numbing to you (i.e. farting, unnecessary sexual content, etc...). I must say that there are some parts that are very 'over the top' to the point that even I was saying, "really? how did they get away with this?" or "really? I seriously have to do this?"... I won't give away anything but there are some really messed up things in the game but... it's South Park so I should've known better. Just be aware that it can get kind of nasty.

All-in-all I would give this game a 9/10 because it really was an enjoyment. If you are a South Park fan this game will definitely be right down your alley. As you rank up, you get new materials, new weapons, and new 'abilities.' These abilities can get confusing since there are so many, and there will be many points in the game where you have to utilize all of them at some point. I think there are too many to be honest, but it may just be because I would use the wrong ability for the wrong circumstance and I got frustrated. If you are an achievement/trophy collector, you most likely will have to do two full-game runthroughs so just be aware. Enjoy!

Must play for any South Park fan.

Just finished this game and it is amazing. I personally think it is better than the other one but they are both still great. I will admit there are some hard parts but you will pass them.

What Pokes The Stick Of Truth

I never heard of or watched South Park in my entire life because it was never shown on my TV channels as a kid until I discovered this game.

South Park Stick Of Truth is the most derogatory but still a great game to play. South Park may be South Park by its nature and I am not much of a fan of South Park but there are pros and cons that I can say about this game.

The character creation is very simple and very good for making my South Park protagonist. The combat is absolutely amazing it is both turn-based and interacting moves to know how effective it is, The comedy is really good even though there are offensive parts and the animation in the game plays absolutely just like South Park like I am playing a video game while watching TV.

While there are some very offensive parts like Cartman's faction name which good thing I am from the Philippines. Ally summon assists felt very useless because they won't let me use them in boss battles and collection spots like Chinpokomon will always be permanently locked when going to different locations. And a very rude forced name

If you are a true South Park fan game then this is one of the great games in the South Park franchise.

          Short but funny!

First off, I am highly surprised you can look up video games on this website since I have just now discovered this since I am still fairly new to IMDb (as an actual user).

          Now for the actual review.

Well, what can I say? 'South Park' is and has always been one of my absolute favorite things on this planet. I have enjoyed some of the games in my life (most being flash games), and the N64 game was lots of fun to me, but this one probably tops it all.

The very best parts about this title are the following: references to the show, solid graphics while not lagging at all, funny and witty jokes everywhere, etc. Simply put: South Park. In case you have seen the entire show (or lots of it for this matter), you will get all the references, places, etc. If you have /not/ seen too much of it, you will still consider most of it funny because, well, it is 'South Park' after all!

Story-wise, this game is pretty good as well since it makes sense for the most part and the side-missions (which I did along with playing through the storyline at the very same time, btw.) are pretty fun, too. Though, I have to complain about a few things. This game is /far/ too short: It took me approximately 14 hours to get done with the story and all of its side-missions, which is not even roughly enough. Plus, once you have played through the game, there is nothing left you can do. That is the only reason I 'only' gave it 9/10 stars because the rest is, as stated above, very pleasant.

All in all, I can only recommend playing through the entire game, for it is highly enjoyable!

          • Trivia
Trey Parker cited Mother 2: Gîgu no gyakushuu (1994), Paper Mario (2000), and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2011) as his main inspirations behind the game's RPG mechanics. The decision to have a silent protagonist was drawn from "The Legend of Zelda" series.

When you enter the Medical Records Room, your character uses the phone to take a photo, but pressed the home button instead of the camera logo.

Jimmy Valmer: [singing "The Maiden from Stonebury Hollow"] There once was a maiden from Stonebury Hollow / She didn't talk much, but boy, did she swallow / I had a nice lance that she sat upon / The maiden from Stonebury who is also your mom.

          • Crazy credits
In the bomb disarming mini-game, if you lose you see the entire town explode and a fake set of credits identical to the show's appear before re-spawning you.
          • Alternate versions
Scenes involving anal probing and abortions were censored in the Australian and EMFA versions of the game. Matt Stone and Trey Parker got around this by inserting an image of a crying koala and Michelangelo's David doing a facepalm, respectively, and a text inter-title "apologizing" for the censorship and describing what was happening in the scene while leaving the audio intact.
