One film that may have flown under the radar this year is Keir O'Donnell's feature directorial debut Marmalade, a romantic heist thriller that hit Hulu back in June. Starring Joe Keery as Baron, a simple-minded young man newly incarcerated after robbing a bank, Marmalade is reminiscent of films like Bonnie and Clyde and Wild at Heart — a twisted love story, but one that evolves into something completely different by the time the credits roll. Keery stars alongside Camila Morrone, who plays Baron's spunky, pink-haired girlfriend, Marmalade, and Aldis Hodge, as Baron's cellmate who offers to help him escape jail to reunite with her. Marmalade is a twisty adventure that keeps you on your toes throughout its runtime, turning Baron into a methodical but sympathetic anti-hero that highlights an all-too-common issue with the pharmaceutical industry in the United States.

Prime Video's Cross brings the exciting characters conceived by James Petterson back to the small screen, but this wouldn't be possible without its exceptional cast. Now, Cross arrives on Prime Video on November 14, 2024, with a first season that will dive into the story of Patterson's Alex Cross.
James Patterson's Alex Cross book series got their start back in 1993, and there have since been 32 books published. These stories outline the work of psychologist detective Alex Cross, who solved thrilling mysteries by diving into the minds of the worst murders. To bring Patterson's books to life, Watkins has brought actors like Aldris Hodge, Isaiah Mustafa, Juanita Jennings, Ryan Eggold, and more aboard for a thrilling, action-packed crime drama fresh from Prime Video.

After watching him play the fan-favorite Steve Harrington for years in the pop-culture phenomenon that goes by the name of Stranger Things, you probably didn’t imagine you’d see Joe Keery as a simpleton with a heavy Southern accent. But Keir O’Donnell’s debut feature, titled Marmalade, clearly proves that Keery wants to break out of that image. His very recent role in the fifth season of Fargo can testify to that as well. And if his performance in Marmalade is anything to go by, then it can be said that Keery is very much on the right track.
I generally take pride in figuring out the twist beforehand in many films, but Marmalade has managed to beat me in that game. "The painting was a gift, Todd. I'm keeping it." Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson were pretty darn hilarious in Wedding Crashers, but Keir O'Donnell's standout role as Todd perhaps overshadowed a big chunk of the classic comedy. Years later, O'Donnell has gone behind the camera with his own script in hand as writer and director of Marmalade, now in theaters and on demand. Featuring a stellar cast led by Joe Keery (Stranger Things), Camila Morrone (Daisy Jones & The Six), and the never-better Aldis Hodge (Black Adam), the rednecked caper film becomes more than just a love letter to the Southern-laced pursuit of the American dream.

Steven Soderbergh went from directing Ocean's 11 to helming Logan Lucky, proving that rednecks can be just as slick at pulling off the ultimate heist. Years later, Keir O'Donnell is taking a stab at the thrilling subgenre of cinema. You might recognize him from his standout roles in Wedding Crashers as Todd and season 2 of Fargo as Ben Schmidt. However, in his new film Marmalade, which he wrote and directed, O'Donnell is nowhere to be seen, however. It's a small-scale comedy-drama that offers some juicy twists and turns along the way, and combined with the upbeat pace, he might just have a future in the industry from behind the camera as well.
Starring a spread of familiar faces, Marmalade is sometimes a bit too unassuming, as a sort of less impactful Bonnie & Clyde, but ultimately leans into the goodhearted thrills as the story progresses.

Marmalade starts off as the umpteenth variation on Bonnie and Clyde — a Southern-fried true romance about two chaotic young lovers (Joe Keery's incredibly dumb mailman and Camila Morrone's fiery free spit) who decide to rob a bank. Then, the film's plot shifts and darkens when it becomes clear that Marrone isn't playing a crime-happy Manic Pixie Dream Girl, but rather a character who is far more diabolical than she first appears. That was when I started to warm up to Marmalade's more subversive intentions. And Then the movie's story shifts again, bending in ways that had seemed inconceivable just 60 minutes prior. All of a sudden, we're not in Bonnie and Clyde land anymore; we're in Plot Twist City. And I think I kind of loved it?!

Marmalade is a romantic heist comedy that explores the lengths someone is willing to go for love. The movie pays homage to classic films like Raising Arizona and Bonnie and Clyde while adding its own twist. The director, Keir O'Donnell, carefully crafted the look of the film and chose a talented ensemble cast to bring the characters to life.
Sometimes, true love can lead to dangerous situations, as in Marmalade. The romantic heist comedy revolves around Baron, a mild-mannered postal worker in a small Southern town who falls head over heels for the titular newcomer, only to be drawn into a bank robbery that forces him to question how far he's willing to go for the woman he loves.

