During Paul Walkers brief absence from Fast & Furious, he starred in Into the Blue and it couldve been the actors replacement action-adventure franchise. After playing Brian OConner in The Fast and the Furious and its first sequel, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Walker was missing from the threequel, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. He only returned to the role of Brian in 2009s soft reboot, simply titled Fast & Furious, which moved away from the series focus on street racing and turned it into a more straightforward action movie franchise.
While Brian is undoubtedly Walkers most iconic character, he had a very respectable career outside the Fast & Furious franchise, too. He played a notorious bank robber in the heist movie Takers, he played a parole breaker in the car chase movie Vehicle 19, and he played a low-level mafioso in the neo-noir thriller Running Scared. It’s been a long day without you, my friend.
When Paul Walker passed away in 2013 due to a car accident, there was an outpouring of grief from fans of some of his most successful films (including entries in the popular Fast & Furious franchise) and those who simply lamented the passing of a young and talented actor in his prime.

Following his work on television commercials, Walker began to feature in small roles on television shows such as Highway to Heaven (1984 to 1986) before securing his first starring role in 1987 in the sitcom Throb as Jeremy,...

Paul Walker enjoyed a lengthy career in Hollywood that carried him through various roles in several unique movies before his unfortunate death in 2013 at just 40 years old. Fans likely remember him best as Brian O'Conner in the "Fast and Furious" franchise, but the talented and handsome actor also appeared in critical hits such as "Pleasantville," "Joy Ride," and Clint Eastwood's "Flags of Our Fathers," and served as executive producer on the films "Vehicle 19," "Hours," and "Pawn Shop Chronicles." He even enjoyed a guest spot on National Geographic's "Expedition Great White" in 2009.
In his youth, Walker popped up in a variety of high-profile TV shows, among them "Highway to Heaven," "Charles in Charge," "Who's the Boss," and "Touched by an Angel," before making the leap to schlocky B-movie horror films such as "Tammy and the Rex," opposite Denise Richards, in which his character's brain somehow lands inside a Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Daniel Baur’s K5 Film and K5 International are re-teaming with writer/director Mukunda Michael Dewil for the time-loop thriller “Open House.” The script was written and developed by Jon Davis and Sergio Pinheiro.
Dewil and Baur, who will produce the movie, already worked together on the action thriller “Vehicle 19,” starring the late Paul Walker, and the psychological thriller “The Immaculate Room,” starring Emile Hirsch, Kate Bosworth and Ashley Greene Khoury, which won best picture and best male actor at the Mammoth Film Festival recently.
Dewil’s most recent movie project is thriller “Collide,” starring Ryan Phillippe, Kat Graham and Jim Gaffigan, which recently wrapped production. Baur is an exec producer on the movie.
“Open House” centers on a couple out house hunting, who get stuck inside a show house with a strange realtor.
The production is in the process of casting, and is looking to announce the cast within the coming weeks.

Too long, too convoluted, too sentimental, and too ridiculous. Some will say those are its good points. Will they embrace the homoeroticism too? I’m “biast” (pro): nothing
I’m “biast” (con): mostly not a fan of the series

We are through the looking glass here, people. We have reached peak Hollywood. There is nothing negative anyone can say about Furious 7 (aka Fast & Furious 7) that cannot be taken as a positive. There is the “review-proof movie” that will gather a massive audience no matter what we egghead critics think of it, and then there’s the movie that is actually hardened against reviews like it’s coated in Teflon: scoffing just slides right off it.

Man is there a lot of new content on streaming services this week. There are literally hundreds of new titles available for your viewing pleasure, I couldn’t possibly have written about all of it because I would be writing into next week! Just know that there is something there for everyone whether your bag is comedy, drama, action or horror.
Most impressively this week, Netflix have stepped up to the plate and unleashed a full load of good stuff. They have also announced that they are going to add an audio commentary to their original show House of Cards, which can only be good news for those holding on to their physical media love and may mean that this most valuable of DVD extras is not going away but will instead be reborn in a different guise.

USA, 2013
One of the most impressive things about the career of the late Paul Walker is that once the Fast and Furious money started arriving in earnest after the fourth entry in that series, he was a strong supporter of independent film. In 2013, Walker executive-produced two films so small in scale that they would qualify as impossible to get made without him on board. The first, Vehicle 19, is an innovative little action picture that is well deserving of an iTines rental. The other, Walker’s final completed film Hours, works better as a character study than as a thriller, but deserves commendation for its ambition.
Hours opens with its worst scene, as Nolan Hayes (Walker) learns that his wife Abigail (Genesis Rodriguez) died while giving birth prematurely to their daughter during Hurricane Katrina. Walker’s “I’m in denial!” acting is terrible,...

