Fans of Bridgerton and French literature rejoice, as Season 1 standout Regé-Jean Page is working with independent production company Department M on an adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' The Count of Monte Cristo. The announcement — via an exclusive report from Deadline — shared that Pagewill not only star in the film, but also produce it, alongside his producing partner Emily Brown under their A Mighty Stranger banner. Also on board to bring the classic tale of revenge to life is writer Patrick Ness, who also penned Chaos Walking and A Monster Calls.
The Count of Monte Cristo is the story of Edmond Dantès, a man falsely accused of treason, who is thrown into the grim prison Château d'If without trial. Dantès learns from fellow prisoner, Abbé Faria, about the location of a fabulous treasure and, after escaping and finding the cache of wealth, becomes part of high society and enters the world of...

The classic novel has been adapted to the screen countless times over the years, most recently in the 2024 movie The Count of Monte Cristo.
Now, another adaptation is in the works, and a Bridgerton star is leading the brigade. According to Deadline, Regé-Jean Page has signed on to star in and produce a new Count of Monte Cristomovie from the independent studio Department M. Tom Holland's look for The Odyssey is unveiled in new photos from the set of Christopher Nolan's epic. Serving as his follow-up to the acclaimed Oppenheimer in 2023, Nolan's take on Homer's epic story chronicles the story of Matt Damon's Odysseus as he embarks on a long and arduous journey home following the Trojan War. The Odyssey's cast, like Oppenheimer's, features an array of impressive talent, including Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal, among others. It hasn't yet been confirmed who Holland is playing in the film.
Now, thanks to new images from @UnBoxPHD on X, formerly Twitter, Holland's The Odyssey's look has been revealed. One image shows Holland in a brown cloak standing just in front of Nolan on a large wooden ship, with the latter sporting a red life jacket. Crew members are visible behind the pair, attending to the ship's rigging.

Quick LinksWhat Is Daisy Ridley's Cleaner About?Cleaner Has Direct Die Hard Parallels
The following contains spoilers for Cleaner, now playing in theaters.
The Die Hard movies are arguably the gold standard for action films. Even if they aren't someone's favorite, it's hard to deny they elevated the genre. To this day, fans adore Bruce Willis' John McClane and how many terrorists he fought in this franchise, creating some of the entertainment industry's most rollicking rides.
It molded the iconic Gruber brothers, who are some of cinema's most fearsome criminals. Another big reason why it's so beloved is how it nailed the concept of hostages being taken, whether in skyscrapers or airports. One 2025 British thriller has that same energy, and it features one of Hollywood's biggest names: Daisy Ridley in Martin Campbell's Cleaner.

One would be forgiven for not noticing, but Daisy Ridley, of "Star Wars" fame, had a new movie arrive in theaters over the weekend. Indeed, as director Oz Perkins' Stephen King adaptation "The Monkey" crushed it and Marvel's "Captain America: Brave New World" once again topped the charts, "Cleaner" arrived with hardly any fanfare. This is even more surprising when we consider the fact that "Casino Royale" director Martin Campbell was at the helm. Yet, it doesn't make it any less true.
Quiver Distribution's action flick "Cleaner" debuted on just 378 screens in the U.S., taking in a mere $426,150, making for a not-at-all-great per-screen average of just over $1,100. This one is going to be lucky to hold onto those relatively few screens in the coming weeks, meaning it will be lucky to clear $1 million domestically. That's ... not good.

Spider-Man 4 doesn't appear to be taking shape quite as quickly as some fans would like. However, it remains on track for a July 2026 release.
Tom Holland and Zendaya are already confirmed to star and there are lots of vague rumblings doing the rounds about everything from the villain to supporting cast. Of course, only time will tell whether we get another Multiversal tale or a long-overdue street-level adventure.
While we'd advise taking this with a pinch of salt, scooper @MyTimeToShineH today brings word that, "Marvel is considering Daisy Ridley for a role in Spider-Man 4."
There's no word on who she could play but at 32, she's only four years older than Holland so could easily be a new love interest for the web-slinger. Black Cat has been suggested by some fans on social media, with others making a case for the likes of Gwen Stacy and even Spider-Woman.