Marmalade is an edge-of-the-seat crime-tinged romance with a Bonnie and Clyde-style bank robbery. The movie features a duality of characters and surprise twists, making it an exciting and fun ride. Aldis Hodge, who stars in the film, praised the script and enjoyed the collaborative experience with his co-star Joe Keery.
Not all stories are as true as they seem as told by Marmalade. The romantic heist movie centers on the mild-mannered Baron as he tells his story of falling in love with the titular woman to his cellmate after being arrested for their bank robbery gone wrong, all in the hopes of convincing his cellmate to help him break out of prison.

Aldis Hodge's new film, Marmalade, is much more than a simple heist movie, delving into themes of justice and more. Hodge's supporting character, Otis, in Marmalade is a standout with his comedic and authentic reactions, making viewers root for him. Hodge has had diverse roles in his career, from playing Jim Brown in One Night in Miami... to portraying Hawkman in Black Adam, and he hopes to revisit the Hawkman character in the future.
Jim Brown. Hawkman. Mc Ren. This wide-ranging list of icons and movie characters all have a commonality: versatile actor Aldis Hodge, who has played all these personas and is back in action with a new caper film hitting the masses this week. Aldis Hodge expresses support for Kingsley Ben-Adir's performance in Bob Marley: One Love, praising his approach and talent. Ben-Adir continues his trend of playing real-life figures, following acclaimed performances as Malcolm X and Barack Obama. Bob Marley: One Love is a promising exploration of Marley's legacy, and Reinaldo Marcus Green's own acclaimed history in the biographical genre adds to the anticipation.
As his former co-star's biopic return nears, Aldis Hodge shares his glowing support for Kingsley Ben-Adir's turn in Bob Marley: One Love. If a Hawkman return isn't in the cards for Aldis Hodge, the Black Adam actor knows which other superhero he'd be open to playing in the forthcoming DC Universe.
"I mean, look, I'm open for whatever," Hodge told ComicBook.com during an interview to promote his upcoming movie Marmalade. "I would love to live out the rest of the legacy of Hawkman because we had some amazing plans for him. But also, with John Stewart in sort of a live-action capacity. I mean, I've voiced John Stewart in the animated space for years now. Few years. Phil Lamarr passed the baton. Shout out to Phil because I'm a big fan of his work. But if that became a film adaptation, absolutely. I mean, that was one of my dreams growing up was to be John Stewart in live action. So yeah."

Marmalade's storytelling device is effective, keeping the audience engaged as the tale unfolds. The performances of Joe Keery, Camila Morrone, and Aldis Hodge enhance the film. The movie starts slow but picks up pace, turning into a twisty cat-and-mouse chase.
One of the characters in Marmalade starts a story with the infamous phrase "Once upon a time," only to be swiftly shut down by his companion. This isn't a fairytale, and there isn't time for sentimental wanderings. And yet, Marmalade soon defies expectations, even when you might guess where things are going. Director Keir O'Donnell, who also wrote the script, starts out in a rather conventional place, but lures us into a false sense of security. I thought I had Marmalade all worked out in my head and even found myself relaxing into the predictable series of events before I was forced to sit up and pay closer attention.

Black Adam star Aldis Hodge is willing and ready to return as Carter Hall/Hawkman in James Gunn's DC Universe.
During an interview with Screen Rant to promote the heist comedy Marmalade, Hodge was asked if he had spoken with DC Studios about reprising his Black Adam role in a future Dcu project. "I can't really speak to that," the actor coyly responded with a chuckle. "You're gonna have to talk to James about it. But yeah, I don't know really what's in store for Hawkman. I will say that I would like to finish out the plans that we had for Hawkman, and sort of revisit them, because there's such a body of depth when it comes to his whole storyline, and all that kind of stuff. So, if that's something they're interested in, my door's always open for that. But, I know they want to build out a very different world.