Paul Walker movies: Few worthwhile efforts away from the ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise (photo: Paul Walker in ‘Hours’) (See previous post: “Paul Walker Dead: Fast and Furious Actor Killed in Fiery Car Crash.”) Aside from the Fast and Furious franchise, Paul Walker was featured in about 15 movies since the turn of the century; most of those were little-seen releases that did nothing to expand his following beyond fans of slick, high-speed shenanigans, e.g., John Glenn’s thriller and straight-to-dvd release The Lazarus Project (2008), co-starring Piper Perabo; Wayne Kramer’s box office bomb Running Scared, with Vera Farmiga; John Stockwell’s mix of deep-sea adventure and crime thriller Into the Blue, with Jessica Alba and Josh Brolin; and another straight-to-dvd effort, Mukunda Michael Dewil’s poorly received thriller Vehicle 19 (2013). Actor Paul Walker was killed this afternoon in a car accident in Santa Clarita, California. He was the passenger in a friend’s Porsche, which hit a light post and tree and then burst into flames, according to the L.A. County Police Department via the Associated Press/Los Angeles Times. Both victims were attending a charity event. Walker, who began in Hollywood at age 2 and just recently had turned 40, is best known for the recurring role of Brian O’Conner in the Fast and Furious movies, having appeared in all except the third movie, Tokyo Drift. The seventh movie is currently in post-production and set for release next summer, though it’s unknown if he might have been needed for additional work or reshoots. Another film, Hours, which debuted at the SXSW Film Festival this year, opens posthumously on December 13th. His other movies include Joy Ride, Varsity Blues, Running Scared...

Besides bringing a great selection of films to Afm including Supremacy, The Last 5 Years, Rob the Mob, Ron Howard's Made in America, and Swelter, The Exchange will also debut sales for their film Accident, an interesting 3D film and Midnight Rider: The Gregg Allman Story.
Accident
Directed by Dan Tondowski, Accident is a 3D thrill ride based on a true story and it includes incredible new SFX effects by Simon Hansen who previously worked on Chronicle, and will be produced by Ryan Haidarian (Vehicle 19) and Guillaume Benski (2009 Cannes Director's Fortnight's Navidad). Thomas Mann (Project X) and Ashley Hinshaw (Chronicle) will star in Accident. The other leads of the film will be announced shortly
The film follows four teenagers who "borrow" a car for one night of fun and thrills. But what starts as a wild joy ride turns into a nightmare. After a violent crash, they discover that being stuck at the bottom of a ravine in an overturned car is the least of their problems. The psychotic owner of the car that they stole has them in his cross-hairs and he will stop at nothing to get back the car and its valuable contents.
"We are extremely excited to be involved with Accident and this very talented team. The demand for high concept, 3D action thrillers that are unique and marketable is very high. We feel that this film could be a real breakout success for our buyers and we are excited to bring it to market," said O'Shea.
Midnight Rider: The Gregg Allman Story
Based on the New York Times bestselling autobiography of the iconic blues singer, the screenplay was written by Unclaimed Freight Production's Randall Miller and Jody Savin, and will be directed by Miller himself.
The film focuses on Allman's early struggles through the formation of The Allman Brothers Band and the group's ultimate explosion on the music scene. On the heels of successful music biopics such as Ray and Walk the Line comes Gregg Allman's Midnight Rider, a searing and revealing look inside the man who was at the forefront of Rock 'n' Roll and the lead singer of one of the biggest American bands of all time. The film captures two of the most defining chapters of Gregg's life, when The Allman Brothers Band was just getting under way and the earlier years when Gregg, after years of drugs and alcohol abuse, cleans himself up. Chronicling his life on the road and the pitfalls of super stardom, Midnight Rider ultimately creates an uplifting tale of a rock icon as he finds his way through the darkness into the light .
In order to infuse the film with authenticity, both Savin and Miller are working closely with Allman and his manager, Michael Lehman, both of whom will serve as executive producers. The film will include original Allman Brothers tracks as well as performances by the actor/musicians. Open Road will theatrically release the film in the Us.
"This powerful story of one man's journey through his brilliant and tumultuous rock 'n' roll career is extremely compelling and will be of keen interest to our international buyers," said O'Shea

First announced in the fall of 2011, the Paul Walker-starring thriller, “Hours,” is finally seeing a release this winter. Set in New Orleans directly in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the film’s first official trailer has arrived online. Helmed by “Final Destination 5” screenwriter Eric Heisserer in his directorial debut, the film focuses on Walker as a father fighting to keep his newborn daughter alive in a New Orleans hospital following the Katrina tragedy. The film seems to be set primarily in the hospital with some flashbacks to happier times in Walker’s life with his wife, played by Genesis Rodriguez. While we would have assumed a Walker-starring Katrina film would have been a strictly VOD affair, the film will actually see a wide theatrical release courtesy of Lionsgate. Walker’s success rate with outings away from the “The Fast and the Furious” franchise have been spotty at best...

