Women with baskets atop their heads march in single file past a row of huts. Occasionally, a woman merges from one of the huts to take her place in the seemingly endless parade.
With the rise of story films of various sorts, the simple actualities that Lumiere had specialized in from their first show was waning in popularity. They would fight back with the occasional comedy themselves, but just as often they would produce an actuality that showed their command of not only composition, but movement within the frame. Here, the line of women with baskets on their heads offers the eye a pleasing excuse to follow the frame from upper left to the bottom of the screen.
