This movie is laughable. Yes, I gave it a few stars. Here is why: the main girl is cute and in a couple scenes she was good, the script was fine- the story does have some potential, with a different production budget it could have been a good HM movie, and umm yea that's it's.
I almost turned it off at the beginning in the "intimate backstage performance" that introduces out main characters to each other. It's laughable. The sound is soooo off. She is this huge pop star and nobody knows the lyrics, people are sitting right next to her, it's just I can't even explain how awful this is.
His store isn't cool. Ok so he may have a good selection but they talk about him resoinf and the decorating and aesthetic, there is none. "Is the wood original?" What. Seriously? And when she redid it? The Christmas lights on one wall, a few terrible T-shirt's, etc. It's just no. Not at all.
Gosh there are so many other parts I can talk about but it's bad. The faux singing, the acting, the production quality, some of the lines, camera work, sets, it's all just not good.

The whole mise-en-scène comes off as one or a group of people that had binge watched romantic and romantic-comedies looking for what seemed to incarnate certain feelings and then pound then into a script. There is no natural flow to the story.
The acting, though not overly painful to watch, came across the some way as the script. Whomever was in charge of monitoring the glucose level of the actors and actresses missed the mark. The sap, instead of coming out in subtle rhythm was spurting out from too many cuts with a dull knife.
The general story has been done over and over aggain to the point of death and that's okay but this movie seemed to want to end the valentine permanently, get their pay checks and run.

I love these hallmark style romcoms. I find them oddly comforting. And this one was super clever. The leads actually had chemistry and I truly couldn't wait for them to finally kiss at the end... for the second time! Love the name of Ivys song - party time (it's time to party) - very fun. The whole film had that vibe. Dug it! Liked both the leads but the main actress is a star.
Also I don't know if dear point is a real place but I loved the vibe. And the throwback record store made me super nostalgic. And also a backyard date under the stars eating burgers is my personal dream so thank you for making me feel seen!

One of those feel-good roms that just makes your day better. Charming cast, great story. And (Finally) an earned relationship by the end!!
The Karina character is the perfect comic relief and the chemistry between the two leads is undeniable. I completely understand why Jen Freeman works so much. She's so compelling to watch!!
The movie really sings once they enter the small town. I felt myself wanting to hang out with these three characters. They were such a sweet & fun friend group.
Kudos to the writing. So often rom-coms rely on tropes or weird set pieces (can we retire the flash mob please??) to manufacture connection. This one was all about the relationship building.
Definitely adding to my rewatch list.

Bad acting. Really bad dialogue. No chemistry between the leads. Some really lame gags. And what little story exists is totally derivative. I can think of several movies where a pop star is frustrated with how micromanaged she is by the label and her agent so she escapes from that life.
Jennifer Freeman does some singing. None of those occurrences appealed to me.
Freeman's character Jamie is appealing at times despite the less than stellar acting.
The side story with Karinna had potential. There was some connection between Sydney Agudong and Freeman. Agudong is the only decent thing about the movie.
