“Black Snow” dates back to the time when the cinema of the People’s Republic, which had come to a virtual standstill due to the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976) and was barely noticeable internationally, was awakening from its deep sleep. Director Xie Fei, who was already 48 years old at the time of completion, is still considered one of the recognized greats today, not least because of his long-term work as a professor at the renowned Beijing Film Academy.

In Black Snow season 2’s ending, a town finally finds closure regarding a cold case that was starved of the truth for two decades. Zoe Jacobs’ death opened a can of worms that was hard for Moorevale to contain. The cabal, composed of corporate cronies, politicians, and the Jacobs family, has consistently bound Moorevale to a culture of longstanding exploitation. If Season 1 sheds light on the experience of exploitation in the lower rungs of Australian society, Black Snow season 2 makes us acquainted with the power imbalance that pervades the supposedly upscale community.

Travis Fimmel's Underrated Crime Drama Dives Into a Haunting Cold Case and Buried Small Town Secrets
Before Travis Fimmel appeared as Desmond Hart in Dune: Prophecy, he brought another fascinating character to life on the small screen. Black Snow, an Australian crime drama that originally aired in the U.S. on AMC+ in 2023, follows his character, Detective James Cormack, as he tries to solve an intriguing cold case. The series is able to accomplish something many crime dramas aren't able to. It actually dives into the life of the victim, and it accurately depicts the long-lasting effects of a murder on the victim's loved ones and on a small town itself. Now available to stream on Prime Video, the series (with just six episodes) is well worth a watch.

The Flats, a film about The Troubles in Northern Ireland, won the top award at Cph:dox in Copenhagen at a Friday night, earning a €10,000 prize.
The documentary directed by Alessadra Celisia takes place in “New Lodge in the center of Belfast, a neighborhood still haunted by the nearly 30-year conflict between Catholics and Protestants which officially ended in 1998.”
In their citation, the jury called the film witty, multi-layered, profound and provocative. They wrote, “Our main award recognizes not only creative and conceptual daring, but a filmmaker with the humility to realize when the story outgrows its framework, and the confidence to follow where it, and its fantastically vivid characters lead. We live in a world of divisions, borders and locked gates. Coming like a conversation shouted through one of those locked gates, our winning film is a collective portrait of several proud, funny, resourceful individuals, who would be willing to...

Penn, who stars and serves as executive producer on the show, will participate in a panel discussion with Fox and Curry. The session will see them discuss ways in which the series explores themes of identity, fame and social media absurdities.
Landing a Hollywood star like Penn is a massive coup for Mipcom, which has sought to raise its profile within a competitive landscape for industry events.

Susan Sarandon, playing the U.S. Secretary of State Alaska Adams, gets the better of Bryan Brown, as the Australian prime minister, in a fast-paced verbal duel that represents the first footage from the Sean Penn-produced satirical comedy series “C*A*U*G*H*T.”
An elite team of Aussie soldiers is sent to an island nation to retrieve a secret file that has gone astray. Mistaken for Americans, they are captured by freedom fighters and produce a hostage video that goes viral. When the soldiers achieve celebrity status on social media, they realize that being caught might just be the best thing that could’ve happened to them.
“C*A*U*G*H*T” explores themes of identity, fame, and the absurdity of the viral age. “Why can’t we comedically deconstruct the intellectual ideas that humanity is facing right now?” says Kick Gurry who directs, produces and stars in the six-part series.
