Here is something to keep an eye out for, Purgatory Jack, a Canadian 'neo-noir mystery thriller set in the afterlife' from The Butler Brothers, Brett and Jason.    Private detective Jack Marlin is working on a new case. He has to help a pop star find her mother who committed suicide twenty years earlier.   Purgatory Jack had a lengthy and successful festival run, picking up some awards while on tour, and now its up for international sales from Black Mandala. The pic was produced by our friends over at Hanger 18 Media, the production arm of Raven Banner Entertainment and 9 Light Entertainment. From venue changes and the pandemic to political backlash and the threat of litigation, Salem Horror Fest founder and director Kay Lynch has never been one to back down. The festival’s seventh annual event, which kicked off last night at Salem’s Peabody Essex Museum, was further proof of her resilience.

After its original headliner, Hocus Pocus star Kathy Najimy, canceled with less than 48 hours notice, the festival’s entire opening night ceremony was restructured. On lieu of the original $50 ticket charge, the program was made free (with the option to make a donation), costing the festival an untold amount of money.

But the show must go on — and it did so in spectacular fashion with horror icon Linnea Quigley sitting down for a live interview, while the Hocus Pocus screening was replaced by The People’s Joker, previously scheduled to be the festival’s closing film.

Blood in the Snow Film Festival (Bits), a unique and imaginative showcase of contemporary Canadian genre films, are pleased to announce the Blood in the Snow Film Festival is back for its 12th exciting edition fully in-person November 20th – 25th at the Isabel Bader Theatre in Toronto presented by Super Channel.

Thrillers play a big part of the lineup this year with the festival feature opener Last County by Barret Mulholland and the World Premiere of Walking Supply from director Derek Barnes.

Other highlights include the highly acclaimed My Animal, from director Jacqueline Castel which recently won the Silver Audience Award for Best Canadian Feature at Fantasia and long time alumni Jesse Thomas Cook returns with The Hyperborean. Jesse’s last film to premiere at Bits in 2021, Cult Hero went on to be nominated for six Canadian Screen Awards.

The gang at Blood in the Snow have announced the lineup for this year's edition. The festival is back to fully in-person at the Isabel Bader theatre here in Toronto. It will come with a packed program of short film blocks and some of the best feature films Canada had to offer this year.    We've talked about films like My Animal, The Hyperborean and The Last Video Store.
