Brilliant Return to form for Sonic the Hedgehog

Considering the time this game came out, It was refreshing to see Sonic go back to his roots to fix the troubled history of the franchise. The story isn't too complicated but it didn't need to be since this was a game celebrating the franchise's anniversary after all, and it didn't disappoint.

The early 2010s were an interesting time for SEGA since they were looking back in hindsight of some of the blunders of the previouse decade like Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic 06, SEGA took into account of fan's complaints and created Sonic Unleashed with the cutting edge Hedgehog Engine which broke the limits of what Sonic games could be. Following the awesome and imaginative Sonic Colours for the Wii, Generations is the second game that uses the hedgehog engine and improves on the gameplay even more.

With reimagined stages from past games, Sonic runs faster than ever before with stages so crisp and colourful, It's a joy to play every time. The return of classic sonic was also a great idea as every stage has a modern and classic mode to please all fans.

I loved this game and thought it was the perfect way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the iconic character. With the Sonic movie coming out now listening to the fan's voices about what they really want to see from the character, Sonic's future is looking bright. Maybe SEGA will make a 3rd game using the Hedgehog Engine, come on SEGA, I know you read these reviews

I'll Never Play Any Post-Heroes Sonic Games

Tails used to be to voiced by young boys. In fact, boys did his voice from Sonic Adventure to Sonic Heroes. In Sonic Heroes, Tails' actor, William Corkery, was only 8 or 9, and could have had a long career being that fox. But after being on the job for only two years, Corkery was dismissed. From there, old sluts took over doing the little fox's voice to this day, and it seemed that Sega would never use a boy again. As a Tails fan, I find this obscene and depressing, knowing that Sega is disregarding the fact that Tails is a boy fox. I can imagine a lot young lads who thought of doing Tails' words but have been denied because of Sega's absurdity.

Yes, this game is cute and colorful as any Sonic video game. But with the disgustingness Sega continues to do to no end, I'll never play Sonic Generations or any subsequent Sonic game for as long as I live. Thank you Sega for ruining Tails.

    A great game

Sonic Generations is a fantastic celebration of Sonic's history, blending classic and modern gameplay styles into a polished, enjoyable experience. Each level is carefully crafted, reimagining iconic stages from the series in stunning high-definition graphics that bring Sonic's world to life. Playing as both classic Sonic, with his traditional side-scrolling action, and modern Sonic, with his high-speed 3D mechanics, adds a great variety and ensures there's something for every fan to enjoy.

The visuals are vibrant and detailed, and the soundtrack is a highlight, featuring both remixes of classic Sonic tunes and new compositions that perfectly fit each level. The gameplay is smooth and responsive, capturing the speed and thrill of the Sonic experience while offering plenty of alternate paths and hidden secrets for players to discover.

However, the story is fairly minimal, missing some opportunities to deepen the unique dynamic between classic and modern Sonic. The character interactions are limited, with dialogue that could have added more personality or humor to the game. Additionally, the final boss is really dissapointing and nowhere near the level of quality of the other boss fight in the game, that are actually some of the best in the franchise.

Despite these minor flaws, Sonic Generations remains a joy to play. It's a must-play tribute to the franchise that excels in level design, visuals, and gameplay, making it one of the most memorable Sonic games for fans both new and old.

Worth of Sonic The Hedgehog's Celebration

Sonic Generations is an enjoyable game that has a nice way for the gamers to remember the franchise. The story does seem pretty short for a Sonic game that leads the game to just play one act per character of the two and move on to the next. But it's still a pretty fun game with solid graphics, skilled gameplay that pays homage to the games with both classic and modern Sonic, and a nice amount of charm from previous Sonic games. This is the game I believe Sonic fans will have a good time with. Not just because it recaps the other games, but they also will be playing a Sonic game both the old and the new way. I don't believe that this is the best Sonic game. But for what it is, it did a good job in celebrating the gaming franchise's history.

    Best Video Game EVER!!!!

Sonic Generations is a breath of fresh air. Not only the best Sonic game in my opinion but also the best video game in history. With the game being hard that's a good thing. It's a challenge and challenge equals good depending on how the challenge is done. If the challenge is in the game that's good, if the challenge is in the controls that's bad. But thankfully Sonic Generations challenge is in the game. True it can be hard trying to figure out where to go but that makes it more challenging and better, giving you more room to explore. And the story is great with the appearance of multiple time holes, giving us a classic and epic time travel game. Even the boss battles are great. Metal Sonic, Shadow the Hedgehog, Silver the Hedgehog, Awesome. But the fact of there are only being three boss battles I do hate. Anyway, Sonic Generations gives great gameplay, great graphics, great story, and great challenge. In quote of what the back cover says: Old meets New and worlds collide. Also a Blast to the Past. But what the hey, give this game a try and see what you have been missing. Thanks for reading!

    • Trivia
Shadow gives over the fourth Chaos Emerald in this game, a possible tribute to Shadow's memetic line, "Where's that damn fourth Chaos Emerald?" from his earlier spin off title, Shadow the Hedgehog (2005).
    • Goofs
In the Final Rush stage (The track for the Shadow boss) the moon is shown to be intact, during this point in Sonic Adventure 2 where Sonic and Shadow fight on Final Rush, (which is presumably the point of time this version of Final Rush was sucked into white space) the moon was blown in half.

Sonic the Hedgehog: [Sonic and Tails are in front of the partially colored Green Hill Zone] Is it me, or is that place we were just in awfully familiar?

Miles 'Tails' Prower: Not to me, but this place looked like something sucked all the life and color out of it. Totally strange.

Sonic the Hedgehog: No stranger than rescuing genies in magic books, or saving aliens in an interstellar amusement park. I'm more concerned about finding our friends.

      Miles 'Tails' Prower: Hey Sonic.

[points to Chemical Plant. Only its entrance is colored]

Miles 'Tails' Prower: I saw something over there in the distance... like buildings, but they look weird!

Sonic the Hedgehog: That might be a good place to check out! I'll be back soon!

[runs to the Chemical Plant Zone]

Sonic the Hedgehog: [as Tails watches Modern Sonic go, Classic Sonic arrives and sees Tails. He also looks forward, and waves at Tails]

Miles 'Tails' Prower: Wow! You weren't kidding when you said soon! I thought you already left!

[Classic Sonic nods and runs off, leaving Tails in a thinking position]

      Miles 'Tails' Prower: Hmm...
