With only one eye, his imposing build, and his almost sixty years of age, Raphael knows he scares people. With only one eye, his imposing build, and his almost sixty years of age, Raphael knows he scares people. With only one eye, his imposing build, and his almost sixty years of age, Raphael knows he scares people.

Wow, just wow! A simple, old story insanely beautifully told.
The sort of film the Americans could never ever make, only the French - eccentric and sensual, funny and poignant. Filmed in the most glorious colours and natural light almost flowing from the screen into the room. And the central character one of the most memorable faces and bodies in a film for a long time. Many of the images will linger. La Belle et la Bête, indeed. Don't miss this!
This is where I'd like to end my review, but IMDB insist on a minimum review length which I haven't quite reached yet. But really, just watch this film: images not words.

One of those rare films that stay with you long after the credits roll - a quality I rarely find to be present in modern cinema. Beautiful direction, performances and soundtrack.
Raphaël Thiéry is consistently fantastic in every frame. You empathize with him and are with him, emotionally, every step of the way and until the very end.
Ms. Tellenne is a director who enfuses each shot with so much power that it's evident she knows exactly what she wants to convey. A wonderful debutant director whose journey I am excited to follow.
Amaury Chabauty breaks your heart with his compositions.
Overall, a beautiful film.