Eric Heisserer’s “Hours”, starring Paul Walker and Genesis Rodriguez, previously played at the South By Southwest festival. It’s currently being scheduled to open theatrically in December, though how big that release will be is the real question. Hopefully it’ll be bigger than Walker’s last movie, “Vehicle 19″. Yeah, you didn’t see that movie either, huh? Well, it was mostly a VOD/DVD title, so don’t blame yourself if you didn’t know it existed. Here’s a new trailer for “Hours”. It’s similar to the SXSW one, with some new footage. Paul Walker is still battling Hurricane Katrina and looters. Before sunrise on August 29, 2005 Nolan (Paul Walker) arrives at a New Orleans hospital with his pregnant wife Abigail (Genesis Rodriguez) who has gone into early labor. What should be one of the happiest days of Nolan’s life quickly spirals out of control...

In another universe where other car-bound movies didn’t exist, Getaway might have possessed some novelty value. (“It’s Ethan Hawke driving a car for an hour and a half!”) But in our universe — the one where the guy-in-a-car action genre has already given us both masterpieces like Duel and The Driver and disposable knockoffs like Vehicle 19 — Getaway’s only claim to fame is that it may be the dumbest movie released this summer.A gearhead movie that is certain to offend most gearheads, Getaway doesn’t waste any time getting started, kicking off with former race-car driver Brent Magna (Hawke) being informed by a mysterious voice that his wife has been kidnapped and that he must perform a series of extra-legal tasks over the course of the night if he ever wants to see her alive again. Most of these tasks involve causing havoc on the streets and sidewalks of Sofia,...

Getaway sounds an awful lot like Vehicle 19. A protagonist gets into a vehicle and is forced, by an unseen antagonist, to drive through hoops as he races to prevent the death of a loved one. Only no one saw Vehicle 19, despite the promise of Fast & Furious star Paul Walker making grimacing faces behind the wheel of a car. Maybe audiences will prefer Ethan Hawke in a similarly sticky situation? The second Getaway trailer, posted to our YouTube page, finally focuses on the character of Hawke.s wife . the abduction victim who largely went unseen in the earlier video tease: But at least we got a lot of great Hawke reaction shots. They are worth their weight in gold. As the new trailer plays out, we learn that Hawke is ordered by the menacing voice on the other end of a cell phone to drive a unique automobile through...

"Ginger & Rosa"
What's It About? Sally Potter's ("Orlando") film follows two inseparable teenage girls, Ginger (Elle Fanning) and Rosa (Alice Englert) during the onset of the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1960s London. While Ginger's interests lie in protests and poetry, Rosa's are different, including Ginger's father (Alessandro Nivola).
Why We're In: While Fanning steals the film with a strong and powerful performance, "Ginger & Rosa" also has a largely talented cast including Annette Bening, Oliver Platt, Christina Hendricks, and Timothy Spall. Potter's film is both a moving, coming-of-age story as well as a detailed look at the politics and tension of the era.

On the heels of Paul Walker's success in the Fast And The Furious 6, the actor is feeling the need for speed once more with Vehicle 19. One month after hitting theaters, Vehicle 19 arrives on
Blu-Ray/DVD Combo Pack and DVD on Tuesday, July 23, 2013. Take a look at the trailer which has Walker driving on the wrong side of the car and road.
For Vehicle 19, Paul Walker finds himself in a foreign land being chased by the city's police force in a mini-van? Not exactly a fast and furious car, but the action in the trailer looks quite intense with more car crashes and chases than all the Fast & Furious movies combined. The action seems to take place entirely in the car. Hey, no pit stops?

Beth McCarthy-Miller ("Tammy," "Mail Order Groom") has come onboard to helm the comedy "Mean Moms" at New Line Cinema. The film is based on an advice book by Rosalind Wiseman, the same author behind the advice book that inspired Tina Fey's "Mean Girls".
The story follows a happily married mother of two who moves from small town America to the high-class suburbs and is faced with confronting the cutthroat world of competitive parenting.
Meanwhile, Mukunda Michael Dewill ("Vehicle 19") has come onboard to direct the thriller "Wet House" for Zero Gravity. Jack Reher penned the script.
The story follows a psychologist who becomes entangled with an apparent psychic living in a wet house (a place where alcoholics can drink themselves to death). Said patient proves an aid in solving a string of grizzly massacres.

