It was absolute madness, a total riot! The kind of bizarre situations the newlywed couple, played by Yami Gautam and I, finds themselves in over the course of one night is something I could never have imagined or read anywhere. Can it be called a story of ‘lovers-on-the-run’ if we don’t have an authority-defying couple at the heart of the drama, and if it only involves a minor lie on their part to secure a chicken curry dinner? Perhaps a question I’ll be mulling over for some time. However, the same cannot be my guarantee about the new Netflix film Dhoom Dhaam. Primarily, the microgenre of “lovers-on-the-run” deals with a couple who has left a trail of crime in their wake and is now on the run. They are conspicuously anti-establishment, raging outlaws, and eternally doomed. Dhoom Dhaam does not live up to the glory of this cinematic wonder. The couple is on the run but desperately waits for the police to turn up, only to discover their larger ploy. In Dhoom Dhaam, the drama that unfolds largely spans over a single night and a little part of the day.

“Dhoom Dhaam” is a film that draws deeply on its regional origins while offering moments that speak to viewers around the world. The narrative begins with a married couple, Koyal and Veer, whose wedding night is quickly upended by unexpected danger. This sudden twist brings to light the cultural elements of an arranged marriage in Mumbai, a setting that influences character behavior and social expectations.

The film presents its story in a manner that connects local traditions with elements of modern entertainment. Bollywood star Yami Gautam reveals her process in making “Article 370” and has addressed the issue of the film being banned in the Middle East.

A political action thriller, the film deals with the events leading to the 2019 revocation of Article 370 of the Indian constitution, which granted special status to the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, some parts of which are under dispute between India, Pakistan and China since independence from the British Empire in 1947.

Gautam plays Kashmiri Indian National Intelligence Agency officer Zooni Haksar who is sent back to Kashmir by Prime Minister’s Office official Rajeshwari Swaminathan on a mission to achieve the revocation with minimal bloodshed.

Jio Studios, the content arm of Reliance Industries Limited, has unveiled a huge slate of 100 new films and TV shows that will play on Reliance’s streaming platforms.

They range from the previously-announced Shah Rukh Khan-starring Bollywood movie project “Dunki,” through Adil Hussain’s Bengali-language art-house picture “The Storyteller,” which appeared at the Busan Film Festival last year, to a range of web originals and mini-series.

Contents are made as originals in a range of local languages including Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati and Bhojpuri. Genres range from action, drama, thriller and romance to horror and musicals.

The company called the lineup “the single largest slate ever produced by an Indian studio in a given year” while also calling it a “game changer” and “explosive.”

Mumbai, April 12 (Ians) Actor Nana Patekar is set to make his Ott debut with the upcoming series titled ‘Laal Batti’, a political thriller helmed by Prakash Jha.

The project was unveiled on Wednesday as a part of the content slate of Jio Studios. The star-studded event was held at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. Over 100+ stories in multiple languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Bhojpuri and southern languages, across genres of films and original web series are lined up for release.

Some of the biggest directors of Hindi cinema, including Raj Kumar Hirani, Sooraj Barjatya, Ali Abbas Zafar, Aditya Dhar, Prakash Jha, Amar Kaushik and Laxman Utekar, will be releasing their projects as a part of the slate.

Reliance Industries’ Indian content arm Jio Studios has unveiled a huge slate of films and streaming shows at a star-studded event in Mumbai. It also struck a production deal with Bengali film powerhouse Svf Entertainment.

The slate titles comprise projects for the Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, South and Bhojpuri markets, and span action, drama, thriller, comedy, romance, biopics, horror and musicals.

The studio was launched in 2018, around the same time Indian streaming content began to boom as international players such as Netflix and Prime Video and local services such as ZEE5 Global and SonyLIV began to pump cash into their local originals slates.

The Svf agreement will see Jio Studios and the Bengali company working to create blockbuster-sized features from creators such as Dhrubo Banerjee, Raj Chakraborty, Anirban Bhattacharya and Srijit Mukherji that star the likes of Mithun Chakraborty, Prosenjit Chatterjee and Jisshu Sengupta.