Daisy Ridley will always be inseparable from the role of Rey in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, but in the six years that she’s been away from a galaxy Far, Far Away, she’s also featured in some projects that have flown under the radar. Her first major post-Star Wars role came two years after The Rise of Skywalker in Chaos Walking, the sci-fi adventure which she stars alongside MCU veteran Tom Holland, and she has also appeared in projects like The Marsh King’s Daughter with Ben Mendelsohn and Young Woman and the Sea with Stephen Graham. During a recent Q&a with Collider’s Steve Weintraub, where Leah Marilla Thomas was also in attendance, to promote her new movie, Cleaner, Ridley was asked which of her movies she wishes more people would have seen, and her answer might surprise you:...

Tom Holland has cemented his status as a major movie star simply by virtue of becoming this generation's Spider-Man. No matter what he does, he will remain immortalized in the annals of superhero movie history. But the actor surely has ambitions outside of playing the web-slinger, and his attempts to branch out speak to the extent of that ambition.
Holland is in the midst of taking a well-earned break from acting after having failed to cause much of a stir with his non-Marvel projects. Aside from the anticlimactic "Uncharted" video game adaptation, he starred in another disappointing adaptation in the form of Dough Liman's grim take on the "Chaos Walking" book trilogy from author Patrick Ness. Holland also tried his best to save the bloated mess of a film that was the Russo brothers' "Cherry," before delivering yet another underwhelming project with Apple TV+'s "The Crowded Room." Before the Uncharted movie would finally be released in theaters in 2022, there were plenty of production troubles and several changes in directors. One such director attached to the project at one point was Seth Gordon, who just had his latest movie, Back in Action, released on Netflix this past weekend. While it was Ruben Fleischer who ultimately ended up directing the project, Gordon's role in the film's pre-production was essential to the final version.
In an exclusive interview with Collider, Gordon divulged details about how his work on the film would overlap with Fleischer's film production, before the Sony email leaks eventually led to him exiting the adaptation. Specifically, it was a member of the director's crew for his 2025 Netflix film that also ended up working on Uncharted in 2021. Here is what Gordon had to say specifically about how much of his vision ended up in the final product:

The guy from Spider-Man and the girl from Star Wars in a dystopian thriller? Sounds like the perfect recipe for box office success. Believe it or not, this was a reality for a very short while in 2021. The movie in question was based on British American author Patrick Ness’ series of three science fiction books that were released 13 years prior. While the novels were all award winners in their own right (mostly from the teen category), the much anticipated big-screen adaptation was anything but. Rumor has it that Lionsgate Films, the distributor, wrote the film off during its opening week! The Uncharted cast brings the beloved characters to life in the long-delayed and much-anticipated video game adaptation. Directed by Ruben Fleischer from a screenplay by Rafe Judkins, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway, Uncharted was released in theaters in February 2022 following several years of production and pandemic delays. The film follows treasure hunter Nathan Drake, played by MCU star Tom Holland and the Uncharted cast helps to bring some of the other characters from the popular games to the big screen.
Years after leaving an orphanage, Nathan “Nate” Drake (Holland), now in his 20s, works as a bartender in New York City when he’s approached by Victor “Sully” Sullivan, a treasure hunter who asks Nate for help recovering billions of dollars worth of Magellan’s lost golden artifacts. Per the National Board of Review, Erivo was recently asked if there was any particular "dream role" she wanted to manifest. Tom Holland is suiting up, this time to play a lawyer, in the upcoming adaptation of John Grisham’s novel “The Partner” for Universal Pictures.
The actor, who rose to fame playing Peter Parker in Sony’s “Spider-Man” trilogy, will also serve as a producer on the film, which is being written by “The Imitation Game” scribe Graham Moore. The 1997 novel, published the year after Holland was born, follows a junior partner at a law firm who steals $90 million from a wealthy client, fakes his own death and flees to Brazil.
Universal had no comment about Holland’s attachment to the project, which was first reported by Deadline Hollywood.
It’s unclear when the project will take shape. Holland has a busy film schedule, including Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” “Spider-Man 4” and potentially the next “Avengers” sequels, over the next year and change.