Actor turned director Keir O’Donnell’s first feature behind the camera is a primary coloured effort with some smart plot twists
Although largely comic in tone, this frothy thriller is obviously modelled on classic films noir, with their tales of betrayal and cunning, gullible heroes tricked into crime by femmes fatales, and the ever-present backbeat of quiet economic desperation. But Keir O’Donnell, a character actor making his writing-directing debut, has juiced up the formula with a palette of poppy primary colours and bright stabs of pink, and an ironic, self-mocking tone. That should help this slip down easy with new-generation viewers who may never have seen such classics as The Postman Always Rings Twice or Double Indemnity, let alone later remakes or homages like Body Heat or Blue Velvet.
It also helps that O’Donnell has cast Gen-z-star-on-the-rise Joe Keery (Steve from Stranger Things) as protagonist Baron, a guileless poor...

Actor Aldis Hodge has not heard any updates about a possible The Invisible Man 2. Hodge says it would be "awesome" and he'd be "definitely down" to do a sequel if it ever gets greenlit. The prospects of an Invisible Man sequel seem less likely the more time that passes after its 2020 premiere.
The Invisible Man star Aldis Hodge has shared his insight into the potential for The Invisible Man 2 to get made. In the 2020 adaptation of the H.G. Wells novel of the same name, Hodge starred as James Lanier, a longtime friend of Cecilia Kass (Elisabeth Moss), who believes she is being tormented by her supposedly dead abusive partner (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) who can seemingly become invisible. Although the movie's theatrical release was cut short by shutdowns during the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, it was a smash hit, earning $144.5 million against its $7 million budget.

Aldis Hodge is hopeful to continue his role as Hawkman in James Gunn's DC Universe and would like to finish out the plans for the character's story. Gunn and Hodge have not had any discussions about Hodge's future in the Dcu, but Hodge is open to the possibility and willing to have a conversation. There are multiple possibilities for Hodge's return, including reprising his role as Hawkman or playing a new character in the franchise. The Dcu is also open to working with prior DC actors, as seen with Jason Momoa rumored to be playing Lobo.

Keir O'Donnell, who played Todd in the original Wedding Crashers, has heard rumors of a potential sequel and expressed enthusiasm about returning to the role. Before “Rain on Me” by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande and “Kiss Me More” by Doja Cat and Sza became Grammy-winning female collabs, there was a combo of women that managed to snag a big win in the pop field: Christina Aguilera’s “Lady Marmalade” featuring Pink, Lil Kim, and Mýa. The star-studded collaboration, a cover of the number-one hit made famous by the group Labelle, solidified all four artists as pop mainstays, and made history at the Grammys as a diverse, all-female win.
The 2001 “Lady Marmalade” was released in April of that year as part of the soundtrack for “Moulin Rouge,” the Oscar-winning Baz Luhrmann film. The track was quite unusual, on paper. Pink, Lil Kim, Mýa, and Aguilera made very different music, ranging from pop to hip-hop to R&b. On top of that, the track was produced by the iconic Missy Elliott, giving it yet more star cred.

Camila Morrone’s emergence as a red carpet star experienced an interruption in 2023 with the SAG-AFTRA strike, but her evolution is back in full force with the 2024 awards season, as evidenced by the ethereal look the Daisy Jones & The Six co-star wore to the 29th Critics Choice Awards on Sunday, Jan 14.

Joe Keery’s Dark Fargo Season 5 Role Is A Great Reminder To Watch This Horror Movie From 4 Years Ago
Joe Keery's role in Fargo challenges the perception that he can only play lighthearted characters, showcasing his range as an actor. Keery's performance in Spree, a lesser-known horror film, proves his ability to bring a dark and disturbing character to life. Keery's upcoming project in 2024, Marmalade, will further demonstrate his versatility as an actor with a romantic heist film.
Joe Keery's dark role in season 5 of Fargo serves as a reminder to watch a great horror film that was released four years ago. After landing the role of Steve Harrington in Stranger Things, Keery's career has been on an upward trajectory. "It's me and you against the whole wide world." Brainstorm Media along with Signature Ent. have revealed an official trailer for an indie thriller titled Marmalade, marking the feature directorial debut of actor Keir O'Donnell. It's set for a small theatrical + VOD launch in early February coming up in just a few weeks. The "edge-of-the-seat crime-tinged romance tale" film follows a man in prison who narrates the colorful tale of a romantic bank heist to his cunning cellmate, in order to plot an escape and reunite with the alluring love of his life. His cellmate Otis is a man with a well-versed history of prison breaks, and two try to help reunite Baron with her. Joe Keery stars as Baron, with Aldis Hodge as Otis, and Camila Morrone as Keery's lover Marmalade. This was filmed in & around Minnesota, including in Stillwater. This just makes me want to watch The Shawshank Redemption all over again.