Exclusive: Fresh off the release of his Paul Walker thriller Vehicle 19, South African writer-director Mukunda Michael Dewil has signed on to helm Wet House for Zero Gravity Entertainment. The elevated psychological thriller from scribe Jack Reher revolves around a psychologist who becomes entangled with the mysterious resident of a wet house, whose apparent psychic abilities help her aid the police in solving a string of grizzly, bath salt-fueled massacres. “I like the idea that everything is layered with this atmosphere of unnamed trepidation — nothing can be trusted at face value and that kind of foreboding really gives me a lot to work with when creating the world of this story,” Dewil said. Mark Holder and Christine Holder are producing and financing for Zero Gravity. The film will shoot this fall in South Africa as the first of three features Zero Gravity plans to shoot there.

Vehicle 19 is best when it's silent. Mukunda Michael Dewil's film has the makings of a taut little thriller, but the writer-director has the twin disadvantages of needing to include dialogue and to rely on the services of Paul Walker to embody his protagonist. The film follows American Michael Woods (Walker) as he arrives in Johannesburg, South Africa, to reunite with his ex-wife after being released from prison and jumping parole. But when he's accidentally given the keys to the wrong rental car, he finds himself amid a scandal which involves a sex-trafficking ring and implicates the chief of police, who suddenly wants him dead. As Michael drives through the urban streets, dodging police vehicles, the film largely confines its setting to his car, allowing the sinister world out...

★★☆☆☆ American actor Paul Walker has carved out a career that largely consists of driving cars and being both fast and furious. Playing firmly within type, Walker returns to screens this week in Mukunda Michael Dewil's Vehicle 19 (2013). Alongside an international cast including Naima McLean and Gys De Villiers, Walker plays Michael Woods, a reckless ex-con determined to change his life for the better in an attempt to save his relationship with an estranged girlfriend. Unfortunately, a mix-up at a Johannesburg car rental company leaves Michael stuck with the wrong car and distressed hostage Rachel (McLean) in the boot.
Michael quickly becomes embroiled in a hot pursuit when he is chased across Johannesburg by a dangerous, corrupt and powerful Detective Smith (De Villers). Unable to go to the police and having already broken parole, Michael not only has the hostage's life to save, but he must also save his own...

Django Unchained; Trouble With the Curve; Vehicle 19; A Dark Truth
Quentin Tarantino is a lot of things, but concise isn't one of them. Buried inside the sprawling 165 minutes of Django Unchained (2012, Sony, 18), there's a very decent two-hour retro-ploitation romp struggling to escape the indulgence of Hollywood's most under-edited auteur. On the plus side, we have knife-sharp central performances from Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz as (respectively) the recently freed titular slave and sharpshooting "dentist" Dr King Schultz, on a mission to rescue Django's wife from the slimy clutches of Leonardo DiCaprio's Calvin Candie.
The real jaw-dropper, however, is a brilliantly counterintuitive turn from Samuel L Jackson as Candie's insanely loyal house-servant, Stephen, a terrifying portrait of head-turned devotion that offers the film's most potentially radical element. It's here that whatever rude "politics" this possesses (including the usual fetishisation of the "N word") has gnarly bite. Elsewhere, it's more fan-boyish fare,...

It looks like Frank Miller's comic book Hard Boiled is finally going to make its way to the big screen! Way back in 2001, David Fincher was attached to direct an adaptation of comic with Nicolas Cage in the lead role, but it never happened. It sure would have been interesting to see Fincher's take on it. The last thing we heard about the project was that Miller was going to direct it himself after he was finished with Sin City 2, but it looks like that isn't happening either.
During a recent interview with Bleeding Cool, South African director Mukunda Michael Dewil revealed that he's going to adapt it. You might not be familiar with Dewil yet, but he directed the film Vehicle 19, which is the other car movie that Paul Walker stars in. It has yet to be released. But maybe news of another project bringing Miller's work to the big screen will help lessen the blow. Bleeding Cool recently sat down with Mukunda Michael Dewil, the director of Paul Walker's thriller Vehicle 19, and he revealed that he's currently working on an adaptation of Miller's 23-year-old comic miniseries Hard Boiled. A smooth landing for the Star Trek sequel plus ongoing love for Iron Man 3 means cinematic coffers should live long and prosper