Tom Holland has had a bit of a rough time outside of his Marvel exploits. In 2022 Holland announced that he'd be taking a well-earned break which will likely do the actor some good considering his career choices of late. Alongside his role as the wall-crawler Spider-Man, the British actor led a disappointing adaptation of the "Uncharted" video game and the bloated mess of a film that was the Russo brothers' "Cherry." Then there was Doug Liman's "Chaos Walking" that saw Holland trapped in a decidedly grim and shockingly late attempt to cash in on the YA dystopian craze. Even Apple TV, which has been churning out a stream of great streaming series in recent years, couldn't help Holland, who's "The Crowded Room" was met with negative reviews.

Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley are two young stars in the prime of their careers. Holland has been our Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man for almost a decade now, while Ridley has been killing it in some small genre gems after headlining Disney’s Star Wars sequel trilogy wrapped up in 2019. That has included Sometimes I Think About Dying and Magpie. However, the pair also starred in Chaos Walking. The film was a box office bomb, but you can now watch this YA adaptation for free.

Tom Holland is a huge name in the industry right now. Though he has been acting since he was a child, he has shot up in fame since making his debut as everyone's favorite webslinger in Spider-Man: Homecoming back in 2017. Since then, the MCU has become the pinnacle of Holland's career. Three of these movies have made it into the top 10 highest-grossing films of all time at the worldwide box office, including Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Despite his success in the MCU, Holland's other films have often struggled to gain significant traction. His YA adaptation series attempt with Chaos Walking, for example, was a massive flop and did not get a sequel. He also teamed up with Avengers co-star Robert Downey Jr. in the 2020 film Dolittle, which underperformed at the box office, making $251.4 million on an estimated $175 million budget. Daisy Ridley is best known for playing Rey Skywalker in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, but she's also an acclaimed actor who's starred in a variety of great movies that weren't set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. Star Wars movies have, for better or worse, defined Ridley's career. Star Wars: The Force Awakens was Ridley's big break in Hollywood, and she's now returning to the franchise in the upcoming movie New Jedi Order. In the competitive world of science fiction cinema, a gripping premise does not always result in success. This was shown in the 2021 film Chaos Walking, which, despite its novel premise and star-studded ensemble, failed to captivate fans and critics.
The film’s box office loss was $13 million. It boasted an excellent lineup, including Daisy Ridley, who played Rey in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, and Tom Holland. Doug Liman, known for hit films like The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow, directed the cast, which includes renowned actors such as Mads Mikkelsen, Nick Jonas, and Cynthia Erivo.
“Chaos Walking” takes place in a dystopian world in which all women have inexplicably disappeared. The remaining guys are affected by “the Noise,” a condition in which their thoughts are revealed to others. The story revolves around Todd, who meets Viola, a girl whose presence produces an amazing stillness in this noisy world.

In 2021, Daisy Ridley starred in Chaos Walking, a sci-fi action movie with a premise so good that it should have been a massive hit, but ended up being panned by critics. Back in 2015, Ridley got her breakout role as Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. For three films, Ridley led the iconic sci-fi franchise through some incredible highs and disappointing lows. In this way, Ridley has come face to face with world-shattering success and devastating critique. However, as it turns out, Star Wars is not the only sci-fi epic Ridley has seen torn apart by viewers.
There are a number of reasons why Chaos Walking should have been a success. First and foremost, the cast was truly outstanding. Alongside Ridley, Chaos Walking starred Tom Holland, Mads Mikkelsen, Nick Jonas, and Cynthia Erivo. On top of that, the movie was directed by Doug Liman, who saw previous success with films like Mr. and Mrs.

The Star Wars sequel trilogy may not have ended on the highest note it could have, but that didn't stop the actors involved from having successful careers. In fact, despite the mixed audience reception to The Last Jedi and the critical failings of The Rise of Skywalker, actors such as Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, and John Boyega would go on to star in more exciting films.

