Alan Smithee (2012)
'Alan Smithee' is a film about a boy growing up. It delves into the darker side of what 'growing up' sometimes means: growing into your flaws, inevitably being met with the errors of your parents, and the necessity to make room for the pain. While Alan is surrounded by what is thought to be the American ideal, all the material comforts that should equate happiness, he learns that sometimes all we are is lost in the woods.

My world is falling apart in my home!

The perception of the picture is very deep. Growing up an American teenager in an ordinary, seemingly, family opens the viewer to the hidden sides of personal views, experiences and fears. Showing his independence, Alan runs into new barriers to relationships. The guilt of adults is felt more than ever. Their eternal problems, deception, hypocrisy and desire to create the appearance of a good life, despite the huge layer of mistakes made. Alan is not able to tolerate this - he tries to assert himself as an independent person in every way.

The film makes you plunge into the very depths of human vices of our time. Under the guise of various reasons, the adult world does not notice the horrors of the rules of the game, which he himself invented. The young hero, for whom these rules are alien, simultaneously shows himself a rebel and at the same time becomes part of an unpleasant reality. Falling into these traps (such as meeting two girls in the woods), Alan gets more and more imprints with a "minus" sign and a "loud" misunderstanding of what is happening.

The theme of mutual understanding between parents and children is particularly acute here. The scene in the room with my father, perhaps, most vividly sums up the whole problem of this story. To be able and to want are two different things. Sometimes we know how... But we don't really want to. Avoid. Because adults are blinded by the temptations from which their "eternal problems"are born. And it is only necessary to stop thinking about it, as in one beautiful moment there is an explosion. A deafening explosion.

And somewhere in the background, Life still mocks us and whispers: "Boom!"