When the Next Generation cycle of Star Trek movies sputtered to an end in 2003, Nemesis closed out its run with a mediocre £4.8m in the UK, down from previous episode Insurrection's £7.7m. Paramount and Jj Abrams craftily reinvented the brand with the 2009 reboot, debuting with a tasty £5.95m (including £872,000 in previews), on its way to a total of £21.4m. Now comes the sequel, Into Darkness. Given the expanded fanbase established by the 2009 film, and the addition of Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch as the Star Fleet's formidable new foe, it's no big surprise to see numbers rise. Newly released American convict Michael Woods (Paul Walker) breaks parole, flees to Johannesburg to make things up with his girlfriend, is given the key to the wrong car at the airport, discovers a gun under his seat and a kidnapped girl trussed in the boot, and finds himself caught up in a political conspiracy involving top South African lawmen and driving for his life. We've had thrillers in which the protagonist is confined to a lifeboat, a coffin, a metal cube and a phone box. The clever gimmick determinedly pursued in Vehicle 19 is that the camera never leaves the car, though Woods does so briefly. At first it's intriguing, then annoying, and finally it gives us the urge to get out and walk.

Star Trek Into Darkness (12A)
(Jj Abrams, 2013, Us) Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg. 132 mins
Those cinemagoers won over by Abrams's first Star Trek movie (even if they can barely remember it now) won't be disappointed with this finely tuned follow-up, which deftly balances action crises, sci-fi repartee and the ongoing Kirk/Spock bromance, but adds enough surprises to keep things interesting, largely by way of Cumberbatch's shifty supervillain.
Mud (12A)
(Jeff Nichols, 2012, Us) Matthew McConaughey, Tye Sheridan, Reese Witherspoon. 130 mins
Another distinctive, beguiling southern parable from Nichols, this time tracking the friendship between two boys and the mysterious fugitive they find down by the river. It's like a mix of Stand By Me, Night Of The Hunter and Terrence Malick.

And here I was all ready to praise poor cute dumb-as-a-post Paul Walker for at least trying, bless his little heart. Vehicle 19 is, like, foreign and everything... though there’s no subtitles, so it’s not scary foreign -- calm down. Still: it’s practically arthouse as these things go. And he’s not just the star but an executive producer, so you know he cares, even. Why wouldn’t he? This is important and all. Something something something sex trafficking; something something something chief of police. Probably everyone involved thinks this is a powerful and insightful story about corruption in South Africa ’n’ shit. Like meaningful and stuff. Ain’t gonna play Sun City, y’all. Peace out. Which is why I’m ROTFLing, I guess. Omg, is this supposed to be this funny? The list of Stupid Movie Shit Only Characters In Stupid Movies Do is a...

Today's bulletin is a little lackluster considering it consists of two G ratings for Pixar's Monsters University and its accompanying short film The Blue Umbrella as well as a PG-13 rating for the Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson comedy The Internship and an R rating for the Weinstein Co's Populaire. I've included the complete ratings update below. Argo: Extended Cut Rated R For language and some violent images. Note: Edited Version. Content Is Different From "R" Rated Version, Bulletin No. 2220 (4/25/12) The Blue Umbrella Rated G Release Date: June 21, 2013 (Accompanying Monsters University) Iceberg Slim: Portrait Of A Pimp Rated R For sexual content, some violent images and language. I know what you’re thinking: “Oh great, another movie in which Paul Walker drives fast in a car!” But wait, whilst Vehicle 19 does see everyone’s second-favourite Fast & Furious franchise star get behind the wheel of a car, this film is a whole different kettle of fish for Mr. Walker… Yet another in the line of “one man, one location” movies that have followed the successful release of Buried, the film takes it’s tale on to the roads of Johannesburg as Walker finds himself in the middle of mystery, knowing exactly as much as the audience does – that he’s definitely in the wrong rental car!

I'm So Excited (15)
(Pedro Almodóvar, 2012, Spa) Javier Cámara, Raúl Arévalo, Carlos Areces. 90 mins
Almodóvar responds to his country's economic woes with camp hysteria and Carry On humour. In many ways this airborne disaster farce – anarchic, absurdist, garishly stylish and gleefully debauched – is a return to the Spanish auteur's subversive roots. But there's a serious subtext to the silliness, and the metaphors are brought back down to earth for a satisfying landing.
The Eye Of The Storm (15)
(Fred Schepisi, 2011, Aus) Charlotte Rampling, Geoffrey Rush, Judy Davis. 119 mins
The imminent death of Rampling's matriarch throws an aristocratic family's dysfunction into relief in this Aussie drama, whose overstuffed story is redeemed by three watchable leads.
Gimme The Loot (15)
(Adam Leon, 2012, Us) Tashiana Washington,...