Holland, meanwhile, was equally incandescent after becoming the MCU’s plucky Peter Parker beginning in Captain America: Civil War, and continuing through a series of appearances both in Spider-Man standalone films, and Avengers blockbusters.
Life outside the franchise bubble has been difficult for Ridley and Holland, however, as both young stars have seen their non-Disney projects meet with lukewarm critical and commercial response. Ridley’s starring vehicles Sometimes I Think About Dying, Magpie, The Marsh King’s Daughter, and Young Woman and the Sea came and went without much fanfare. Jon Watts and Christopher Ford are reuniting for a nostalgic journey through a galaxy far, far away in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. While the latter made his writing debut with the sci-fi dramedy Robot & Frank, Watts and Ford enjoyed their rise to success by teaming with each other for the 2014 horror movie Clown, the crime thriller Cop Car and the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man: Homecoming. As Watts became busy with the webslinging trilogy, Ford went on to write and produce the well-received coming-of-age thriller The Clovehitch Killer and rewrite the adaptation of Chaos Walking.
With Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, the duo are working in tandem as the creators and showrunners for the latest installment of the Lucasfilm franchise. The Disney+ show focuses on a group of children from a suburban Republic planet who, after discovering a derelict spaceship, venture off and become stranded in the galaxy far from home.

The filmmakers behind Harriet were tasked with securing a Harriet cast talented enough to bring the real-life figures behind Harriet Tubmans story to life alongside some fictional and composite characters. The 2019 film, directed by Kasi Lemmons, follows the events of Tubman's life, focusing on her escape from slavery and subsequent rescue missions as part of the Underground Railroad, which cemented her legacy as an American icon. Harriet takes some creative liberties, including inventing and amalgamating characters for the sake of narrative efficiency, but the broad strokes stay true to history.
Harriet saw a long journey to the screen, with co-writer Gregory Allen Howard first pitching the biopic under the title Freedom Fire in 1994. Howard recalls that one studio executive wanted Julia Roberts to play Harriet Tubman. Thankfully, the final film is more respectful when it comes to casting Harriets real-life figures. That paid off, as the films talented ensemble is a highlight,...

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon showrunner David Zabel opened up about the creative teams decision to move the shows location for Season 3. The horror drama has just recently wrapped up its 6-episode second season, which is now currently available for streaming on AMC+.
During a recent interview with THR, Zabel explained that changing Daryl Dixon Season 3s location was necessary in order to give them the opportunity to reinvent The Walking Dead spinoff. He also teased that the shows location will continue to change in future seasons. "The characters should not settle down. It should be a road show. They have to keep moving [to return home]," Zabel said. "At the end of Season 2, theyre going somewhere. We dont know exactly where, and its not a direct line to the next place they go. As Lucasfilm continues to sort out the production-related issues surrounding the upcoming Rey Skywalker film, Daisy Ridley recently revealed what returning to the Star Wars franchise means to her, and how the prospect of reprising her role after so many years comes with a bit of fear.
Ridley had her career breakthrough moment when she starred as Rey in Star Wars: Episode VII -The Force Awakens, and would reprise her role in the subsequent sequels, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. It appeared after the release of Episode 9, that the story was over for the new cast of characters. Lucasfilm had capped off the Skywalker Saga, with sights on new horizons for the franchise. Star Wars began shifting their projects to Disney+, primarily focusing on television shows, but at Star Wars Celebration in 2023, Lucasfilm made the stunning announcement that Ridley would return to the franchise, starring in her own standalone film.

Tom Hollands movies outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been very hit-and-miss, but his casting in the lead role of Christopher Nolans latest project all but guarantees him a critical and commercial hit. Nolan is reteaming with Universal, the studio that scored him Oscar wins and box office success for Oppenheimer, for his next movie. Plot details are being kept under wraps Nolan hasnt even revealed the genre of his new project but Nolans involvement alone is enough to make this one exciting. Tom Holland is set to return as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the coming years, but his new role in Christopher Nolan's next movie is even more exciting. Since breaking out with the life-changing superhero casting and his debut as Peter Parker in 2016, Holland's career has primarily been defined by playing the web-slinger. This is set to continue with him returning for Spider-Man 4 with Marvel Studios and Sony. While that film and his expected appearances in the two upcoming Avengers movies are highly anticipated, news that Holland will star in Christopher Nolan's new film is massive.

