A curious view of some Brazilian boys

"Brazilian Boys" is a fun and cool movie about the men who appear in the lives of some girls, in particular the boys from Brazil. The female side of the spectrum doesn't show up in the movie neither we hear about them except for the men they admire or know about. For boys out there, here's a small fragment about how women view you thanks to certain charateristics of yours: how do you talk, how do you act, how do you show yourself to the world.

Here's some descriptions: there's the athletic guy all into sports; the intellectual guy who's into books, poetry and listens to Smiths (as told in the sings shown all over each character); the surfer dude who keeps on dreaming of being with his girl on a cool beach around the world; the talky activist just spewing words - this one appears very briefly and there's even an exclamation point with a sigh of relief (sigh, he stopped talking); a hippie type floating in colors; and a punk rebel who is described as a low type who doesn't work, just stays up all night and sleeps all day, angry about everything; and some others who aren't so memorable in my mind right now.

I've read somewhere that this was an exposition of ideas (as told by two female directors/writers behind this) that this is a reflection of how they perceive the men around them, some they dated or just encountered in different times of life. Well, it kinda puts them all in labels and cliches but it's too hard to not see that kind of thing actually happening in life, the stereotypes and small variations between the people and the things they follow/like.

It's only when we actually get closer to the person that we truly find some variation, something different that a certain group usually does or like. It's simplistic but it's factual. True in the 1990's when this was made, before then and still true now. And some of us still try to see a person's true colors despite the brands they wear, the music, books and films they like, or the ideologies they have, because there's more than just that in a person.

Well, the short film. Humored, it makes a nice use of a soundtrack rather than having characters explaining themselves since it's all in the signs and captions that informs us about who are those men and what they're into. The makers of it make the experience something curious to be seen and analyzed. It's pretty good. 8/10.
