I sat down to watch this one expecting excruciating torture. But I was pleasantly surprised.
Somehow, Mr. Whitney makes this madcap bit of nonsense work in a weird kind of way. He has exactly the right mix of bewildered goofiness and phony bravado to pull this off.
He also owes a huge debt of gratitude to his co-starring piglet and especially to Miss Reiter, who is a delightfully edgy antagonist. I look forward to seeing more of her work on the big screen.
I recall Roger Ebert's test: does this movie succeed at what it sets out to accomplish? This one does.
TF2 is an outstanding movie to watch with your 10-and-under family members.
It is nearly impossible to find a movie that all my kids enjoy-16, 14, 10, & 5 yrs old. BUT... In Tooth Fairy 2, they all laughed and after it was over my 16 yr old said "that was pretty good" SCORE! Is it far fetched? YES! Is there some dumb humor? YES! SO....while not the best movie I've EVER seen, again, I challenge you to find something all my kids enjoy together.
Exceeded my expectations and provided laughs. THANKS!
(LOVE the fact that he wore a variety of Cabela's and Blackshirts caps too!)
Larry the Cable guy is great as stand-up, but when it comes to live acting movies, they're some of the worst ever, which may not be saying much. And I highly doubt many children actually know who Larry The Cable Guy comedian but the thing is the makers had to use him since they can't get anyone else. He stars as Larry who gets sent up to 'tooth heaven' to bring in 10 pieces of children's teeth otherwise his most cherished memory is going to be deleted from his head and out of his memory. And at the same time Larry's also fighting for the affection of a girl he's attracted to a much younger gentleman who's running for mayor. Intended for the simple minded and 8 year olds who love everything whatever is put on. Bomb.
Taking over from the Rock he plays.................well basically like every single movie he just plays himself. Nobody could ever accuse the guy of being a broad actor! He accidentally tells a child that the tooth fairy isn't real and gets forced into doing tooth fairy duty for a week. To make matters worse his ex-girlfriend is getting married and he's determined to win her back.
You'd assume this would be dire but truth be told it's actually on par with the original. I'd personally have liked to see Stephen Merchant return but I guess the lower budget didn't allow it.
Family "Fun" full of plenty of silly laughs and some of them surprisingly hit the mark. I even laughed at a fart joke out loud, and hated myself for doing so.
Despite his limitations Larry is a likeable enough character and does a decent job here with the hit and miss script. Sure it's daft, but what in the blue hell do you expect from something like this?
The Good:
A few laughs are to be had
The Bad:
Excessively silly in places
Ending felt rushed
Things I Learnt From This Movie:
That newspaper was ammazing
It gets dark at night
Not only does Larry have a tight deadline to meet with regards to collecting teeth, but he has to win his girlfriend back and convince a kid to believe in the Tooth Fairy again. Does he accomplish all this? Let's just say everything ends happily. This isn't Citizen Kane, but if you're in the mood for it this movie is a lot of fun. Recommended.