Tom Holland had tasted fame at an unprecedented level at a very early age. For the British star, Hollywood was his playground sandbox and movies were his medium of first expression. But with such an exposed world also comes its pitfalls which, in the case of Tinsel Town, often claim a very steep price.
In the years since his Marvel fame, Holland found the price was asking too much of his sanity, peace, and mental health. His function as a celebrity in modern society was getting increasingly demanding, from signing autographs and taking pictures to bearing the brunt of dissenting fans and tabloids who could not comprehend his need to log out of social media.

Tom Holland may have started late as an actor when he made his film debut in 2012 with The Impossible, but he didn’t take long to launch to extraordinary heights of love and fame in fans’ hearts. While his tenure in the MCU as the fan-favorite Spider-Man was one to boost his career, the actor hasn’t hesitated to let his brilliance be known in other projects as well.

But after a decade since he professionally jumped into this profession, it seems like Holland’s movie star status might as well be on the line. This is because his movies outside the web-slinger’s universe don’t quite seem to perform all that well, especially in critics’ eyes. If anything, fans even deem his upcoming reported project to be his “last chain” to retain that status.

The love for Star Wars has spanned generations. With the films creating a cultural phenomenon that extends beyond the screen, fans have been drawn to the imaginative world-building, and iconic characters like Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Princess Leia.
Although each film in the franchise has found a special place in the hearts of fans, the newer films wound up leaving a sour taste in the back of their throats. The displeasure may have started with the viewers. However, it looks like even some actors, like Daisy Ridley, were not too impressed.

They say necessity is the mother of invention. That was certainly the case for director Doug Liman, who needed to film a quick scene for a movie and accidentally created an entirely new trend of movie aesthetics. The "shaky cam" technique is used in a number of films today, particularly "found footage" films, but its use was popularized by Matt Damon's Jason Bourne films and from one scene in particular from the first film.
In an interview with IGN, while discussing his favorite scenes from his biggest movies, Liman points to a brief scene in his 2002 film The Bourne Identity for pioneering the "shaky cam" aesthetic. The movie is considered a classic modern action film because of its unique style, typified by one scene in particular. The scene, which occurs about 49 minutes into the movie, is brief and involves Matt Damon's Bourne entering the Gare du Nord train station...

Today, at Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, Marvel, Pixar, and the Disney Studios brands were showcased, but Lucasfilm fans were thrilled, too. On stage to update various Lucasfilm projects, President Kathleen Kennedy revealed more details about the space childhood adventure series “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” and unveiled the first teaser trailer to the crowd.

I think I should preface my review of The Instigators with two things. Firstly, I had completely forgotten about this movie’s existence until the reviews from its limited theatrical release started to pop up on the internet. That can be the result of my ignorance or the bad marketing by Apple TV+. Since it has an incredibly stacked cast and yet it isn’t being plastered all over the internet and theaters (like the streaming platform did for Argylle), I’d put 90 percent of the blame regarding the lack of enthusiasm around the film on the marketing. Secondly, the awful reviews really confused me. I know that Doug Liman isn’t on the hot streak that he was enjoying until Edge of Tomorrow, but that doesn’t mean anything he touches should be disparaged because it’s not Edge of Tomorrow 2. Anyway, this is a long-winded way of...

The Instigators is a new film from Doug Liman, a director who burst onto the scene with the Sundance-rejected indie hit Swingers and the criminally underseen but ultra-cool Go. Yet, somehow, Liman transitioned from cult comedies to big-action Hollywood blockbusters with the first two films in The Bourne franchise and the film that made Jennifer Aniston a divorcee, Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
In addition to critically approved films like American Made and Fair Game, Liman has a filmography stacked with critical and box office disappointments. Real stinkers include the stagnant Chaos Walking, the forgettably campy Road House, the underwhelming Jumper, the obligatory Three Musketeers, and the streaming film Locked Down, which had many rooting for a Covid-19 victory.
Unfortunately, things will not improve with The Instigators, mainly because of a thoughtless and inattentive script that never bothers to sweat the details.
