Many fans will be introduced to live-action Nani actress Sydney Agudong for the first time in the Lilo & Stitch remake when the film launches this year on May 23.

Agudong will bring to life Lilo's older sister and guardian in the upcoming live-action Lilo & Stitch movie, marking the 25-year-old's first major starring role. 

Before appearing in the 2025 Disney movie, Agudong's previous credits include NCIS, Infamously in Love, and On My Block.

Disney's remake of Lilo & Stitch cast a mix of familiar and fresh-faced actors to play the live-action versions of its beloved animated characters. One of the rare truly original works from Walt Disney Animation Studios, the original Lilo & Stitch was released in 2002 and was a significant sleeper hit despite its lack of preexisting source material. The theatrical feature spawned three direct-to-video sequels and an animated series on the Disney Channel. Now, as seems obligatory for every animated classic from the studio, Disney is giving Lilo & Stitch the live-action treatment.

This live-action version of Lilo & Stitch joins its counterparts on Disney Plus without heading to theaters first, as has been the case with a number of Disney's live-action remakes. Outside the built-in familiarity with the property, the movie has no big box office draw among its cast members, only one of whom is reprising their role from the original.

Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch has found its Nani, Lilo’s older sister and legal guardian, in Sydney Elizabeth Agudong, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Disney declined to comment.

Newcomer Maia Kealoha is playing Lilo, while Zach Galifianakis joined the cast in February. Stitch, naturally, will be a CG confection. Dean Fleischer Camp, the filmmaker behind indie darling and best animated feature Oscar nominee Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, is directing the remake that is intended to be a major release on Disney+.

The Hawaii-centric story tells of the bond formed between a lonely human girl named Lilo and a dog-like alien named Stitch, who was genetically engineered to be a force of destruction. With nosy social workers and pursuing aliens banging on the door, the two bond over a shared sense of family and win the day.
