It Gets Dark Too Early

The main motif to see this short film was to discover Carlos Diehz out of cardinal Benitez skin. And the surprise was more than pleasant.

Because the virtue of It Gets Dark Too Early is to be more than vampire short film or horror or story of alienation or friendship.

It is a film about...identity and its acceptance. Sweet in few scenes - the construction of dragon fly or the blood glass test , for familiar portrait of vampire in dracula manner and the young woman looking for be accepted and have some good answers about her state.

Delicate, ironic and just seductive, with precise drop of bitterness and special beauty.

And, indeed, Mr. Diez is a better vampire than...cardinal.

If i have to complain about one thing regarding It Gets Dark Too Early is that it ends! What a lovely beautiful story about two people who are still coming to terms with their respective traumas and throught their friendship help each other. So much i could say about such a short story. Every second was so well utilized and not gonna lie, i would kill for a tv show about Chrys and Val. Just their cute and silly little shenanigans and still learning to cope with their traumas together, maybe a couple more stop motion shorts along the way!

Hope more people find this short, it was clearly made with so much care, i hope it keeps receiving more love!

It Gets Dark Too Early was a standout for me when I caught it at the Rise Film Festival in Vancouver last year. This student short film approaches heavy topics in ways I found engaging and thought-provoking.

The set design, costumes, and makeup added a campy charm that set the stage perfectly for Valerie and Chrysanthemum's story. I wish there was more of them before the tone got heavier, actually! The chemistry between the two leads is awesome and the fun montage showcasing their friendship was sweet.

As a student production, you can tell it's not flawless, but I don't really mind. It still managed to tell a cool story that resonated with me a lot!
